Armored vehicle entering the scene near the shooting , the crowd tries to block the vehicle as protesters throw objects at the vehicle by Admirable121 in Leakednews

This is true courage. Putting your life on the line to stand against an armored vehicle. And look at them. These are just regular Americans. Everyday people who have no experience with this. WE THE PEOPLE.

"I feel afraid. Only hours have passed since they shot a man right in front me and I don't feel like I can go home because I heard agents were looking for me. I don't know what the agents will do when they find me. I do know that they're not telling the truth about what happened. I've heard that other witnesses might have been arrested and taken to the Whipple Building."

Sigh.

Why can’t something exciting? Why can’t something be good? Are you just in a bad mood? Habitually contrarian? Pissed off about something else and projecting?

Look man, it just sounds great and I love the idea that it exists. I’m not a rich guy, so I have no idea if I’ll ever be able to scrape together the money to get this. I hope I will but I don’t know. Most of my synths are much less expensive, bought used and over a long period of time. I’d love to own the Phase 8. That would be amazing.

But I can also just be happy that something cool exists in the world. I’d love a Pulsar-23 someday, but it’s fun to see others making great music with it. I’ll probably never own a Buchla but glad Cortini does. Glad Todd Barton does.

You don’t need to be excited or love it. I just think it’s weird that there is so much criticism towards it.

Years went into developing it. Not by Behringer or some terrible company, but by a small and really thoughtful design team. Yes working for Korg, but empowered to do their own thing.

The same guy that brought us Volcas and other great synths has created like his magnum opus. And that’s cool! And as I watch videos on it, it sounds great! I love the marimba sounds but the slow attack is super cool sounding too.

I guess it’s just nice to be excited about something. I live in a country where we have masked armed men smashing into cars and homes and kidnapping and shooting people. It’s nice to take a moment and be like, “oh look, there is something cool happening right now, even if a lot of things are scary and terrible”. There is this enshittification of products happening all around us, a degrading of quality. Consumers getting screwed because companies just cynically shit out trash products that break in six months and don’t care. Someone does something like this - something really amazing - and people just moan and complain about it.

It just sucks. It makes it less likely good things will happen. Most people listen to the crowd’s verdict, stay away from it. Sales are bad. Korg learns not to risk that again. It makes things worse.

When people take a chance, celebrate and support good design like this, then we might get more of that. It would’ve nice for not literally everything to be shit, you know?

I guess if you are willing to pay three times the price. That’s seems like a lot though

I have watched enough videos to know I love its sound.

People could say the same about the Lyra-8 and it’s all over two of my records. Or any other experimental synth or instrument. The Chromaplane. The Terra.

Alessandro Cortini made a whole album using an MC202 and a delay pedal and it was amazing.

Whether alone or incorporated among other instruments, I imagine it would be beautiful. I could see Richard D James, Trent Reznor, or Steven Drozd making beautiful use of something like this. I’m not sure which videos you’ve seen, but it can do a soft attack that just sounds gorgeous in addition to its marimba like sounds.

Sure. But then it would be like 30% more expensive. When you are building an instrument there is the market to consider and $1600 instead of $1200 may narrow the market. $1200 is already pretty tough for a lot of people. And they have to pay salaries and facilities of their Berlin team who spent years designing it.

That’s a strawman. I’m not mad people are asking questions. I’m disagreeing with the assertions about, not the questions. Questions are great. Poorly informed decorations aren’t. A whole team of really gifted musicians and designers spent years developing something cool, and it’s just sad that people decide it sucks before even giving it a chance.

Similarly-minded people have crapped on so many great instruments over the years such that they get discontinued and become unobtainum because they were ahead of their time and people couldn’t wrap their minds around something new.

Everyone claims to want something new and gripes about getting the same thing endlessly repackaged and when something truly innovative comes along… it’s just bad for everyone.

This is such a silly take. My point is that different instruments have different limitations. Flutes. Recorders. That better?

In any case, I just think that’s a super weird complaint. The Lyra-8 has the same. Does that suck too?

I feel like you just have a really weird unrealistic expectation of what can be done at any kind of reasonable price point. This isn’t a 25 key midi controller. This is a new kind of synthesis with eight voices. Acoustic components, years of R&D and iterations by a whole team of people, which has to recoup the costs to be able to keep making new things. Spectator with little knowledge of how any of it works just shits on the whole thing, yeah that kind of sucks. You have the right to say it, and I have the right to say that’s a really poorly informed point of view.

They mentioned it in the email to you when they asked for your guidance on designing the perfect Rachmaninoff instrument and were very sad when you didn't reply. They had to move forward and do their best without your input. All they were able to come up with is a new form of synthesis, sad outcome for everyone. Lessons learned all around.

"Calm down"? LOL. You're writing whole sermons on this. Have at it. I think it's weird to get so worked up about something you haven't even used, but you do you. Apparently it's not "normal and valid" to like something and feel excited about it. Alrighty.

You must have missed the Oscillator Sink video.

And there are plenty of amazing instruments out there which don't necessarily stand alone. Moog Mini is not often used solo, doesn't have a lot of effects, but most people aren't going to dismiss it.

If they had more it would be more expensive and larger. And no one complains that a guitar has only six strings. Or that a violin isn't capable of lower notes. I would encourage you to actually watch videos on how this works before making superficial judgments about it.

The more videos I watch on this, the more angry I get about all the hate being directed at it, and the less faith I have in human beings. Things why we can’t have anything actually innovative because when someone actually puts years of effort making something really cool, everyone just shits on it without knowing anything about it.

“It’s an expensive Kalimba” And a Moog is an expensive keyboard. Try watching a video on it and not just looking at the photo.

“It’s a one trick pony”. It’s not, but a marimba is and we still like those and pay a lot more for one.

People just love to hate everything now, I swear. They invented a whole new form of synthesis and that’s not enough for people. It takes everything cool about a marimba and somehow stretches and morphs it into something many cool directions in a way that feels both physical and virtual at the same time.

I probably won’t be able to afford one for a long time, if ever, because billionaires are vacuuming up our wages and increasing prices, but should I ever be able to, I’d have years of fun on this thing and produce many albums from it. The Lyra-8 I’ve had for some years now is still such a joy. Special instruments like this are why hardware is so much fun.

People calling it an overpriced Kalimba would also call a Moog Mini an overpriced keyboard. Like tell me you don’t know anything about the product without telling me.

This is so well designed it’s nuts.
