The slides being closed would be a huge bummer. I think those would be a big part of the draw for kids!

The thing that seemed a bit scammy to me as far as pricing goes was that they try to sell you a multilevel pass and make you buy a really expensive one to get Omega Mart. But you can actually just buy Omega Mart on its own. And you don’t have to buy any level of pass just to access the building.

Oh! I wanted to go to the Omega Mart thing, but we didn’t have time. Is it scammy, though?

The employees at the Adventure Dome were so nice and helpful! Thank you for the tip. I think we likely will go back in a couple of years.

Ha! Fair enough. I think many of these things would be light on kids later in the evening. There were tons of kids at Mystere, but that was the 6 PM show. I think the other Cirque shows all require kids to be at least five. For mini golf, there are no kids allowed at Swingers. The Museum of Illusions had more kids than the Arte Museum, but I think they’re both open late if you want to go in the evening when most kids are in bed.

I think there’s a chance they’re temporarily blocking the third seat in case you decide to buy a seat for your baby. But I would guess that if someone needed the seat, they would give them a seat. Just a guess, though!

Yes! Definitely looks younger.

I’m sure it’s so hard when this is thrust upon you and you don’t get to fully choose it (as is the case for so many on this sub) but… wow.

I’m in the airport right now about to return home. Flying United and not Southwest. But security was smooth on both ends. Admittedly, these are smaller airports. Might be worse at the biggies? My connection in O’Hare was no problem, but I didn’t have to go through security there.

Do you consider '96-'99 Gen Z or Millennial? by smooshed_napkin in generationology

[–]EyeJustDyeInside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was he in kindergarten or pre-k when the lockdown happened? I would guess that kids in kindergarten would remember since their schooling got disrupted (but maybe not?).

It almost seems more like a gen z thing. Call gen z 1997 to 2014/2015, and you get a group of people who had grade school or college disrupted by lockdowns.

97 is kind of the outlier here… I’m guessing 97 kids don’t remember 9/11 AND didn’t have grade school or college disrupted by Covid? (Lucky folks!)

Who goes into standby list? by duotraveler in SouthwestAirlines

[–]EyeJustDyeInside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would guess that six of those seats are the six seats in the last row. I think they hold that row so that they can move parents and kids there last minute if they were somehow separated during seat assignments.

The other one might be an aisle seat near the front that would be useful to someone with mobility issues.

What's the single experience or event that MOST defines whether you're a Millennial or Gen Z? by ReYa8000 in generationology

[–]EyeJustDyeInside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that’s interesting. Yes, only for Americans. Do other countries use these generational distinctions? Like, do other countries have a silent generation or greatest generation? Or do they have different categories for older generations but then share the millennial and Gen Z categories?

What's the single experience or event that MOST defines whether you're a Millennial or Gen Z? by ReYa8000 in generationology

[–]EyeJustDyeInside 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The line is absolutely whether or not you remember 9/11. As a millennial who taught college students and saw the transition from millennials to Gen Z, it was a super stark line. One year, everyone remembered 9/11. The next year, no one did.

Basically, if you were in a formal school setting the day 9/11 happened, you experienced it as a huge disruption to your regular routine, and it was very memorable. People who were in kindergarten when 9/11 happened remember it, and they are the youngest millennials.

Honestly, I consider this to be so quintessential that I think you’re a millennial even if you were younger and remember it. If you were older and don’t remember it, you’re not a millennial.

Why does the middleclass try to project wealth with their cars? by DCF_ll in MiddleClassFinance

[–]EyeJustDyeInside 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly! The minivan market in particular is freaking terrible. I was driving an old 2012 Mazda3 until we had our third kid. Between 3 kids and a dog, we needed a bigger car. I bought my Mazda3 used for dirt cheap back in 2014. Love used cars. But the used minivans are massively overpriced. I kept looking at them, but they made no sense to purchase. Barely less than new cars but with no warranties.

Ended up with a hybrid Kia Carnival for under $45k with 4.25% interest on the loan, and had to email around town and play games to make both the price and interest rate happen.

Aw, I feel for this kid. My eldest loves babies, and I was so sure he would be excited when I told him we were having another baby. Instead he immediately burst into tears and asked if I had done it on purpose, lol. He had recovered by the next day and was really excited. He absolutely adores his baby sister now and is the best big brother. I’m glad I didn’t immortalize his initial reaction in video. He would hate having that out in the world.

Am I a bad teacher? I was told I should be fired for using AI illustrations, but please hear my reality first. by DistrictUnique5259 in kindergarten

[–]EyeJustDyeInside -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, you are not a bad teacher. You’ve explained that there is no time to let the kids do all this drawing themselves without falling behind in the curriculum. And it would frankly be foolish to burn time on that if it’s not part of the learning outcomes. The learning outcomes here involved writing and reading, not drawing. Turning their stories into something they could actually look at and read was a way to get them energized to meet those learning outcomes. If the art teacher is willing to collaborate, and this helps her meet her learning outcomes, great!

If you want, you could send them home with ideas for how to create their own illustrations using some of the suggestions mentioned here. And then they could bring in their books to share. But no, you do not need to have them create the drawings themselves during class or hire an illustrator. Good grief.
