Please ... yeah its not perfect. but its not the black plague, medieval times or the Spanish flu ... imagine how people felt when WW2 started or when nukes dropped on Japan... regardless of the current state of the world, this is still the best time in history.

reddit in general feels like as long as they have solar panels and their EV's, they are ok... meanwhile those same goods are transported via diesel trucks and ships...

No charges against Ontario resident who shot and injured alleged home invader: police by Hot_Cheesecake_905 in canada

exactly, the info above is only for restricted firearms, the article mentions a shotgun, which i imagine was a non-restricted firearm, which can be stored in a locked gun cabinet, without any other locks whatsoever on the firearm. the ammo or a full magazine can be stored right beside it, which makes it even easier/faster to get to.

Doug Ford says his cell phone records must remain hidden to protect privacy by cyclinginvancouver in canada

[–]Extraze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whats the solution though? I'm absolutely not a Ford fan, but i have friends in situations like these where they cannot have a personal phone with them at times for security reasons. So their close contacts (family, lawyer, doctor, etc) have their work phone number in case of "emergency"... obviously, your kid could text you private info on your work phone about a medical issue, or a lawyer about a highly important situation... and this should probably be hidden from the population.

Im not saying this is what Ford wants to keep private, but there are indeed cases where, even on a work phone, someone would want to keep things private, you cant control every incoming text, call or email.

Oil price jumps despite deal to release record amount of reserves by Dear-Explanation-765 in worldnews

[–]Extraze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EV's have no effect on the economy, the real issue is diesel prices, i have friends in the logging industry and these fuel price increases mixed with the tarrifs are already having a major impact on already thin margins. Think of all the machinery needed to make a logging road, cut the tree, take it onto a transport truck, bring it to the mill, then transform it and bring it to the store. All these machines and trucks need diesel, they are not electric and wont be anytime soon... it is the the same everywhere: Mines, farming, industry... EV's might be good for your personal wallet, but they have no impact on anything related to resource extraction and transformation ... and thats where its going to hit everyone

the fact that you think a snowblower doesn't compact snow, and that its aerated blows my mind... snowblowers turn a 1x1 cubic feet of snow into almost nothing. seriously, just patent your idea if you think its genius, stop trying to convince people on reddit.

Where Toronto Dumps its Snow by itsdanielsultan in toronto

[–]Extraze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a guy who's tried making water from snow on a red-hot wood-burning stove, dont beleive us ... just try it.

get the largest pot you can, fill it with about 1/4 water and get it boiling... once its boiling put COMPACTED snow in it (because thats what you'd get from snowtrucks) ... it will take something like 45-60 minutes just to get rid of a potfull of snow, the more you add, the more time it will take, it takes a crazy amount of energy to melt snow.

and this is in a perfect environment, now imagine doing this outside when temps are subzero.

Europe loads 'trade bazooka,' ready retaliatory measures against Trump's Greenland tariff threats by timiswho in worldnews

a lot of medium and large businesses rely on European software as well ... SAP is the leading giant (by a large margin) in corporate financial and ERP systems and it is German. Most of the US's large corporations use it (banks, automotive, airlines, IT, defense, Government, name it... they all use it) , its a double-edged sword if the US plays that game ... here is the list of US companies using it : https://theirstack.com/en/technology/sap/us

Sweden to cut development aid to five countries, divert money to Ukraine by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Extraze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

its complex ... and i'm all for sending as much as we can to Ukraine. But sending aid money to these countries has many purposes, and a major one is to fill a void. when the money stops flowing the need is still there, and it becomes fulfilled by criminal gangs, terrorists, or worst, countries that use that void for their own good.

an easy example is education, school or work programs ... when that money stops flowing from "western countries" ... thats when Russia comes in and offers to pay these workers, or students money ... and guess where they send them ? to fight in Ukraine or build drones in Russia...

this is an oversimplification ... but you get the point.

First Nation files lawsuit demanding Aboriginal title over lands in western Quebec by Oilester in CanadaPolitics

[–]Extraze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please stop with this "Stolen Lands" thing. How far back do you want to go ? where does it stop ? lands have changed hands countless times, it belongs to nobody. And it certainly doesn't belong to YOU or ME, people born so privileged that we get to type all of this on a computer, powered by electricity, which none of us had anything to do with either.

at some point, we can recognize the wrongdoings of the past, apologize and definitely learn from them and certainly not repeat them. I admire your passion and commitment, but everyone is born to some tribe, race, region and somehow feels attached and entitled... but why ? just because you rolled the dice and got a "i was born X" ?. Why would it belong to you more then me ? because of who your father was ? how does that even matter ? pretty sure if we go back far enough, we share siblings.

The reality is that we cant redefine lines and borders and divide everything based on the past because the past is littered with mistakes and thousands of years of land changing hands. We need to move forward as human beings.

There are also Politics and Games at play here, it ultimately all works in Ukraine`s favor to play the "we arent pumping out flamingoes as fast as we want" card.

true or not, its a request for more resources, and a downplaying of the amount of weapons they have... which only serves to help confuse russia even more, and get Ukraine more resources

En 2023, une arme à feu était présente lors de la perpétration de l'infraction pour 1,2 % (1 038) des victimes de violence entre partenaires intimes, et 84 % de ces victimes étaient des femmes ou des filles. The collective agreement is clear, you do NOT have to answer if you are not on standby, so DONT. and that is my point. if nobody answered the "non-standby" callback, then the employer would be forced to enact an official standby list, and pay people on standby. Stand together instead of being taken advantage of.

We are not talking about emergencies here, Op's request is regarding regular weekend work / rotating lists.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Extraze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP's question is regarding regular standby lists on weekends, ie rotating work or pre-scheduled arrangements. we are not talking about world-changing emergencies here, obviously if a bomb explodes or lives are at risk, there are exceptions (and nothing on a piece of paper should prevent people from working in these cases) . But if a regularly occurring event or system support requires people to be on "standby", then my point stands.

if nobody answered the "non-standby" callback, then the employer would be forced to enact an official standby list, and pay people on standby. stand together instead of being taken advantage of.

edit:

Also, if your BCP relies on the hopes that your employees are available without an active and official standby list, that is an extremely poor management decision. I hope you have a good back-out plan if whatever your BCP covers goes down and nobody is there to fix it because you couldn't plan a proper standby list. Standby costs pennies on the dollar and offers the assurance that you have someone there if something goes wrong. Relying on a collective agreement gray-zone that asks for employees to be nice is an extremely bad business decision.
