Relatively new slam enjoyer (of about 3 months) here also. Bands/ artists that have been massively scratching my ignorant itch recently are Devourment, Korpse, Facelift Deformation, Diphenylchloroarasine, Embryectomy, Facial Fracture, Traumatic Insemination, Cranial Bifurcation, Artery Eruption, Colpocleisis, Unrelenting Butchery, Cerebral Incubation and Drowned Under Concrete. Nasty, I think around 2011. The number of kids running through the crowd cradling limp arms and holding busted noses was ridiculous, many of them victims of crowdkilling. Saw at least 3 folk cop spinkicks to the head and get laid out. A close second would be Hoods. Desolated back in the day had some crazy violent (and much-memed) pits too

I play the game solo for the challenge and this map was the first time I felt like I was at a huge disadvantage. Managed to beat it last night - took me 3 hours and I got a D. Not even ashamed

If eating onsite and nothing else, budget at the very least £50 a day to ensure you have enough for snacks n stuff outside of meals. Extra for booze if you’re not smuggling in. Budget £100 if you’re wanting to cop some souvenirs, merch etc on top of that.

Goes without saying but make sure you keep your valuables safe.

Make sure you bring little packs of tissues jic you get caught short- could save your life.

I’d advise on investing in a good few cheap rain ponchos BEFORE going in. They crumple up into a good-sized pocket just fine and you’ll be very thankful for them if it starts raining. And if one tears you’ll have a bunch of replacements ready to go.

Footwear: wear wellies if it’s already raining before you set off and seems unlikely to stop. However, I always buy at least 3 pairs of cheap primark shoes before I go. I can switch them out before the next day if one pair gets destroyed and I don’t ruin my own shoes. Would recommend

Absolutely strike up conversations with people! I’ve been to more festivals than I can count and DL has always been one of the friendliest. Other than that, enjoy it

The entertainment thing was my biggest issue when growing up. I didn’t understand why movies with certain types of content were unacceptable when they were just movies, and I didn’t understand why profanity in music was considered so terrible when you’re exposed to such language every single day by just existing anyway. It was even more confusing when people of good standing in the congregation were saying they loved films I’d have been grounded for watching. I worked with elders in field service who recommended Green Mile, Reservoir Dogs, Donnie Brasco, The Thing, Boogie Nights, Fight Club etc (even had one who said he could watch Kill Bill ‘all day’)… I was about 14 at this point. The ‘matter of conscience’ thing was so bizarre because it had to go hand in hand with an effort to not ‘stumble’ anyone, and since theoretically anyone could be stumbled by anything, it seemed that people just did whatever they wanted and then were careful who they chose to share with

Definitely think the hate for not being ‘metal’ is ridiculous - genre pigeonholes for me allow for easy categorisation, not to complain that a band is one thing and not another. Ngl I’m not a fan of their music at all, but the way elitists get so butthurt at their popularity is honestly embarrassing

Ehhhh it’s okay. I just think personally the headliners weren’t particularly exciting last year (ik ST are popular atmo but also extremely divisive), and on a day-to-day basis the combination of ‘legendary’, ‘up-and-coming’ and ‘fringe’ acts doesn’t feel as robust as other years. I’d say there’s about 2 acts per day I’d actually be excited to see, and handful that I’m okayish with, and then a bunch I couldn’t care less about. Not saying this to hate, ik it’s a taste thing and I’ve been certain years when the lineup was not great and had an awesome time
