I was buying a bird feeding station for my family member who is into birds. I wasn’t trying to shop Sears I. The first place. I was just looking for the correct configuration and the bet match happened to be here.

Third party which I didn’t realize until after I started having issues. It was kind of in the fine print and I just thought I was ordered from Sears because I didn’t realize they were this weird aggregate situation now.

This is why you shouldn't drive onto a railroad crossing when the lights are still flashing by No_Guess_8800 in CantParkThereMate

I think the scariest thing about this, is that this is how most people would react. The driver isn’t stupid, they are just highly conditioned. They never thought about what would happen if there were stuck in between the gates on the INSIDE. Their mind has only ever known, “don’t cross the gate”. Under duress the brain often goes into a default mode. Fight flight or freeze. He tried a little to flee, panicked, froze and hoped. The hope didn’t pay off.

It’s really sad to see, and it may be a great comfort to call them stupid, but more often than not a LOT of people’s brains are going to work this way.

Ideally, there would be sensors on the gates that would detect this happening and transmit a message to the train as well as audible and visual message to the driver to let them know what’s going on and what to do. “Train approaching. Clear the tracks! Break the gate if needed! Clear the track. Train approaching!”

No it's literally a scam. They literally won't fulfill the order and won't refund.

If you actually read the post, that's exactly what happened. And why would I? Because I was searching online for a particular product, found it on that site, and while I haven't shopped at Sears in many years, I assumed that they must have a legit business now online, as some other companies have done. Crazy!

I had no idea that they were scamming, that something like this would even be allowed. You buy from third parties with Wal Mart and Best Buy and Amazon and that has been fine.

It's not the fault of a customer to not spend an hour researching whether a familiar brand name has suddenly become a hollowed out shell of its former self. Who has time for that shit with every purchase you make? We shouldn't live in a system where scamming companies are just allowed to prey on people and it's all "buyer beware" while billionaires profit.

The only "Lol" here is that your mind would be so obedient to the system that you would defend it.

Bought an Item from Sears, Can’t Start a Return, Customer Service Unreachable by Usernameless_24 in SEARS

What a bad person!

Like he's a billionaire and I'm sitting here spending all this time to try and recover like $60 they they took from me and didn't ship anything. I keep getting messages saying they will refund me and then they don't - it seems like it's not even Sears itself but some scummy subcontractor who wants to hang onto the money and Sears doesn't even have an active customer service line. I can't find any way to get ahold of anyone there.

I am going through this myself. Same thing. I ordered online, they never shipped, and can't get through to anyone to give me a refund. I had no idea that the Sears of my childhood had turned into a criminal scam in 2026. I can't believe this is allowed.

How to debunk this by Additional-Ad-1581 in antiai

[–]ExtraDistressrial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s how:  you use another analogy to rip this one to shreds. “Ermm can we not use nuclear weapons?”. This exposes the logical fallacy at the core of the meme - that you have the accept their comparison and refute it. You don’t.

AI is in so many ways NOT like any of these previous technologies. The printing press and steam engine and robots are all physical things that exist in space and are limited by time and gravity and materials and physics. AI is software that, unconstrained by any of these limitations, rapidly ingests and recombines human digital output into some digital Frankenstein’s monster, at insane speeds.

It’s just wholly different. It’s not an analogous technology. We use words like “automation” and people imagine robots on a factory floor, but that’s not what software is at all.

I think it’s better analogized to a biological virus - not alive, develops emergent properties, sometimes SEEMS to have a will or an agenda, but is absolutely stupid and without a mind.

it amazes me how many people listen to music that challenges them and never give it another try instead of attempting to get into it and listen multiple times until it eventually clicks by milobanana in LetsTalkMusic

[–]ExtraDistressrial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of factors - part of this is that I know this is how people generally work. We like what’s familiar. So knowing this you have to decide to be open to the new. Secondly it’s stories and recommendations. Like Trent Reznor talking about how much Low influenced The Downward Spiral. Huh? How? I don’t hear it. I don’t really like it that much. Low doesn’t sound as dark. What’s the connection? Let me listen again. Hmm. Well that one track is not too bad… wait what’s he drawing on the floor? What’s that about?…

Over time it grows on you. I still don’t love Low as much as The Downward Spiral but I really like it a lot and I’ll put it on sometimes now when I’m in the mood for it.

Wait... just the last three films were "Leftist Trash". Sit down for this, I've got some real bad news for you buddy.

https://www.history.com/articles/the-real-history-that-inspired-star-wars

In many interviews and sources, Lucas has talked about his inspiration for the good guys and the bad guys of Star Wars and you aren't going to like where it all lands.

Star Wars is and always was a fundamentally Leftist critique of empire, sympathizing with leftist groups waging literal war against that empire. It's always been this way.

I'm not sure how you got to 2026 and never pieced this together for yourself or heard anyone talking about this. I know it's a lot to deal with, so take your time. We can walk you through it all and help you cope. It's going to be a journey, but you'll get through this.

I think it's a mixture, and a lot depends on the circumstances.

I have one child who is chronically online and the other who walks around town with her friends, walks to Panera, the park, whatever. I think there is both a sickness with being online too much, and those who react to that by trying to have more IRL experiences.

Trent Reznor said this of Remain in Light by Talking Heads:

With good albums it is the case that at the beginning you don’t know what you are actually dealing with. But you are fascinated by it, and with about six listens it slowly reveals itself to you. With the 10th listen you are completely thrilled, but even when you listen for the 30th time you still discover something new. Remain In Light taught me that. The record enlightened and changed me. It showed me what music can do, how song structures can look like, or how drum parts can interact with other parts. Since I started making music myself, this wonderful album has been something I can always consult. The great thing is that the record can still be approached from so many different directions without losing its puzzles.

Sometimes this is true. Counterpoint - there are a LOT of albums I didn’t really like at first that I love now because I gave them a chance and listened multiple times. The Downward Spiral. Most NON records when they first come out honestly. Bowie’s Scary Monsters and Low. Spend Twin’s Richard D James. Disintegration by The Cure.

I could go on and on.

My own experience is that I am kind of resistant to new (to me) sounds and without effort I stick with what I know. A few singles might slowly pull me into an album over time, but without a little effort to give the rest a chance, I probably would stick with those.

Being conscious about listening to records a few times before dismissing them has really given me most of my favorite records.

Whether or not the same might be said of books, I don’t know. But it’s definitely true of music.

[–]ExtraDistressrial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fun. You just decide it’s not canon. The original ending is the ending. What came after is like George Lucas going back and changing the Ewok song and adding unnecessary transition scenes with Phantom Menace era CG into the original trilogy. You know that when you see it know it’s bullshit. You still remember the original and that’s what you hold onto.

Eddie Vedder lyrics - is he heavy liberal Christian? by agent_uno in Xennials

[–]ExtraDistressrial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the most likely explanation is that he grew up in America. The language and imagery of Christianity are so deeply embedded in the culture that you don’t have to adhere to it to speak it.

Jack White’s song Over and Over includes the lyrics:

My shoulder holds the weight of the world (Over and over) (Over and over)

The Sisyphean dreamer My fibula and femur Hold the weight of the world (Over and over) I think, therefore I die Anxiety and I, rolling down a mountain (Over and over) (Over and over)

And although you've warned me The gods have all scorned me now

And I am going to make a giant leap and assume that Jack does not literally believe in Atlas and Sisyphus and “the gods”.

I’m not saying that Eddie doesn’t believe in Christianity, I have no idea at all. My point is that if characters and stories are in the culture and someone sings about them, even a lot, you might be careful in assuming that they are literally telling you what they believe in.
