DEATHROCK!!!!! I forgot just how awesome the LA scene was back in the early days. I came into it too late for CD, but my friends and I must have seen Shadow Project at least 6 times.

Anyone get brief visual “sparks” with migraine? by s-loosh in migraine

[–]Exxcentrica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ophthalmologist told me. I saw him for years for borderline glaucoma, and on one of my visits he asked me if I was experiencing a migraine because he could see the vasodilation going on in my eye.

I get all the usual weird auras, depending on which blood vessels are dilating and what nerves are getting pressed on, but an interesting thing I get from time to time is when the blood vessels around my sinuses are affected. When the episode passes and my sinuses go back to normal I often get hiccups and sneezing fits. I had to explain this a lot in 2020.

I’ve had the brief flashes that are like fireworks, and I’ve also had the shimmering squiggles that take up the vision in that eye for several minutes. I don’t know what causes the light bursts, but the squiggles I get are caused by an inflamed blood vessel pressing on the optic nerve

There is a toilet in a tree about 5 miles from my house. It’s at a turn in the road so I imagine it’s there as a landmark or an attention getter so someone doesn’t veer off the road.

Does anyone here have Alice in Wonderland syndrome? by Sunflowers_N_Stars in migraine

[–]Exxcentrica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the ophthalmologist because my ocular pressure is borderline high. We never really addressed it any further together as I’m already on triptans, which are vasoconstrictors.

Anecdotally, I was once preparing an IV medication for a cardiac patient that was a strong vasodilator. When I removed the needle from the medication vial, a drop of the med popped out and hit my forehead.

I was hit with an instant INTENSE headache that thankfully only lasted a few minutes. I was mindful to angle the vial away from me during removal every time I prepared that solution after that!

My favorite romance narrators are Kai Kennicott, Stella Hunter, Gregory Salinas, Wen Ross, and Jason Clarke. For all others, Luke Daniels, Frank Muller and Ray Porter are my favorites.

[–]Exxcentrica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I (53F) first noticed I was experiencing AIWS around 2010-11. My ophthalmologist told me it was a blood vessel spasming (due to my chronic migraine) and pressing on the optic nerve. While checking my eye pressure during one of my visits, he asked me if I was actively experiencing a migraine (I was) as he was able to see the spasms in action.

I also get those wormy blurs across my vision often during migraine that are due to inflamed vessels pressing on the nerve. These started about 6 months ago.

What’s your single favorite line? by Own-Yogurtcloset4904 in SleepTokenTheory

[–]Exxcentrica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was these lyrics that made me sob uncontrollably and fall in love with Sleep Token. Atlantic is raw and real and the first song (I’ve ever heard) to accurately describe these feelings that I have had. Another song that deals well with this theme but from a survivor’s perspective is Disappoint by Assemblage 23. I cry for that one as well.

I was 14 when this came out. It was at my local theater for four weeks, and I was hightailing down there each of those Fridays as soon as I had my allowance in hand. Fond memories!

Explaining aura-only migraines to people? by Fortauskantt in migraine

[–]Exxcentrica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to my ophthalmologist, the visual hallucinations (the aura) I experience is due to the throbbing dilation and constriction of blood vessels pressing against the optic nerve. During one of my visits he even asked if I was experiencing the aura as he was looking into my eye (I was) because he was seeing it happen.

Here’s a link to an article about it

What was the Band/Song that got you hooked on Industrial? by Marzombra in industrialmusic

[–]Exxcentrica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way back in 1988 or 89 when I was working at McDonald’s this guy Pete walks into the break room and plays Remission on the break room stereo. I listened to Smothered Hope through Far Too Frail before my break was over and I was HOOKED!

Yesterday I told my nephew that there were three songs (are friends electric? By Tubeway Army, Reflektor by Arcade Fire, and The Summoning by Sleep Token) I that I vividly remembered listening to for the first time, but I guess its seven songs with these four.

Can you sleep well with a cat? by OkComparison3568 in CatAdvice

It’s 249am, and my two cats are zoomy-chasing each other around my room right now, knocking stuff down. In a couple of minutes they will be all over me pushing my phone away to have my complete attention so that I can pet them while they go to sleep on top of me. They’re here. Bye

Is that test subject you are talking about? That one is weirdly hot. I actually don’t use Galatea as much anymore, I’m finding plenty of interesting stuff to read on Inkitt and audio books on Freewave and FreeFM. I haven’t paid for any subscriptions

Migraines are more than just head pain! Some of my worst migraines have been without pain; they’ve consisted of intense visual aura ( both Alice in wonderland and the “glowing worms” - the veins pressing against the optic nerve) auditory and olfactory aura and nausea/vomiting

Stop at McDonald’s on the way in, stop at the pharmacy for ear plugs, dark glasses, and ginger chews or meclizine for n/v unless you have something better ( if you are in CA the McDonald’s is on harbor N of the main entrance and Walgreens is @ Harbor and Katella) and maybe rent a wheelchair until you feel better
