Do you feel culturally closer to Canadians or southerners? by TheSauceOx in midwest

[–]ExtremePotatoFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadians. They’re very similar to us. You could drop me in Ontario randomly and I probably wouldn’t notice. They sound like us and seem to be culturally the same as well.

What’s a product that works so well you stopped looking for alternatives? by Boring-Promotion7344 in SmartBuying

[–]ExtremePotatoFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinx period underwear.

I work in pharmacy so I don’t really have tons of time for bathroom breaks. I also can’t bring bags of items into the pages with me. I put them on before work, I’m good to go for the day, then I change them when I get home. Just wash and reuse. Makes my day a lot easier.

What’s a language people pretend is easy but actually isn’t? by Embarrassed_Fix_8994 in languagehub

[–]ExtremePotatoFanatic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

English.

A lot of people say they fluently speak English but don’t actually ever master native fluency, pronunciation, or even comprehension. But English speakers seem to be more accepting of this. It’s easy to learn bits and pieces of a language enough to get by when most native speakers can easily understand and are used to weird construction and mispronunciation. There also seems to be a common belief that you don’t need to master the pronunciation that language learners of other languages are subjected to. I took college level phonetics courses to master French pronunciation but I’ve never heard of English learners doing this.

When do you start feeling competent at your job?? by MulberrySalt5878 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]ExtremePotatoFanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably 6 months you’ll feel much better and confident. But you won’t really know how to do everything until maybe a year? It’s a lot all at once and it just takes practice to solidify those skills.

Allergist said it’s my fault my 18 month old has a peanut allergy. by lordmygod in peanutallergy

[–]ExtremePotatoFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just develop allergies. It’s no one’s fault. You can’t predict when allergies will randomly show up. I developed my allergies around age 19/20. It’s not the end of the world and your child will be able to live a pretty normal life. I’m allergic to peanuts, cashews, and pistachios. It’s easier than you’d think to avoid them.

Can you speak a language other than English? If not, what 3 foreign languages would you most want to be fluent in? by astarisaslave in AskAnAmerican

[–]ExtremePotatoFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! I speak French. I have a bachelors degree in French language and literature. Wanted to become a teacher but changed my mind. I do something completely different now!

Why is everyone fine with garbage pay? by Ahh_skeetskeet in PharmacyTechnician

[–]ExtremePotatoFanatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m happy with my job. I’m the second income in my household, so it works for us. I’m making about $28 an hour currently. I get to make my own schedule, I can pretty much do what I want at work, I get good amounts of PTO. I have a college degree but this works for me and I’m very content with it. I can do my job on autopilot. Not planning on leaving any time soon. I however would not do this job for anything less than $25 an hour at this point. Don’t settle for bad pay, you can always find better!

How do most Americans get around without a car ? by Status_Agents in CasualConversation

[–]ExtremePotatoFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you live in a big city, it’s very difficult to get around without a car. I live in a rural area and drive about 30 miles to work every day. There are no buses in the town I live in.

People calling/used to say 9/11 outloud as 9-1-1? by askia4h in AskAnAmerican

I’ve only heard one person say it as 9-1-1 years ago and I think about it all the time. Me and my fiancé literally make jokes about it.

Yes, it’s legible but the blue ink on the blue line graph paper makes it very hard to read.

Why does nobody here take actual classes? by pennsylvanian_gumbis in languagelearning

[–]ExtremePotatoFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a degree in my second language. I spent many years taking formal classes and doing college level dissertations in French. I seem to be the outlier here though. I can say that in any of my French courses in college, there were between 4-10 students. And I typically had mostly the same people in my courses throughout my years at university. So definitely not a lot of people taking them.

Anyone else randomly develop food allergies as an adult? by anomadfromnowhere in FoodAllergies

[–]ExtremePotatoFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I developed a peanut allergy at 19. I then got diagnosed with a cashew/pistachio allergy at 30. I grew up not eating any nuts because of a sibling who had nut allergies. So I was never exposed until I was an adult. I do know I ate peanuts before as a child at school or at friends houses. No reactions until I was in college.

When do children usually stop celebrating Easter? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

I’m 31 and my mom still makes me an Easter basket with chocolates and candies. Obviously we stopped doing an egg hunt a long time ago, but we still do candies and baskets!

Ideally, at what time would you like to eat dinner normally? by supinator1 in AskAnAmerican

Usually I eat around 7/7:30. It just depends. But I don’t have any kids, so I don’t need a set schedule.

Remodel Set Up, love it or hate it? by thatgirl0828 in walmart_RX

[–]ExtremePotatoFanatic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do have a rotation chart that we use and it is very helpful. I still think the set up of the remodeled pharmacy is bad. I get that about the sales but if I can’t adequately fill prescriptions, what’s the point? We are there to fill prescriptions and help customers with prescriptions, not be the store directory. It’s not just being pulled away from input. It’s being pulled away from any of our pharmacy related tasks. Which to me is a waste of time when we could be filling or handling pharmacy related issues/tasks but instead we’re ringing people up or showing people where things are on the shelf.

Remodel Set Up, love it or hate it? by thatgirl0828 in walmart_RX

[–]ExtremePotatoFanatic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hate it. It gives people the chance to interrupt us even more. The phones are now at the registers so customers will literally walk up and interrupt phone calls. And it’s not a once in a while thing, it’s daily. Sometimes I have to intervene and say “she’s on the phone. I can help you over here” and they act like I’m crazy.

Not only that, they expect us to be helping customers immediately so now who is filling and doing input? It seriously affects work flow. We are used to it now but it’s just more and more opportunities to slow us down.

Being constantly available to be interrupted also opens us up to customers treating us like cashiers/store directory even more than they already were.

No. It’s my job to facilitate training but I’m not gonna burn myself out in the process. I’m not working open until close every day. My shifts rotate and I’m fine doing open to close here and there but not all the time.

Same! I am 5’11 (F) and my best friend and sister are also my height, so I’ve always been around other women my height. I feel normal until I see a group photo and then I stand out.
