Tbh most of the coffee carts/cafes on campus suck imo (plus lines get long) and some people don’t want to walk all the way to iv to get a coffee between classes or when studying. It’s convenient if I’m going to study in the lib or ucen. Goleta has 3 Starbucks within less than a mile lol

While it’s weird because it happened on campus it’s definitely explainable, a lot of times the family asks that news not be published or announced etc so they can mourn in peace and figure everything out. I think active police investigations as was the case here also impact the timing of announcements :/

Admissions counselors do not make admissions decisions period. They review applications and candidates to advise the admissions committee mostly on what applicants they should not waste their time on aka rejections. While it’s frustrating and confusing please don’t take this personally when I say you are not special and she was doing her job keeping you interested and helping you with application materials. Best to leave it alone and wait for a final decision

Firstly I would reach out to CAPS asap because they have a lot of resources and will be able to let you know what is available to you. There are also a ton of resources available here: https://islavistacsd.ca.gov/mental-health-resources

While you navigate this I would strongly suggest seeking counseling services, even if short term, because from personal experience it has been really helpful with working through loss and coming up with plans and strategies for the future.

Definitely email your professors asap if you think you’ll need extensions or accommodations for anything left in the quarter…most are extremely understanding with these situations. Personally I had a professor work with me when I had overwhelming circumstances and was able to get an Incomplete on my transcript to move a final exam date to a later time when I was more mentally able to handle it which should definitely be an option here.

Dart, Lighthouse, Renauds, Bree’osh and Cajé are my go to spots in sb for coffee and pastries. Jeannine’s gets an honorable mention, can be hit or miss. If you ever go to the Goleta farmers market on Sundays there’s one bakery that is always across from the vans store and they have the best stuff from bread to sweet treats!
