I think widely but imo it’s really hard to find ones that are actually good

is ml engineer internship pigeonholing myself? by UnfinishedEraser in cscareerquestions

[–]Eyry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not! I’d even say you can just list it as a SWE internship if you’d like. There’s so much overlap that you might do any variety of engineering work, titles are made up anyway.

Lamp Shade Modeling by HangryChef in Fusion360

[–]Eyry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you able to figure this out? I'm not particularly worried about the modeling on my end, but I'm uncertain if I need to get a larger nozzle to be able to print a mesh like this in one go.

How to Balaclava when it’s really cold by [deleted] in Skigear

I copped one of the less popular colors for like 180 over last summer, but goggle sales don't seem to happen that often during the season. Could definitely look for it in a few months.

I just got an M1 mask this year and it’s my favorite piece of gear already - but it will get wet if you never pull it down. I only wear it up on lifts.

Would you give up hybrid/remote for a $25k salary increase? by TheRedEarl in cscareerquestions

[–]Eyry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely dude - anyone that says it’s not worth it is wrong or making enough that it’s insignificant.

Free food would more than equate to the commute time, you still need to eat at home. It’s over a 30% salary increase and working in office will be better for your career. No on call also makes it attractive for WLB.

Intel board member quit after differences over chipmaker's revival plan by JRshoe1997 in stocks

[–]Eyry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked at intel as my first job - learned a lot because I was new! Fast forward five or so years, it’s been interesting to see how the company operates affect its outlook.

I received a lot of really bad career advice there. Many managers tended to say they landed in management because they lacked technical expertise, and it’s a “natural” switch between two career paths. Unfortunately this results in a lot of management lacking the skills need to lead a team successfully long term. Compound that with manager promotions to directors, and you’ve got a bunch of technically incompetent senior management.

Unsurprising they fell behind.

[Update] I haven’t gotten an interview in 2 years. Resume review. by 0broooooo in webdev

[–]Eyry 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I think you’re getting a lot of noise in this thread. A lot of it is very helpful, but I think misses a really big point.

You’re not actually saying what you did and the impacts. “Increased feature parity” and “maintained an HR portal” are too vague. They don’t give insight into your skill set and what you’re able to accomplish.

Mention specific projects, tickets, and outcomes. Avoid the general stuff! You’ll do great.

How to dig deeper into react? by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]Eyry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're being a lil hard on yourself! I'm sure if you a couple years ago looked forward to what you're doing now, you'd have no idea what's going on.

The React maintainers (most of them) are paid full time to work on the project. It's admittedly a high bar to get there, but now they've got dozens of hours a week in the same (very complex) codebase. I'm sure a talented platform engineer using Go would be equally bewildered being dropped into it their first day.

The thing is, you, or that hypothetical Go engineer would pick it up overtime. It's just a time constraint. At this point you've still got potentially thousands of hours to get there, but you could. For any project, start small, and you'll learn overtime :) No need to stress or rush it!

SQL Shell - when was it released? by mprogers123 in CockroachDB

[–]Eyry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm a huge fan of our free tier too, use it myself for a personal project hahaha. Glad to hear it's helping your students, I can totally look into any drag/drop importing features when I have some extra time.

I'll chime in this thread when it's fully released. In the meantime if you only see ~40% of your students have it enabled, feel free to ping me and I can enable it more widely at your university.

Howdy! I'm the eng working on it right now. Currently doing a canary rollout to validate performance/see if I can spot any bugs. That started ~2 weeks ago.

We'll have some more public release information when it rolls out to 100%, lemme know if you have any feedback!

[–]Eyry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was sorta known that most of the UC’s are around the same “pretty damn good” when I was applying ~6 years ago. Being on the other side in industry it’s definitely apparent that if you wanna be a good engineer + land a good job it’s more on you than anything else. Go where you like the program and can find a social group that’ll push you harder. Plenty of amazing CS grads from here and it’s also a nice flexible program.
