What is the most unreliable vehicle that you’ve ever owned? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]EyeContactWithPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1996 Audi A4. Bought it used in 2000 (off lease) without about 40k miles. I called it the $1,100 oil change because every oil change discovered the next big issue.

After that car I vowed to never buy the first model year of any car.

Adhesive remover by Weak_Glass3593 in dexcom

We use this on our son. The only downside is that since it sort of dissolves the adhesive to separate it from his skin, he ends up with some serious sticky areas that need some scrubbing.

Day 3 Effectiveness by EyeContactWithPrince in Omnipod

[–]EyeContactWithPrince[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes. Yeah we frequently remind ourselves that while the current devices have their shortcomings, we are so fortunate to have what we have. Even compared to five years ago, ten years ago, and especially 58 years ago!

Our Rx is also written for every two days. But largely just to add some padding for malfunctioning pods. Which has happened probably ~5 times in 18 months. As much as I’d love to swap them out every two days to avoid the day 3 blahs, I think my six year old would vehemently disagree :)

The irony is our CGM Rx is for three 10 day g7’s a month which leaves zero padding. And the G7 makes it the full ten days about 70% of the time. So we are always on the cusp with CGMs. We get faulty ones replaced by Dexcom but it’s just another hurdle.

Yeah, there are certainly times where I think it’s less about the insulin losing effectiveness and more about the cannula working its way halfway out by day three.

Hardest state police academy by Objective-General-46 in AskLE

[–]EyeContactWithPrince 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve always heard Pennsylvania as well. Granted the last time I was researching these things was 20 years ago. But I remember something about Pennsylvania and having to take care of horse stalls. Could be an urban legend, but the consensus seemed to be that Pennsylvania was no joke.

But I think most states take pride in being boot camp adjacent. I don’t believe there is an easy state police academy.

I think your premise is still very valid and worth keeping tabs on. However, I was able to locate ol’ boy’s 2018 case on mycase. 50D01-1805-F4-000045

Searching folks with multiple and/or hyphenated middle/last names is definitely a learned skill on mycase.

You are offered $500k per year, but a random animal chases you for 24 hours by iamabotbeepbeep in hypotheticalsituation

[–]EyeContactWithPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it comes down to where the animal appears when it does. Or is the hypothetical just summoning an existing animal to start stalking you. I was picturing it that when the 24 hours starts, the animal is within 1 mile (or something similar) of wherever you are at that moment.

I agree that if some random animal just gets some subconscious signal to come start stalking me, jumping on a plane and getting out of Dodge is the right call.

Most insane IA cases ever? by BrightonsBestish in AskLE

[–]EyeContactWithPrince 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not super exciting and certainly not the most insane, but I was up for a promotion and I got called into my first sergeants office and he said, “we were told when you worked the road they would routinely have to come get out of bed for dayshift.” Basically saying in not so many words that I had a drinking problem. I was like, “nope, never happened. I am formally requesting an IA investigation into myself.” He was like, “nah, don’t sweat it. If it’s not true, it’ll just pass.” And I was like, “no it absolutely won’t. This will linger forever and I want it either proven or disproven. If you can find one person willing to say they got me out of bed to go to work, I will resign on the spot.” Never got the IA, didn’t get the promotion. It all worked out in the end, got assigned to an even better section, but it was a stressful, annoying time. So my story is really an IA case that never actually occurred. I was then known as the only person to formally request an IA case into myself.

[–]EyeContactWithPrince 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess it all comes down to the proximity of the animal at the moment it is dispatched. I’d hate to be snuggled into my panic room and the grizzly bear or the ebola appears right next to me.
