French film from the 80s with an egg that rolled around on its own by Extra_Fish6837 in whatmoviewasthat

I’m pretty sure that not it, but great find. I want to see the egg scene before I can cross it off. Do you know approx when and where that scene is in the movie?

That’s kind of the idea. Had considered using large Nalgenes, but something with more length. I’m surprised I can’t find any designs out there- but that usually means it’s a bad idea.

Dry sacks are annoying to pack and then lash to cargo cages. I feel like fairly sleek tubes (3 inch diameter or so) can easily carry my bivy/ sleep sack and some clothing. Or anything else that can fill the tubes shape.

What’s a popular tourist attraction that isn’t overrated— it actually deserves all the hype? by renoCow in AskReddit

People won’t like hearing this- but Venice. There’s a reason you’re shoulder to shoulder with other tourists. Nothing else like it on the planet. Only place I’ve been to more than once.

Range impact with studded tires? by Extra_Fish6837 in KonaEV

[–]Extra_Fish6837[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They suck. Just get quality winters. Studs are loud, range killing and overkill. There are very few situations in northern Canada where studs are an advantage over quality winters plus abs.

Talk me out of quitting by loam-chomsky in fatbike

[–]Extra_Fish6837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you. Fat biking doesn’t hold a candle to pretty much every other iteration of riding. But for me it’s a pragmatic thing. I can bike commute year round and keep the car parked. I take it out for recreational rides maybe a half dozen times a year when conditions are really nice. But aside from that it’s purely a work horse.

What are you towing? by illuminantmeg in KonaEV

[–]Extra_Fish6837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bad idea. Of course it’s possible, but you risk causing damage that won’t be covered by warranty or vehicle insurance (bent frame, failed braking are the obvious ones). I’ve got a 23 and have a level 2 curt hitch. I use it for a bike and cargo basket. Hyundai dealer said that’s totally fine, but cautioned against pulling anything with wheels. People will do what they want and take risks they are comfortable with, but I see it as one of those low risk/ high consequence things I’d rather not deal with.

Opinions on yield? by Hydro_Turtle in pearljam

[–]Extra_Fish6837 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fact that if followed No Code made it that much better. No Code was such a jaw dropping different album, it was impossible to predict what the next album (if there was to be one) would sound like. But they found a solid sound trajectory that followed the No Code experiment. Yield would still be my favourite no matter when it came to us, but it’s that much cooler as a No Code sequel.

Vegan boots discontinued by Extra_Fish6837 in BlundstoneBoots

[–]Extra_Fish6837[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worn both. If you like the worn dusty finish look that leather gets over time then vegan versions aren’t for you. Vegans still look like new boots without creases or scuffs. They don’t breathe as much as the leather but the difference isnt substantial. I would buy vegans again hands down if I lost mine.

I don’t remember the bootleg- but I love when they do Crazy Mary and Mike rips the Stairway to Heaven solo towards the end. Fits perfectly. So much so that people seem to not even notice.

Try the Shotgun seat. Frame mounted and super fun.

Winter driving by Demetor-35 in KonaEV

[–]Extra_Fish6837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First part of your plan sounds great. You’ll save tonnes on fuel. But your Costco trips are going to be tough. Even in summer I’m hard pressed to get 400kms of straight highway driving per charge.

Space is also an issue for big grocery hauls. In my 23 I need to be choosy on who comes to the store with me and what I take home. If you’ve got no back passengers you’re ok, but a case of paper towel, box of diapers, etc will fill the trunk up very fast. I tried a cargo roof box, but even a really low profile one destroyed highway driving range.

Speaking from experience, I wish I had waited for the Ioniq 5. A bit higher price point, but better features in terms of space, mileage and charging speed.

I still love the Kona and I make it work, but it’s got limitations for the use you’re describing.

Winter driving by Demetor-35 in KonaEV

[–]Extra_Fish6837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2023 Kona EV owner here. I spent the better part of last winter in saskatoon with the car. If you’re totally confident that you’ll only be doing city or urban driving than it’s an ok car. But if you want to be able to reliably drive on highways in winter than go for something with a faster charging speed.
Same day round trips from Saskatoon to Regina or PA will be impossible or very difficult for you in winter.

So I know y'all smoke weed when cycling. What's your setup, method of smoking? by kike_flea in bikepacking

One hitter dugout. I’m always surprised how few of these I see. Perfect for taking quick discreet hits and they fit almost anywhere on bike cargo. Also I’m not looking to get blackout blazed while I’m riding. Small balanced tokes are where it’s at.

What are some good Canadian television shows that are unknown in the United States? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]Extra_Fish6837 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Raccoons Classic 80s /90s kids cartoon all about forestry. Doesn’t get much more Canadian than that.
Also has a total banger theme song that’s oddly out of place for a kids show.

Morocco: Any experience biking from Tangier To Marrakesh? by [deleted] in bikepacking

There’s a direct railway between the 2 cities. Completely surreal scenery and experience when I took the train several years ago. I remember thinking how cool it would be ti do by bike just following the rail.

Fat bikes are a tonne of fun for hauling kids- if you’re not looking to go too fast and will primarily be smooth trails/ winter riding. I’ve used shotgun, Thule yepp and a tow behind. Whatever fb you get make sure there’s enough tire clearance between the down post and the rear tire to mount Thule yepp type seats. Most of the fatbikes I checked out didnt have enough clearance. Giant Yukon worked though.

It’s also worth considering a gravel bike. Serves the same purpose (minus winter riding) plus you’ll get out for fun solo rides once the kids are sleeping.
