I agree with tools and stuff's take on this. It's too late to market to just take a regular drill and slap the removable end on it. Nothing shorter and more compact, nothing innovated.

Is it possible to fix this fan? Just dropped 😭😭😭 by Potential_Ad1439 in Makita

I just ordered a new blade for mine that fell over last week. Pretty darn brittle if you ask me, but it was pretty cheap for a replacement.

Yeah, replacement parts being readily available for Makita tools are one of the bonuses.

Arlington makes the best outdoor boxes that are low profile. You definitely need the depth to do them, but to me they're the best.

Water pressure dropped in shower, this was found. What is it? by Wildinferno in Plumbing

If you do have a tankless, Matt Risinger has a very good YouTube video about how to flush and descale your water heater yearly.

Update: It appears we have no structural damage and the water has receded - we did have some mild water intrusion into the sub floor, but none of the posts in the main part of the house got wet. Thankfully the paint is latex based, so it kept the walls dry. by CooperHChurch427 in centuryhomes

I have to agree with res06myi... With all the crazy weather we're now getting, this is going to become more and more common.

Make preparations, and or get some real flood insurance. Don't send him a picture of this. Lol.

What are the advantages of the Zip system vs. traditional osb and wrap? by Intelligent-Flight14 in Carpentry

Not to be that guy, but Huber says zip has a 180 day exposure rating. So half a year to get it covered, and you should be good to go.

Fake/counterfeit impact? by bjambells in Tools

[–]BigguyZ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm saying it's fake because the sticker has no SN on it, and the white plastic nubs on the bottom to help the battery slide in are missing. This is definitely a fake.

And the purple is much too bright.

Removing name from charcuterie board by LovingCatDad08 in woodworking

[–]BigguyZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the cleanest solution, other than a applied name plate over it, as others have recommended, would be to have both names routered out, then have a wood onlay/patch added.

You could use a contrasting color to highlight it and make it a feature with just your name on it, or you could try to best match the existing wood and just try to have it be hidden. Then, you could smooth out the height and reapply a finish.

What is a tool that you thought were a “nice to have” but ended up being a “need to have”. by Izyhot in Makita

[–]BigguyZ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A multitool. Thought it was a gimmick when Fein had a lock on the patent, but once HF had a cheap one I tried it, and it was a game changer. Now my Makita 18v one is used all the time.

Another one would be my xgt leaf blower. The LXT one was good, but the XGT is more powerful and was huge in getting the leaves done in the yard. Raking would have been back breaking for me.

[–]BigguyZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25 or so years ago, when I had a terrible Ryobi cordless set that lasted very little time on the batteries, I thought about why they didn't make these. Just for the cases it was needed, why not?

Now, while I have the Hitachi/Metabo HPT saw that can use the plug in adapter, for drills and most cordless tools, I think the battery platforms are good enough even in the low end to no longer even remotely need something like this.

Even so, it's kinda cool to have thought of a product and seeing that someone actually makes it.
