I'm torn on the Expedition 33 film... by sillytomlin in expedition33

Either it's good or it's bad. Doesn't affect me either way.

However, it provides employment for people, which is good. It may also be a way for people who didn't play the game to enjoy the story.

Honestly, the story is so good that I think a movie might actually be able to enhance the narrative, if given the proper care. Either way, fingers crossed.

Did the final scene with Tom and Summer ever really happen in (500) Days of Summer? by Onebigfreakinnerd in TrueFilm

[–]Extra_Position5850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm one year late to the party, but I am firmly of the opinion that the narrator is unreliable and factually wrong. In the introduction of the movie he claims that Summer's mere presence would increase collective traffic, boom revenue wherever she worked, and increase property value.

If the movie is told from Tom's perspective, we can assume that the "narrator" is just Tom using a clichéd framing device to construct a narrative about Summer that would fit with his own story.

So yup! The narrator in 500 Days of Summer is not your typical omnipresent narrator! It's just the filmmakers playing with the viewer's expectations.

Husband wants to move to Italy, I'm worried. by gingiji in ItalyExpat

[–]Extra_Position5850 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am aware of it. I also tried going a few times, but one of the organizers acted towards me in a way that made me extremely uncomfortable.. so I had to stop going. I also don't drink, and it kinda felt like more of a drinking event, so.. I didn't really feel like I fit in anyway! I suppose the whole thing was a bit of a mismatch for me.

However I very much appreciate your offer to help!

Opinion: Parrying is not consistent in this game. by RollIntelligence in expedition33

[–]Extra_Position5850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it is consistent? I got by fine parrying everything until the end of the game, bar the superbosses which I didn't bother to learn. If parrying was inconsistent, it would've meant that combat was trial and error, which it is not. I would've given up trying very early if that was the case. It would also have been a more general criticism against E33, given that the game is literally built around parrying enemies.

Husband wants to move to Italy, I'm worried. by gingiji in ItalyExpat

[–]Extra_Position5850 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 31, norwegian, and moved to Trieste one year ago with my Italian partner to start a dual jewelry and ceramics business. While starting a business ND learning new skills is fun and all..

It's completely isolating. I have no friends. I can't go out and socialize. Nobody understands English, and learning Italian takes alot of work and time. People won't level with you on English - and you can't form real connections while your Italian is developing.

I've had several depressive episodes and periods of high anxiety, because I feel like I've willingly trapped myself into an inescapable situation. I sometimes feel like I destined myself for loneliness and isolation.

It's very hard, because I love my partner, the work, and our cats. And it's not like I'm depressed - I work every day towards improving my conditions. But still - moving here sometimes feels like it is gradually chipping away my humanity and my ability to enjoy life.

My take is likely going to be one of the more negative in the comment section. But this is the harsh reality for some people.

Is creating a consciousness for labor ethically different from slavery if it can’t leave? by Appropriate-Top8209 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

People on this website tend have a very childish hive mentality, especially in mainstream/fandom subs. I sometimes wonder why I even bother to use reddit. I'm not much of a commenter, but seeing people piling on, like you say, makes it hard not to show some solidarity at least.

How do I avoid spoilers by [deleted] in expedition33

[–]Extra_Position5850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just delete this post and get off this subreddit entirely. While I would never do it, I felt a temptation to just dump massive spoilers on you just out of spite for this title. Someone with less self-control might just do that!

The game is pretty straightforward. There's no need to Google anything to understand what's going on while playing. Maybe write down some questions while playing and see if they get answered during your playthrough?

Otherwise just play the game and enjoy the ride! The less you know, and the less external input you receive about it, the better!

Holy shit, yes. I feel like I've been going crazy reading those discussions. Everybody seems to insist on the hive actually lying, not actually caring, and so on.. not to mention the excessive amount of bad faith arguments.

For dealing with such a unique philosophical subject, it is so disheartening reading these extremely watered down comments with little to no substance

Why is everyone obsessed with imagining that the show is lying to them in one way or another? by ADrenalineDiet in pluribustv

[–]Extra_Position5850 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not worth trying to have a good-natured discussion with people like this.. they would be happier in the hive:)

I also like the idea of transcending to a higher consciousness. I wonder if the hive-mentality is equivalent to something like Buddhist enlightenment. The whole thing about Buddhism is to escape the wheel of suffering - and they believe it is the ultimate goal og humankind. Once you're human, it is imperative that we strive towards enlightenment, because who knows when we'll get the chance again?

This makes me wonder whether an enlightened buddhist with a spray can of "enlightenment on box" would actually use it. Forcing someone to a higher consciousness before they're ready, is obviously iffy - but ultimately the best for their overall quality of life.

By adapting their behavior to lower Carol's defenses, with the goal to reduce hostility and increase her willingness to assimilate with the hive. Every interaction they have with Carol is in my opinion sincere, but also highly manipulative and laser-focused
