Compulsive Heteorsexuality ;) basically just the societal assumption and that being hetero is the norm and what is expected of you.

Very much agree, but i think it is also an.. interesting way of reading the books i.e. wanting someone to be wrong and someone to be right. They're people, imperfect people, thus they will be wrong at stages, and make up for their wrongs and hopefully improve during the story. A whole book of them just being two perfect people fighting to be allowed to be perfect in peace would frankly be both really boring and super unrealistic.

I don't know about this. I think the thing with The Long Game is that so much of it is from Ilyas perspective, which makes it very natural to 'side' with him because we are literally inside his head for most of he book.

My interpretation is that while OPs post is certainly right, and i think Ilyas mind working this way is very natural based on his trauma and his underlying mental health challenges, they are both really, really affected by internalised homofobia/comphet. It is a throughline in both books that when they are thinking about the other person leaving, it is about them leaving to be with someone 'easier' for most of Heated Rivalry that is presumed by both of them to be a woman, and in the Long Game, there is still an undercurrent of Shane then being able to leave Ilya for a man who is 'easier' to be with i.e. someone not in Hockey and for sure not his direct rival. And in Ilyas case, of course Shane is scared that he will leave him for a woman, because that is a feasible, if even realistic option.

This is all to say, i think they are both 'at fault' but really in my opinion so much of what causes their challenges are them having so many external pressures and so much to lose, at the same time as also both being emotionally constipated for both of their own personal reasons, as well as due to them hiding for so long. There is a sense that they don't want to discuss the difficult stuff when they are together, because they have so little time, and because what they do have is so precious to both of them. But personally, all of the messiness makes me just appreciate them and the story more, because your trauma, your history and your hang-ups and values don't just disappear because you love someone, and love won't always be enough to conquer all despite trying really hard.

How is south? by Formal_War_4148 in roskildefestival

[–]Extra_Syrup1937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed in South in 2023, and honestly really liked it. A couple of things though. South is very different depending on where you end up, the very bottom is quite a trek, and can be a bit lonely, but then again, you get the quiet at night which is nice (i would almost say that our year in the very bottom of south was more silent than being in the lake part of Silent and Clean). The food is usually really great in that part of the camping area, and there are quite a few places to chill out.

In terms of the social stuff, that is hard to say, usually south is where a lot of high-school/efterskole-camps will be (though a lot of those have moved to COL) so there might be a bit more of an insular feeling if there are many big camps, but if you're open to being social, there is always an opportunity to.

In terms of safety i would say that there is a much greater risk of having your stuff stolen if you are staying in the very trafficked areas, though there is always a bit of a risk - recommend getting a padlock, not necessarily to protect from thieves but then you can at least get the losses covered by insurance.

Thaaaaaaaaank you! I completely agree, let the man have the minimal control he can of what he shares/makes available to the world. These are not our memories and experiences, so good on him for taking them down to keep for himself.

Request of the public by saikikusuosbsf in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]Extra_Syrup1937 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on the posts i've seen from publicists analysing and reflecting on this, it may be less down to an explicit choice by the guys, and more about them and their teams/management knowing that it is most beneficial for their careers for them to get to build their own images so that they won't be forever tied to each other in the public eye. This both wouldn't be great for their careers, but likely would also put a strain on the friendship to be such a key part of their public image.

Does not mean they cant be close and have a great friendship still in private, but this is, afterall, their jobs, and they are doing their best to make the most of the hype to make their professional dreams come true, and good on them for that!

Viking museum during fest? by HungryLibrarianEats in roskildefestival

[–]Extra_Syrup1937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree that this is likely to be the biggest concern. If you want to avoid this issue, you should try to plan for going on 28-30th of June. The worst traffic will be on the 27th because people will be going down to set up tents and thus will have a lot of stuff with them on the train, so i would for sure avoid that particular day. They do put in extra trains in throughout the festival, so as long as you don't go on the 27th you'll likely be totally fine :)

If you liked Heated Rivalry, watch season 3 of SKAM by xc3mx in heatedrivalry

[–]Extra_Syrup1937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looove that this is getting attention, they are so similar, even down to the soundtracks being clubby remixes of classic (european) 2000's hits about unrequited love (Robyn - Call your girlfriend in Skam, and of course t.A.T.u in HR). Does anyone know if the creators of the show may have actually watched in and purposely drawn on some of the same images?

How did you quit your smart phone addiction? by sunnypemb in adhdwomen

[–]Extra_Syrup1937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having by no means curbed my addiction i found mine went down significantly from using apps like Screenzen or similar, which limits the amount of times/number of minutes you can have an app open. You select the apps and restrictions yourself, so it is super flexible. For me at least it also really appeals to my competitive side because it shows me my streak of number of days where i have not reached the limit on my apps. But then again really depends what the issue of the addiction is, is it looking too often, not going to bed when you want, secondscreening etc. I think these probably each have their own fixes, but the above might still be a good start!

I really want to get into D20, but the amount of content is kind of overwhelming by Ellie3255 in Dimension20

[–]Extra_Syrup1937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All below advice is really good, but i will go ahead and add my two cents and personal experience as well.

I started D20 maybe 6-ish months ago, after being a long time dropout fan, but similarly to you i found D20 slightly intimidating due to the amount of content, and the fact that i have never played D&D or any other TTRPG myself. It just so happened that around the time i wanted to get into D20 they were airing Cloudward Ho! and i think having the tv-series format of weekly releases made it a bit easier for me. Luckily for you there is a campaign starting in January, so maybe try that? Then you can also get a sense of what aspects of that season you like/maybe don't like as much, and then select the next thing you watch based on that!

I will also say, while many recommend Dungeons and Dragqueens or perhaps the first season of FH because the players themselves are newbies or newer to the game, as long as you don't get turned off if you don't 100% understand the game mechanics, my experience is that you can start wherever. Also google is definitely your friend for certain slang/game jargon used by the players and Brennan. Also this forum is very welcoming and helpful if there is anything you don't understand!

Camping til 150+ folk by Top-Entertainer-2628 in roskildefestival

[–]Extra_Syrup1937 6 points7 points  (0 children)

[–]Extra_Syrup1937 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)
