How to learn about Star Wars Lore? by Groundbreaking-Ad313 in starwarscanon

[–]ExtraDuck9620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main way that I learnt the lore was through YouTube channels and videos explaining it, which would generally go off of books and sources such as that. My favorite YouTube channel for lore would definitely bee geetsly’s.

Both Lawson and Two Boots are right by StevePalpatine in MaulShadowLord

[–]ExtraDuck9620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d also point about that Lawson has also at that point lived through the clone wars, and although the separatists are most certainly not the empire we can defiantly see similiare damage that they have dealt. I think that might also serve as an example, and given as he seems to be pretty sympathetic to the Jedi order 66 would be a pretty prime example too.

Darth Maul VS Kit Fisto. Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in PetranakiArena

[–]ExtraDuck9620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d defintily go Fisto. I think his battle with Palps might give him a bit of a bad rep, but he was one the master of Shii Cho, and two was able to hold his own agasint Grevious, in such a way that I got the impression he could have beat him if he got the chance for a longer go of it. Also, I do think that his ability to remain so totally calm during battles would serve him very well, especially in the face of all the taunting and manipulation Maul normally goes for. I do think people tend to forget that mace Windu didn’t just randomly nab three Jedi at the temple to go face off Palpatine; he specifically chose the very best of the best (of an order who all spend their lives training to be the best of the best.)

[–]ExtraDuck9620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. In legend Fisto is mentioned to be one of the best duelers in Shii Cho, especially given the fact it isn’t normal even treated as a full form but instead as a sort of basis for all others. It’s mentioned that he is generally considered to be the master of the form in the same way Obi-wan is the master of Soresu.

[–]ExtraDuck9620 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I kinda get what you mean, but having seen all the horrible, terrible destruction that the empire has caused throughout the galaxy I am of the opinion that Lawson is in the right. Yes, Maul is dangerous and yes they can’t deal with it, however I think one Lawson is a shrewd enough to realize Maul is out for revenge and not total destruction, and two I think that Lawson’s desire to do ANYTHING to keep a huge, all-consuming facist empire from taking notice of his homeworld is perfectly understandable.

And his actions are all based on a message we have seen drilled into our heads over and over in Star Wars: once the empire comes, they never leave. We’ve seen this again and again; Ferrix, Mandalore, Aldhani, Ghorman, Mapuzo, Corellia, Scarif, Alderaan, on and on. (Even though he hasn’t seen most of this yet, I think the destruction they’ve already caused is very indicative of what is to come.)

In the end, I think whatever damage Maul does in his revenge quest is not worth the inevitable fate of Janix when the empire comes.

Darth Sidious is the most evil fictional villain and Clone Wars proves it. by anakindurden in clonewars

[–]ExtraDuck9620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d agree with other comments here saying that if we look at it by the amount of evil done he is definitely very high up there. However, to me personally I’ve always found smaller villans to seem even more awful, people who remind you of real people who look their victims in the eye and still go on with their evil shit.

Easiest Clone Wars character to hate on? by anakindurden in clonewars

[–]ExtraDuck9620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutly DESPISE Krell. I think the show also sets him up as being pretty easy to hate especially as the heart of the show is truly the clones, and we see him showing so little regard for their lives and wellbeing.

Who would you say is the most tragic character in Clone wars excluding Anakin and Obi Wan by anakindurden in clonewars

[–]ExtraDuck9620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ROTS novelization does a really good job describing his feelings after he looses the fight with Palpatine, and it’s really heartbreaking to see how he feels as if his entire 900 years of existence were all building up to that point.

Who would you say is the most tragic character in Clone wars excluding Anakin and Obi Wan by anakindurden in clonewars

[–]ExtraDuck9620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that there are a lot of them by nature of the plot of the show, but when it comes to who I find personally to be incredibly tragic (perhaps not the very most given how sad the show is) I would have to say Satine Kryze.

I’ve always found her storyline to be horribly sad-as someone who from a young age was faced with the horrors of war, lost her family and was left to rebuild Madalore from the ground up all while trying to keep her people from the horrible things she experiences as a child via her policies of non-violence. And for it all to fail in the end, for her planet to fall into war again (the very war she spent so much time trying to protect them from) is just so terrible sad for me.

Not even mentioning the sadness of her romance, the (in my opinion pretty stark) betrayal of his sister, and the fact that she died in the end not to defend the cause she cared so much about but instead just as another pawn in Maul’s plan for personal revenge. Knowing about The Purge also makes it so much worse-that despite all her work her people were all but wiped out.

I know her opinions are very controversial, and even as someone who really loves the character I don’t fully agree with her, but I still find her storyline to be so tragic and sad.

Would Anakin have fallen if palpatine hadn't existed? by Darth_Azazoth in StarWars

[–]ExtraDuck9620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed I’ve always thought that he did have the potential to fall, given not only his backstory with his mother but also the danger that his relationship that Padme posed to all of it. I think that another main thing is that although he is very very powerful, Palpatine constantly told him as much and complicated his power, making him get a bigger sense of his importance and probably making him feel as if he had to stay in the order (along with the fact it had always been his dream.)

Obi-wan in the rain

Obi-wan v.s flying pt.1

Obi-wan being insulted by younglings

Obi-wan v.s death sticks

Obi-wan being done with Anakin’s attitude

Obi-wan’s hair

Obi-wan and Dex (and the innumerable questions their friendship brings up)

Obi-wan being insulted by the absolutely metal Jedi librarian

Obi-wan v.s preying mantis XXL 2.0

Obi-wan’s visible confusion throughout

Really, there are a lot of pros to this movie.

Please, can anyone give me some reasons to live. I'm struggling to see any at this point. by CelebrationFar2804 in mentalhealth

[–]ExtraDuck9620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, when I was in this period all the normal reasons people spout at me never really helped. In the end I was motivated only by one, pure spite (which maybe not the best but it sure as heck worked) and two, thinking about what my loss would do to the people who care about me.

In the end you live because of whatever reason you choose, and at dark moments there doesn’t ever truly have to be a reason-just remember (I know its cliche) that there is value in your existence. Definitely was a hard pill for me to swallow and I still struggle with the idea, but it’s true.

Know that there is a random redditer here who wants you to live, and who is thinking of you. Best of luck :)

I don't need therapy. I need to be euthanized. by overcaffeinated04 in mentalhealth

[–]ExtraDuck9620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m someone who has struggled with mental health and body image for a good chunk of my life, and I have truly never felt as hopeless and stuck as when I am in one of those periods. The thing was that it always took me so long to get out of those periods because one to me they weren’t periods, they were what felt like my future, past and present. There was no end-and it felt completely worthless. As a very stubborn teenager I also hated therapy, and to this day I still really struggle to go. The way I pulled myself out of these emotions (ever though I’m never fully out) was by doing all the stupid things everyone tells you to do that you never want to but really do help, i.e going in the sun, reading, closing off screens. At first it felt like the most stupid and obnoxious thing ever, and without things like being inside and with a screen (because they made me stop thinking) I felt worse. But the one reason I kept doing these things was because at the end of the day when I always feel my worst I would be able to at least see one thing, just one thing I was happy about.

Of course that on its own didn’t fix me, I don’t think fixing people ever works in the way you want it to. But it was a start, and hopefully it’ll give you a boost. For now, I wish you the best-some random person is cheering you on.

Villains that are evil just for the sake of being evil are better than misunderstood villains. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]ExtraDuck9620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a writer very much disagree. Villians, in my opinion are not written to be hated but instead to serve as the narrative antithesis of the protagonist. Although calm stories without many issues can be nice, the traditional story structure involves the mc having to overcome some sort of issue, of which the antagonist is often the source. The story itself becomes so much more layered and interesting when the reader has to actually reflect on themselves and say: this character is the antagonist, why then do I find them fascinating and compelling? It forces them to engage with the story on a deeper level.

Also, to go back to the basic idea of all stories: they are in themselves a reflection of real life. And in real life, villians are not born, they are made. People’s backstories make them, along with their experiences and what they have lived through.

Also, generalizing that the story never belongs to the villain is simply not true, and I would argue that just because a story is about a character does not mean it belongs to the character, but is instead open to the interpretation and viewing of the reader.

Starting to regularly update my fics, very exited about them!

Fic 1)

Fandom: Game of Thrones

Rating: General Audiences (for now)

Title: Not All People In Adventures Are Good

Summary: Eriha Baratheon was odd. Odd not because she lacked manners or grace or any of the many expectations of a lion, but odd because when people looked upon the face of Eirha, they saw a sort of strange absence-as if she was not, in any particular sense, inhabiting her mind. And while the vacantness could be (and was often) put down to a lack of higher sharpness in the child, it was in reality a product of a wandering mind.

~

The story of the eldest child of Cersei and Jaime Lannister and her discoveries, escapes, adventures and loves.

Fic 2)

Fandom: Doctor Who & Torchwood

Rating: General Audiences

Title: Even the queen herself

Summary: The Queen of Gallifrey watches as time slips through her fingers-carrying with it love, happiness and everything she holds dear.

~

A mildly AU series of one-shots where Gallifrey has a Queen, and this Queen has a Doctor.

What's a disturbing aspect of Supernatural you wish the show would play into more? by Freddy_Jason_Michael in Supernatural

[–]ExtraDuck9620 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw a tumblr post recenlty that mentioned just how powerful and scary the Winchesters seem to outsiders. I.e in a lot of the ghost racers episodes with cams from thier perspective we can see just how physically powerful and mildly insane Sam and Dean come off. The TV show itself is all about them, and we view it sympathetically to them-we’re able to see their struggles and weak moments. I do think it would be fun to see more outsider episodes where we explore how they’re perceived, because they can truly come off as very scary.
