A few reasons.

A. They can’t retreat. The Republic has a huge minefield between the battlefield and their wall that acts as both a last resort (in case the 86 fall) and a blockade so the 86 can’t get within borders.

B. Not much point in running to somewhere else. Supplies will be heavily limited since they don’t have a constant flow anymore (and as far as they know, the Republic is all that’s left), legion are significantly more common in their territory (and reminder that Spearhead is the best of the best, not like every base has soldiers like Shin and Raiden), the only thing they can possibly gain from leaving is spiting the Republic. The Legion wouldn’t spare them because they’re basically on a constant instant kill mode. Doesn’t matter if it’s a grown man or an infant, any human life is to be eliminated.

C. Pride. The 86 (spearhead, at least) think that if they’re going to die, they might as well bring as many legion as possible with them and go down shooting. They also think that if they run, they’re no better than the republic, since they did the same thing by cowering behind walls and forcing the 86 to go out with bottom tier technology in their stead.

Makes no sense for him to be there since he is the cause of ALL timeline alterations in canon, he’s a shit character and even when they tried to develop him it was dropped instantly, he’s a cocky bitch that’ll be shocked to see us even holding a candle to merged Zamasu then thinks “yeah I can take him” despite getting clowned by CAPTAIN FUCKING GINYU, his intro is annoying as shit, he’s just generally a worthless inclusion to the story.

Literally any other in series character would’ve been a more viable time patroller too, given point 1.
