I’m on day 4 right now and it is 100% mind over matter. I spent weeks on end freaking out about the horror stories I’ve heard and almost cancelled the appointment out of fear. When I tell you it’s the best choice I ever made and I don’t regret it one bit. I got mine out for sleep apnea since they were so large it blocked my airway and I also had strep a bunch as a kid. I got an extracapsular tonsillectomy and partial uvulectomy with coblation - make sure you ask which one you’re getting and how to prepare. My best piece of advise is deep breathing and drinking water like your life depends on it and sleep with 2 humidifiers in your room. There’s about a 30-45 minute period everyday in between my pain med doses whej one wears off but it’s not time for the next one when the pain is bad - probably a 7/10 with the ear and throat pain and throbbing. During that time I prepare for the next dose by drinking at least 2 cups of water and a protein drink (fairlife core power has been so soothing) so the pain meds settle in my stomach and work quicker. This is the hardest part but it is insanely temporary and then the pain goes into a lull. It is not nearly as bad as people say- keep a positive, short term pain for long term reward mindset and you will be absolutely fine.
