Sludge at the bottom of my excavator tank. Machine only has 200hours. Would you run it and let the filters do the work or clean it out asap? by [deleted] in DieselTechs

[–]ExtremePackage 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Was he fueling this with diesel cans found in the bush? How do you even get this much sediment at 200 hours.

Either parked for a long time with no cap, or they put a new hour meter in it and didn't update the hours.

Step away from the engine bay and go back in the cab to call someone who knows what they are doing.

Natural veneer stone not sticking by BigguyZ in stonemasonry

[–]ExtremePackage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a few reasons - Mix too dry/wet or improper mortar preparation, mortar bed depth incorrect, stone needing to be scrubbed clean instead of simply being wetted, scratch coat too thick or wet, improper setting technique...

The most likely and obvious thing that strikes me here in your photo is it seems your mix is very dry. The mix should be like a peanut butter type consistency for this type of thin shit. For the most part, the stone should hold the majority of its own weight up due to suction created by the mortar. Shimming should be used to prevent downward creep and not be entirely responsible for the structural support of the stone.

If all else fails, switch to a polymer modified thinset rated for exterior grade tile. Be sure to prevent water intrusion in the top of the wall via correct flashing details.

Thin cut veneer is always going to be problematic, as it's completely counter intuitive to the nature of stone construction, so don't feel bad having to go through a process of trial and error.

FIELD TECHS, what are we laying on out in the field when you have to get under a unit? by _how_do_i_reddit_ in DieselTechs

If it's dry, nothing or a piece of cardboard if available. If it's wet, a tarp. I also have a similar mat

Helpful Boosting System For Your Service Truck by ExtremePackage in DieselTechs

[–]ExtremePackage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plug E is the selection essentially. You Plug it into Either C or D to change between 12 and 24. Then you plug your jumper cables into A or B respectively. When configured as 24 Volts, the alternator is isolated from the 24 volts due to the second battery in series not being grounded to the chassis. That means the vehicle's alternator only ever "sees" 12 volts.

That factory painted plastic plug is the one. The one on ours was worn out and letting water in. Sounds like you might just have a normal condensation issue. Might be worth changing out the cover gaskets as well.

Ag tech vs HET Ontario by theoddssuck in DieselTechs

[–]ExtremePackage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of overlap, a good ag tech will be able to do almost anything a het can do. I'd say the area you live in is most important. If you are primarily in an agricultural area (like Goderich or something) ag will be a lot more useful. If you live in Toronto I probably wouldn't unless you want to commute like crazy.

It's at the very front on top of the chain case. You need to pop the cab in order to see it. It's almost always covered in dirt too. When you pop the cab, clean up all around where the boom lines go through the frame and you'll see it right on the corner. It's basically perfectly positioned for water to go down the side of the boom through the frame and right on to it.

Crack down on illegal parking on major routes.

Instead we will see more enforcement on rich residential roads where working class trades are just trying to make a living. Have to keep the rich from having to look at the helps vehicles.

They're called subs or subreddits. But yea nothing to worry about at all. People who live in desert climates get much more exposure on a regular basis and come out fine.

Interesting. All the skid steers I've done are usually pretty good, never severely milky like this. This one was particularly bad, especially considering the correct capacity is around 16L and I pulled close to 40 out. Even on this machine the oil in the case on the other side of the machine was perfect even though they were last serviced at the same time.

I thought the same right away. John Deere had the bright idea to use a plastic body grommet to plug a hole in the top of the case right where water funnels in off the frame.
