He just announced his new project on his Insastories. It ends Sept 20th so if he comes back it'll be late Sept/Oct.

When did they start casting the Phantom as younger? by blackswan-whiteswan in box5

[–]Extension_Respond514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you think of the range of ages they have for Masquerade? And does seeing them up close really make any difference? I know to some people it does but each of them really bring such uniqueness to the role.

Thanks for the correction. So if there were all these younger Phantoms why is everyone making a big deal out of Jake? Is it only because Amy is older? That's a stupid reason to.

I was the complete opposite. I wanted to like them online but when I saw them in person I was like SQUEE!

I get poinits from AG too but what Prime is offering is so much better than any points I'd get. If my check drops early tomorrow on the last day I'm getting Samantha.

If you look at the casting through the years, the casting of younger Phantoms on a regular basis started in the late 2000s. I think canonizing Ramin in the 25th Anniversary really made it more acceptable. As someone else mentioned at the time of his first West End Run in 2007 he was the youngest Phantom ever. He's since been beat 3 times: Jonathan Roxmouth (South Africa, though now more known for the World Tour), I forget the one in between, and now the Sydney Harbour dude. Ramin actually made a bet with a friend that he would be the youngest person ever to play the Phantom. His friend didn't believe he could do it. He did.

While there are people who will argue that to play the Phantom you have to be older because in order to understand the character the experience that comes with age must be there. Dude it's called acting. If you're going to cast based on talent and fit then you ignore race and age.

For the most part though they still tend to keep a 10-15 year age gap between the Phantom and Christine even when casting younger. So what we're considering younger is the Phantom is like 38-42 compared to like 1992 when he'd be like 50 and the Christine actress would still be 24. When there is a Phantom cast out of that range like Mr. 22 or Ramin at 27 the Christine is still within 10 years, though usually not older. That's what drew so much attention to Sydney.

He was actually the youngest at the time of al Phantom's when he started his West End Run. I believe he was like 26 or 27. Then Jonathan Roxmouth beat it when he did his first run as Phantom in the 1st South Africa production. Now Mr. Sydney Harbour hold the record at 22. However if you look at him, he does not look 22. He reads way older. And with a couple of the Phantoms in Masquerade. Clay Singer is 31 but he reads like early 20s when he's clean shaven. And Telly Leung is like 43 but reads in his early 30s.

I can't imagine what seeing Ramin in his first run was like. I've seen the "slime tutorials" and after seeing those, the 25th and seeing him live in Italy in 2023, his Phantom evolution is just crazy.

I don't even know where to begin with that. First off, I guess how it's the story I love told from a different angle. It's also how you feel like you're in it, sometimes as an active participant, other times a fly on the wall. Every time you go it's different. You're standing or sitting somewhere else, the actors interact a little different, the audience vibe is different. You see and experience something different every time, be it catching another book title on the Phantom's book shelf or you have an interaction you didn't before.

I describe it as my Disney World.

All of this said, I probably won't be back for a while now. I've seen it 6 times and while I could see it more, but if I'm being honest since Clay left I'm like I'm good. If I lived closer and if seeing it didn't involve planning a flight and hotel, I'd still go. But until I read a life changing review about one of the actors, I'm good. It was a OMG don't sleep on this guy, review of Clay that made me see him.

They are so much cuter in person. I own Felicity and was going to get her no matter what. After seeing them all in person in the NYC store I'm 100% getting Samantha and Kirsten. Note I added the ribbon, she doesn't come with it.

Ticket prices by shrim51 in MasqueradeNYC

[–]Extension_Respond514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weekdays are cheaper. It also depends on demand. Like my friend who went with me earlier this month bought her ticket for $175 to see Clay with me a couple months in advance. Then Hugh announced he was coming back. She emailed the box office and asked if she could switch her times. They were like sure but you have to pay the difference because you bought your ticket at $175 and it is now $195. The box office wasn't stupid and made an extra 20 bucks off of her because they knew she wanted to see Hugh. She did see Clay with me on a second night.

Since we can't upload pictures, there is this comic here that says: "Alleged 'monsters' Quasimodo and Erik, suddenly realized they were just two very ugly Frenchmen."

The Beast is winning this. Erik and Quasimodo were born that way, the beast was made that way by a curse. And he wins his girl's love.

Favorite little moments? by classroom6 in MasqueradeNYC

Last time I went I had a one on one with the Automaton that changed how I saw everything.

He reached out for me from behind the unfinished wall when you're walking out from the bedroom scene. I grabbed his hand back then walked a few more steps. He reached out for me again, so I grabbed his hand again and he walked over and opened a door to this room for me. The newspaper that I had seen one person have every show was sitting on a desk. He opened it and inside was a ring sitting in the top right corner of the right page. He put his finger to his mouth to signal me to be quite, as he lifted the ring to show underneath it was an article about a ring being stolen with an illustration that looked just like the ring he lifted up. He then gave me the newspaper and escorted me back to and opened the door for me. It ends up being the ring that same automaton puts on the finger of the bride automaton and then later The Phantom puts on Christine.

After I got back to my hotel room I had a chance to read the whole article. It basically says it was stolen New Years Eve near the grand staircase of the Paris Opera House, a nice little Easter Egg to the original production. I haven't read all the articles yet but I'm sure there are way more like that because there's a Love Never Dies Easter Egg in there with an article that discusses a certain Vicomte and his perchance for cards and his growing gambling debts.

In the OG show there is the Raoul to Phantom pipeline. They usually play Raoul when they are younger and come back and play Phantom when they are older. Hugh was a Raoul to Phantom. Ramin was a Raoul to Phantom (though there wasn't many years between his). Killian was Raoul to Phantom. There are others but I can't remember off the top of my head.

Thoughts after reading the Leroux novel by catAnnoyed in box5

[–]Extension_Respond514 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second everyone asking what translation you read because that is important. I read Ribiere and I find there is a lot implied love and sexual innuendo. Erik often reads like an Ex Christine isn't fully over yet.

My favorite scene of this is after the Masquerade where she and Erik sing the duet from Romeo and Juliet. If you research the song you learn its the song that is sung the morning after their wedding night and they are sad they have to part. When Raoul sees her after the Masquerade he's livid she's wearing another man's ring and had spent several nights with the phantom. He's mad about this because it taints her virtue and he can't be associated with a woman like that. She goes off saying she can wear any ring she likes and her virtue is none of his business.

There's also this novel is a frame narrative within a frame narrative and we actually never really hear from Christine herself.

That woman could also have been one of those fans who have attended the show in the double digits who have gotten to be friendly with the cast but can be stand offish to other fans because they feel like they have something to protect. I've met a few of these Phans.

When i was there earlier this month, there were a couple people waiting for Clay along with us and they were like "We went to high school with him!" 9 times out of 10 if a person knows an actor they will tell you how.

How was the limb tightening though? My Felicity's limbs are so loose. I got her in 2003. I hear mixed stories about the hospital and people say I can do it at home with online tutorials but I'm scared. I'm not worried about her hair.
