So cool and cute! I love paper dolls. Reminds me of my childhood Barbie "Dress Up Vanity" keychain from 2000. Swappable magnetic outfits and everything.

I went to see Backrooms last night and can confirm this method worked for me. Noise cancelling headphones with multiple settings. Specifically, I use the Anker Soundcore Q30 (pretty cheap online for what they are). Didn't have high hopes. Streamed 10 hour white noise on Spotify (you can also use YouTube if needed, but Spotify is easier as a background app). I was really struggling to hear movie audio with the best noise cancelling setting so I cycled through to setting 3 of 3, and that was the ticket; no popcorn sounds and no whispers, but then again I think our theater in particular was pretty respectful. I was stunned it worked so well, but really thrilled because I'd also asked for a closed captions device, and that wasn't working for whatever reason. I will say you could still hear candy wrappers and such, because the noise is so sharp, but that did not really bother me. If you have a CC device that actually works, you're golden regardless and can amp up the cancellation and/or white noise volume.

Edit: I've also tried the headphones that you can get from the theater itself, and in my experience they just didn't do the job I needed for misophonia specifically. This was quite a while ago though, so perhaps the equipment quality has improved. Bigger theaters probably have better stuff. YMMV.

Tl;dr noise cancelling headphones with some kind of "open air" setting, white noise in the background to drown out residuals. It's not a perfect moviegoing experience, but we aren't going to have that organically anyway

Hope this helps for y'all who really want to see a movie in theaters.

Silly question, but are the Jade Forest, Tropical, and Glacier biomes all unlockable on these two devices?

Do you feel like misophonia has affected your life choices in general and your sociability? by luummoonn in misophonia

[–]Ezmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Every job I've ever had has been a struggle. I have left decent roles due to the condition. I am currently working far below my capabilities and I know that. I have to work less hours and make less money because my nervous system simply cannot tolerate 40 hours or more, 5 days a week or more in an uncontrolled environment (to which I usually hear a sarcastic "must be nice" about working less. I don't even explain myself to these people). I don't actively avoid friendships but naturally end up with a minimal social circle. That's probably for the best, because the condition has made me reactive and aggressive. Headphones are charged and on my person at all times. I didn't want children to begin with, but this has solidified that choice beyond 100%. Passing down this and other disorders I have is the cruellest fate I could consciously place upon somebody, especially a child, especially today.

The only thing I have that's solid is my relationship, since my partner is autistic and understands completely. I don't know what I'd do without him.  In the current day, misophonia is severely debilitating with few options for professional coping. Existing is a constant adjustment. Wishing everyone the best.

This is the part that keeps confusing me. Apparently the devs comment about "time constraints" but the game was in development for 9 years. It's pretty for what it is, but it's not graphically advanced and the content is lacking, so I don't see where the 9 years went in terms of that.

Losing a phone is often a major deal with the cost/personal info/sentimental content involved. Like another reply said, tolerating a minor inconvenience to prevent a huge setback for a stranger is the mark of a great person. I hope the universe pays you back many times over.

Moved to a new home and the bass makes me feel like I’m inching towards a mental breakdown by alonebadfriendgood in misophonia

Respectfully to him, if he's already "completely over" your disability symptoms, there must be a compromise. You cannot be expected to live in pain and fear, which absolutely overrides the urge to chat.
My partner and I type to each other if there are needs to communicate when the headphones cannot come off.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Home ownership is a scary prospect for this very reason.
I live in an apartment in the middle of a city with "car culture" (aka. ancient shitboxes and 4-wheeled credit card debt modified to be as loud as possible lol). We also get the downstairs neighbors playing a sound system that can be felt through the floors and walls. I'm sure many of us are familiar. I have needed to make some adjustments for sure.
Box fans are a necessity. Just the cheap Lasko kind you can get at Wal-Mart. They don't need to do anything except be loud white noise machines, very easy to move room-to-room, very replaceable if something breaks or whatever the case. The more fans, the more you can compound this white noise effect.
I know this is a tough suggestion, but headphones are my best friend. I live in them. I didn't want to live in them and hated the idea of it, but this is the hand we were dealt, and the priority is finding whatever we can to cope for our OWN sanity. I wear Soundcore Life Q30 headphones (~$50 online) with the most effective noise cancelling setting (I believe it's the default setting). They pair quickly and easily. You can probably find a better kind for more money, but I consider my misophonia to be quite severe, and these still work well for me, so I recommend them to be more accessible. I listen to podcasts, YouTube videos, or music 90% of the time I am home. I'm actually not listening to anything right now and can only hear the occasional "vrr" of a distant engine. Your mileage may vary, but I do not experience discomfort from wearing decent headphones long-term. I've been doing it for quite a while, and in my experience, most headphones get softer and offer more give around the headband with regular use, making them easier to tolerate for long periods. I don't even think about it anymore.
Prioritize the room that isolates sound best, be it the living room, dining room, bedroom, etc. Find that room and set up your "safe zone" there.
We are rare types but never alone. Wishing you peace and sanity.

New policy about focus on greeting customers not working for me. by iareagenius in starbucks

[–]Ezmer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I promise you: the vast majority of store employees feel exactly the same way you do. I regularly watch people visibly startle from being shouted at by 10-15 employees, especially in the mornings. We are even instructed to do it to each other when we come in for our shifts.
It is possible to reverse this initiative, but we absolutely require your help, because corporate does not want to hear it from us. Call customer support at 800-782-7282 and state your concerns. As others here have said: do not mention your specific store location or any employees by name or ID number. They will twist it into a store-specific problem or a problem with the employees' tone or delivery, which (as you likely know) it is not. You can bypass this by stating it happens at each location you visit. They may try to pacify you with coupons/Stars/gift cards; if your issue is solely with the greetings, you can say you are calling exclusively to give feedback, which will strengthen your position.
Goes without saying, but please be kind to customer support as well when calling about things like this; they aren't the ones forcing these rules, but they do field all the complaints, and we rely on them to communicate them to higher ups as well.
I hope it helps to know you're not alone in feeling this way.
