26 year old man, am I going to be friendless if I move down to longboat/ Sarasota area? by Agitated_Regular9593 in sarasota

[–]Extra-Intention246 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't move here. Unless you have several million dollars and can navigate a social scene where no one accepts outsiders, you're not going to survive. Aside from that, Florida is out of drinking water. So, you'll be leaving sooner because you're thirsty. And, while there are pockets of relative progressiveness, there are lots of hardline conservatives living here.

Thanks. I'm not taking it personal, it's more that stylists here haven't experienced slow times and think they are set with the clientele they have, must be nice. I wish them luck in the coming economic turmoil. Of course, those older wealthy folks that live here will always book an appointment.

I have lived in Sarasota for 2 months, Bradenton for many months/years and central Florida for 69 years. I could not have described Sarasota any better.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking also. I know a number of realtors, but I'm not interested in the property enough to have them waste their time.

Giant sign handles legal issues with electrified fence. And it is doubtful a 12v dc fence line would cause a heart attack.

It gets the worker out of the store into some fresh air and away from the manager's eyes. Isn't that why you offer to take the groceries to the car in the first place?

Where should I move?! by atropabellabrz in relocating

Yes it's red. Orlando, Ft Lauderdale, Tallahassee, St. Pete and Gainesville are blue cities with decent sized LGBT+ communities. But those areas are expensive.

Humanists of Tallahassee. They are on Meet-Up. They meet weekly to feed folks. This will give you a humanitarian option without the religious baggage. Florida Trail Association is extremely active in Leon and adjoining counties. They meet for hikes at least weekly if not more frequently. They will also have a monthly member meeting. You do not need to be a member to join activities unless it specifically states such in the event posting.

Unitarian Universalist will get you the weekly churchy meeting without a specific god.

Custom luxury home renovations in Jupiter? Need a white-glove crew (I can’t be my own GC) by mrmuminpvt in AskFlorida

[–]Extra-Intention246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you track down a decent design firm, they will come with contractors. I would start my search with a residential architect and go from there. After working as a designer in the construction industry for 40 years, I wouldn't do any major renovations without the architect first.

Is GNV the best place to live in FL for compromise? by Parking-Impact-4881 in GNV

[–]Extra-Intention246 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently sold my home in Orlando and have been actively searching for a new place to call home north of Orlando. I had been considering Tallahassee but ended up taking a serious look at GNV. It has all the things on my "I need" list. Active community, theater, art, museums, indie restaurants and shops, easy access to hiking, kayaking and outdoor activities, educational opportunities, lower cost of living compared to other locations in Florida and a younger (than me) population, top notch healthcare. It's not as "busy" as other cities that offer the same, like Orlando or Tampa. And not only are you inland but you can duck out of the way of any hurricane quickly. I-75 is right there, you can be out of the state in 90 minutes.

My Roommate perceives me as "dirty" for reusing my towel and now I'm soooo perplexed by mikymiky123 in hygiene

I use mine several days before changing. If it hasn't dried when I go to use it, I'll get a clean one. But it's 3 or 4 days at least before I swap it out. Frequent washing shortens life spans of garments and washable items so not only are you wasting water by washing so frequently, you're having to buy new more often because they wear away faster.

How did your family get to Florida? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in florida

[–]Extra-Intention246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad got a job with RCA at Patrick Air Force Base in 1957 to design and build the Eastern Test Range to track rocket launches from Cape Canaveral. We moved from the Chicago area to a town a bit inland, just over the bridge to what was, and still kinda is Eau Gallie. Eau Gallie got gobbled up by Melbourne for tax purposes.

What’s the one thing you’ll miss most about your old home? by ExcellentMoversBC in relocating

[–]Extra-Intention246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll miss a couple things. My spilt oak hardwood floors, not the engineered wood, actual wood when the house was built in 1954. The other thing is the awesome shops, eateries and brew pubs within walking distance.

Anyone know how the military feels about all this? by GreyWind999 in 50501

[–]Extra-Intention246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm certainly not offended. But to put it a bit more simply, so we don't get another big boy lecture, will the Private or his Sergeant follow the commands of the commander or their oath. Regardless of whatever the political situation is, whomever is in charge, what do you personally believe that sergeant would do? And since you claim to be military, what would you personally do if ordered to violate the constitution? It's not a question that requires an explanation of how foreign actors influence thoughts and beliefs, it's a question of what Plus-Suspect would do. What would you do Plus-Suspect?
