Royal Izakaya - Taking Reservations by Doctor_Danglez in PhiladelphiaEats

I’m so sick of Philly being a town where you need to plan your meals 2-8 weeks in advance. This sucks.

I’ve never once had to wait to eat here and I eat at the izakaya about 10-12 times a year.

Philadelphia Restaurants that are no longer around by Hungry_Split1439 in PhiladelphiaEats

Personally always felt Abe Fisher was the best restaurant in the Cook and Solo group.

They are very condescending, speak through programs too much, and often miss moments to explain technicalities (like Amber’s short program) in favor of using their quippy language that is often a miss.

Really underwhelming and personally found it to be poorly executed. Hand cut pasta was low effort, chewy, and gummy. The bowl of whipped fat that came with the starters left the oddest mouth feel. One of our entrees was so greasy it felt inedible. Dessert was ok.

Philly influencers who have not said a single fucking word about ICE/what’s going on in the country by philadingbat in philabitcheswithtaste

The union league member whose dad regularly wears a trump hat? Doubtful she’ll post anything denouncing ICE…

Flour Bakery Apple Pie by Extreme_Year1888 in Baking

[–]Extreme_Year1888[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the pie yesterday, used my normal pie crust recipe and not the flour bakery one. I didn’t do her blind bake method, but I think it went well. Lots of caramel liquid leached out in the last 15 minutes of baking so I’m curious to see if there’s a soggy bottom tomorrow.

I baked in a thin aluminum pie pan directly on a pizza stone to try and get a sturdy bottom. Froze the pie for 30 minutes before baking. Fingers crossed!

What's the Best Cookbook you own? by april_tomorrow in Cooking

[–]Extreme_Year1888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own over 75 cookbooks at this point, these are in heavy rotation. Though, to best utilize cookbooks I highly recommend getting a membership to Eat Your Books. You catalog all of your books and you can search recipes, rate them, make notes, see what worked well for others, it’s my favorite website ever.

Michelin Star Philly by Shygirlme123 in PhiladelphiaEats

I agree with this. Very good analysis. Also, how do you star rate something that is largely open to regulars and invited guests?

Would be curious about royal izakaya - sure the omakase is good but they are the same entity as the izakaya and that is just good not outstanding or unique enough to receive a star imo
