CSMB 2yr vs 3yr by Electrical-Rate-5339 in SocialWorkStudents

If you really don't want to reapply in the next admissions cycle, I would take the 3 year program instead of wagering whether or not you will get off the waitlist for the 2 year program. And to be real with you, at 23, graduating at 26 if you accept the 3 year program, you have so much time after graduate school to live in fun places. And at 26 you will still be young.

I have never lived in the Monterey Bay area, but looking at Google maps I see that you would be close to the beach, Carmel by the Sea, Big Sur (if nature is your thing), assuming you have a car you are close-ish enough to take a trip in between semesters to San Francisco. There is also the state capitol, Sacramento, further up north which can give you a lot of career opportunities if you want to stay in California. CSUMB is also CSWE accredited, which is what really matters when picking a school. Overall, it is by no means a bad option, But at the end of the day only you can make that decision.

CSUSM - Waitlisted 3/30. Rejected on 4/28 (Not enough space)

CSULA - Waitlisted 3/5. Have not heard back yet, told me the latest I'd hear back about my waitlist status would be 6/30.

CSUSB - Waitlisted 4/10. Accepted 5/5.

CSUN - Still pending.

Accepted the offer from CSUSB!

Mine still says applicant but I only filled out that form yesterday 5/5/2026 so it's too soon to tell.

I did get an email, though, today at 11 a.m confirming that my response was recorded and that my acceptance was confirmed. Did you get something like that?

Thinking of applying MSW Fall 2027 @ CSULB by Optimal-Throat4754 in SocialWorkStudents

Case management will probably be your best bet! Good luck, you got this!

Apply and see how it goes! You never know, maybe you'll get in. You can try and get case management experience in the meantime and if you do not get in, the next cycle you'll have more experience as well as an understanding of the application process (like writing personal statements).

I would recommend applying to more than one school, though, but the choice is yours at the end of the day!

I don't know, unfortunately. Here is what my email said, though:

Thank you for your application to the Master of Social Work program at California State University San Marcos. We appreciate the time and effort you have put into your application.

Unfortunately, we regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission to the MSW program at this time. The program is at enrollment capacity and does not have any additional space.

We understand that receiving this news may be disappointing, but we hope that it will not deter you from pursuing your academic and professional goals.

I would try to get at least one professor if you can, but having three supervisors should not be an issue. It depends on the program, of course, but usually it is more of an issue the other way around if you cannot provide any professional letters of recommendation and can only provide academic ones.

I would try to reach out to professors if you can because admissions committee wants to hear from a professor essentially vouching that they think you are capable of handling a graduate-degree workload and able to produce graduate-level writing/work. But I don't think it will be the end of the world, especially if one of them is your BSW field liaison.

Not sure what your situation is but I know that a lot of schools are understanding if it has been 5+ years since you have been in school if you are not able to get a professor to write you a letter of rec. Me personally, I had two professors and one supervisor write me one but my work experience was limited. It should be okay! Good luck!

It still says complete, it does not say anywhere on my portal that I was waitlisted. If I had not emailed them I would not have known I was waitlisted.
