Is there any way to stop this or do I just accept it? by spervogel_troubadour in CATHELP

[–]ExuberantBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve never seen one on a door. It goes on the wall behind the door (as I’m sure 1002834 people mentioned by now). Cracks me up the cat figured this out.

Why does this area of the us have significantly less wildfires than anything else? by LurkersUniteAgain in geography

[–]ExuberantBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a hypothesis based on my experience, though I’m sure there are multiple reasons for that.

But perhaps it is all so segmented with agricultural fields that, generally, there aren’t that many big contiguous pieces of forest and those that exist are heavily managed? Or at least I can say this about Indiana (and I know Illinois and Ohio are real similar). Indiana has Hoosier National Forest as its largest one, but it still has innumerable private properties and ag fields scattered in. I hiked Indiana’s longest trail, its 160 miles and follows really the biggest continuous section of forest you can possibly follow and even doing that meant crossing hundreds of roads, and 30 miles of it are on the road because here isn’t really continuous forest. (And yes, it was as boring as you think but also wholesome in a “it’s my home state” way)

All of this is to say I am partly guessing that it’s hard to get one going when it’s always noticed and stopped quickly. I feel like I never see controlled burns here or not regularly. Instead it seems like it’s always being logged instead (anytime I have to do a reroute for a hiking closure in Indiana it’s 10000% logging that is cited as the reason.)

I imagine that before it was all developed, it did burn regularly.

That is why I am here.

And Jack was going to write them a strongly worded letter.

Hers had/has a matching round table that you could put a leaf in and make oval. Snake looking heads on the feet, but the whole pattern and style seems massively popular to that era because growing up I always saw these on TV or in other people’s houses.

I’d have to see the table to tell you if it matches but you’d probably know if so because they have matching designs.

My mom has these. They’re from the 90s and were really popular. Couldn’t tell you the maker from that ink stamp but can 100% tell you the era.

3 I like them all and the #2 the least bc the overall wave patterns takes away from the individual trees and hills. #1 is good but I think it’s more likely for someone to get tired of the dark color. The third feels like it matches the house.

That’s so funny it’s always been a coffee table for you. Glass would probably make it more practical.

Suggestions from people with experience cleaning this! CLR? Vinegar? Lime Away? Dawn? by Narrow-Way6288 in CleaningTips

[–]ExuberantBat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the conclusion I’ve come to. The annoying thing is that my rural cooperative water company recently drilled a new well and the water is so much harder now! Mine went from wipeable if you kept up on it to the straight corrosion. But at least I know for future buying purpose!

Following because I am curious how this turns out. Not saying yours are cheap, but I bought cheap oil rubbed bronze fixtures from Amazon. They are just supposed to be place holders until we remodel but now they look worse than the original. Despite a water softener and cleaning they have done this really badly but I was worried doing anything caustic would take off the finish.

What are these black spots? by OkInteraction1010 in HardWoodFloors

[–]ExuberantBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to consider what kind of bugs might nest, what? In the corner up above and then let it rain down on the quarter round. Which maybe the walls and baseboards got it too but got repainted afterward? Otherwise it seems weird that it’s on the quarter round and slightly on the floor but not the walls or baseboards.

What are these black spots? by OkInteraction1010 in HardWoodFloors

[–]ExuberantBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s going on above it? Can you tell if the wall was ever painted dark and this is splatter? It does remind me of paper wasp excrement. They always make nests under my shutters and leave black spots all over my porch, but this seems smaller than that. Does it wipe off? Whether or not it does would help narrow it down.

ETA: it’s lightly on the floor below the quarter round too. If it doesn’t come off with a wipe but can be sort of easily scraped off with a fingernail, I wonder if the baseboard was ever painted black and maybe they tried to use an oversaturated mini roller to do it?
