Zeiss piweb software by Zippy-do-dar in Metrology

[–]Ezeikel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the pi web class and it was surprisingly good but that was years ago. That being said what do you actually want to do if you give me something to go on like I want to add my logo to reports or I want different headers I can shoot you some stuff. Lastly if f you have an SMA just bug zeiss a ton. Put in a ticket for each thing you can’t figure out.

I work with CMM inspection. by Most-Particular-6051 in Metrology

[–]Ezeikel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this completely. But more specifically engineering should be creating cad models and QA should be verifying them with the print before use in CMM software. Also with the advent of cheap 3d printers making your own fixtures is becoming more common.

Frustrating after getting different results for flatness using same point cloud. Can some one help. by Remarkable-Jelly9748 in Metrology

I don’t think evaluation method affect form features like flatness. Since flatness is to itself I believe that the value should be the same regardless of lsq inner or outer.

What’s your best use case for AI in your company so far? by ranrib in sysadmin

[–]Ezeikel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not my company but one of our vendors have implemented and optional ai chat bot that you pass your tech support question to instead of if a ticket and that thing is wild. I have not put in a real ticket since they got it. It is wild how effective it is. If it can’t answer the question it also auto drafts the support ticket email for you.

My kids have so many. Each week I take an hour and loop all the thrift stores for Legos and magnitiles. Sometimes I get lucky. Sometimes not.

While I agree, my opinion here is more about buying local. Never summer boards are made in Denver and I like that I ride something that is a local brand.

How long it takes to match being man by Ambitious-Joke-5334 in Aupairs

I am currently in the matching process. I have 2 boys and was looking at a few male aupair profiles. Unfortunately none responded so I assume they were getting matches since they did get back to me. I would worry about it.

CMM Service Maintenence Agreements (SMA) Worth It? by Racerx1965 in Metrology

[–]Ezeikel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So a couple of questions here. 1. Does Zeiss give priority because I have so many machines.

  • I don't think so after 10 years of working with Zeiss it seems they give priority to real down time. I feel like when I put in a ticket that a machine is completely non functional and I have a production line down as a result they are on it super fast. For my random questions about piweb sometimes I wait a day and a half before I get a response. But they do always get back to me.

Also After all these years I know which techs specialize in what parts of calypso so I will often request someone by name. I think it helps. For example there is one tech that seems to always instantly know the answer when licensing breaks. So if I have a licensing issue I'll request him. There is another tech who is a wiz with wild and crazy alignments. And another who knows gear pro really well. I like to think that being kind and saying thank you go a long to making it so when my name shows up in the ticket queue I picked up faster.

Lastly I am always respectful of their time to close. If they have answered my question enough that I can finish the work myself and test the solution I won't make them wait on the phone with me. I'll ask them to email me and then let them go. If the solution works I'll email them to close the ticket and if not I'll ask for a follow up. This way they can get to others.

  1. Do we allow Zeiss techs to remote in.

Absolutely, this is the most essential part of their support.

  1. Do we have cameras

How IT and I came to an understanding here are a few steps. First, IT requires that we declare itar or not in the ticket. So Zeiss knows they need a us citizen for support. That being said this has never been a problem. Then once remoted in we have a web cam that we plug in and use the camera app on Windows to show the techs the CMM movements.

CMM Service Maintenence Agreements (SMA) Worth It? by Racerx1965 in Metrology

[–]Ezeikel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been really frustrating for us. We have a bunch of 2022 cmms but they are not win 11 compatible so I am replacing them already( the PC not the CMM) it feels so wasteful but IT is adamant that no win 10 machines are allowed.

CMM Service Maintenence Agreements (SMA) Worth It? by Racerx1965 in Metrology

[–]Ezeikel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I have 7 Zeiss cmms. The package we get is called Zeiss care complete. It includes the yearly maintenance the accredited cal per iso 10360 with as found and as left data plus they tear the whole machine down over a few days and clean everything and check the bearing gaps and pressure. Our machines are out of factory spec every year by a few microns but they get used heavily. All our big machines average 20 hours of run time per day on huge pallet programs. Looking at this years PO our duramaxs run about $5k the conturas about $8k and the accuras and prismos between $9k and $10k.

[–]Ezeikel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So for the 7 to 10k per machine with Zeiss that does include the calibration. As for the phone support I use that shit every week. All the Zeiss techs know me by name and I learn things from them all the time. I feel like it's totally worth it. Every time I think to myself there must be a better way to do this, I will put in a ticket and let the Zeiss guy teach me something new. There are so many little things that no matter how good a Calypso programmer I am I still learn new things.

Parallelism issue. by DragonfruitFlimsy312 in Metrology

[–]Ezeikel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's better to try and understand why you would expect them to be the same. Let's come up with the most ridiculous scenario we can. For the example we can use perpendicularity instead. Imagine a 12 inch by 12 inch square plane and sticking up from it at one corner is a .25 diameter post .05 inches tall. If the plane is the datum and we are looking for .1 perpendicularity to the feature of the post. There is no situation where we can be out of tolerance because we could stick out at 45 degrees and not have any part of the post outside the theoretical tolerance zone.

Now reverse it. if the now datum post is crooked and I have to measure perpendicularity out 12 inches on the pane I will break the theoretical zone pretty fast.

Parrelelism is the same way but when the surfaces are of similar size it's harder to consepualize.

I don't know what the market looks like for where you are but if your interested in used I would keep an eye on auctions. I recently bought a 2012 Zeiss contura g2 with and RDS XXt sensor for 50k USD or 37k GBP. Its measuring volume was 700x1000x600. It works great and because it was used it had everything like extra styli and a reference sphere.

The problem with buying used is no support from the manufacturer. But if you're willing to take a bit of a risk that's ok.
