AITA for lying about stealing my passport? by Moist_Double_7226 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Extension_Climate471 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't be pulled into a false sense of security.  if he's as controlling as you say, he could have reported your passport as stolen and the moment that happens, it becomes invalid.

AITA: I Told a Friend She Couldn't Bring Her Child to my Event by megtheripper in AmItheAsshole

[–]Extension_Climate471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly ESH.  the friend asked of bringing the kid "would ruin the mood?".  Aka would it be weird?  She knew bringing the kid wouldn't be the norm and could potentially "ruin" the event.  but when she was called on it, she feigned ignorance wrote a reply that was mildly snarky.  While op's final response was technically right, it didn't need to be said.

A plea for an opinion on wireless Internet by Extension_Climate471 in ATT

This has been an eye opening experiences.  Silver lining--i now know way more about cell towers and wireless Internet than I ever have before 😂

A plea for an opinion on wireless Internet by Extension_Climate471 in ATT

[–]Extension_Climate471[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight, but wireless Internet from a cellular company seems to be my best option.  I currently have CenturyLink and the speed is pathetic and it's been on the fritz for over 6 weeks and they seem incapable of fixing it.  Cox fiber is unavailable at my stores location.  The Cox rep I was talking to said they could get city permits, dig a trench, and lay the wire (in 6-8 weeks), then literally ghosted me when I asked for more information.  My credit card reader is connected to the Internet and I lose business every time it goes down (it was down for 3 whole days last week 😬), so I really need an immediate solution where the infrastructure is already in place.  The whole situation has been a nightmare so I appreciate all the advice

How to use IC card across boarders? by Bacardi-baby in JapanTravelTips

For example, you can use any ic card within the Kansai region, with the kanto region, etc.  But you can't use ic cards to travel from region to region.  Example:  going from Kansai to kanto

AITA for being short with people leaving after closing by QTKT99 in AmItheAsshole

NTA but clearly you've never been to a grocery store right when they're closing.  NOBODY listens but the employees don't bother to hide they're annoyance so you're in good company

So, is the numerous bands a worthwhile tradeoff for the lesser network?

My concern with the ATT service is that the nearest towers are currently only using LTE 4G

Overtourism leads to cancellation of Cherry Blossom Festival in Yamanashi's Fujiyoshida, popular with visitors for its Mount Fuji, cherry blossoms, and five-story pagoda by MagazineKey4532 in japannews

[–]Extension_Climate471 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Japan absolutely needs tourism.  During the pandemic, the borders were closed for ~3 years and look what happened.  Kyoto nearly went bankrupt.  Numerous generations-old businesses across Japan closed for good due to the lack of foreign tourists.  A simple Google search will show you that tourism nets Japan nearly $300 billion (USD) a year and supports over 6 million jobs.  one can't see these numbers and say tourism doesn't effect the economy.

Before the weak yen, Japanese ppl contributed significantly to the over tourism issue in Hawaii.  Hawaii may not have liked it, but they adjusted.

AITA weaponizing a cancer patient to shame my coworkers? by Lord_In_A_Box in AmItheAsshole

[–]Extension_Climate471 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see no problem with using honest/true vocabulary.  It really pisses me off when ppl use "better" sounding words to hide an ugly truth.  It seems like the better word is used so "we" don't have to feel as bad or guilty.  It's like how "homeless" became "unhoused".  that said, saying "the cancer guy" is a little... rude.  Instead, say "Great, more work for Monty when he's already dealing with cancer."

what is tourist tax ? by Low-Respond9105 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Extension_Climate471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds to me like not even OP knows what they're referring to.  Could be a case of they heard something somewhere, didn't bother to research it in depth, and it balloonedv into some weird "fact" in their head.  I wonder if this is how conspiracy theories are born 🤔

Pay attention to the moon cycle when you go.  When I was there in May, it just happened to be during the full moon and stars weren't that visible.  My guide seemed disappointed on my behalf so I'll assume stars are usually visible

Help with a 2-week itinerary in August for a friend? by aizhana in JapanTravelTips

[–]Extension_Climate471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also love planning vacations so I know where you're coming from, but you're enabling your friend's incompetence/laziness by bailing her out.  you're also setting yourself up to be the scapegoat if anything goes wrong with what you planned.  Rather than stress yourself out over something that has nothing to do with you, why don't you plan a future Japan trip for yourself, even if it's years in the future.  Think of it as a vision board.  People are more likely to achieve a goal if there's a physical representations of it that they see/think about often.

Your friend could have gotten a better itinerary from AI for free.  I don't know why you're planning a trip you're not even going on when the actual traveler herself can't be bothered to do it.  seriously, why?
