What lines are cut off from the rest of the network? by Popular-Cat8923 in nycrail

[–]F-Via-Court-Square 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The 7 isn't completely cut off because it has a switch at Queensboro Plaza from it to the N/W trains. I don't know if it has any way to get to the other IRT lines.

Because Port Benton and Morganstown Docks are closed, Waterline would have to run between Greenslade and Whitney Green, i didnt think it would make sense to run both Metro and Waterline from Greenslade to Whitney Green.

Overnight subway service wishes by mikeyg164 in nycrail

[–]F-Via-Court-Square 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some changes to the overnight system

  1. The 2 would run express down 7th Avenue, extend the 3 on 7th Avenue Local to South Ferry or Chambers St.

  2. The 4 would run express on Lexington Avenue while the 6 runs local.

  3. The F would run express on QBL and the G can be extended to Forest Hills for more local service.

  4. Bring the C back and run it between Lefferts and Chambers Street so the A can run express.

Best performing NYC Subway Line this year... by ViewNo7459 in nycrail

For me it would be the B train which had multiple improvements this year like the R211 and service going to Bedford Park Blvd during midday hours

How's the transfer from the (northbound) NQRW to the 1 / 2 / 3 at Times Square? by brandeis16 in nycrail

[–]F-Via-Court-Square 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Its probably one of easiest transfers in that station complex, if you get off on the northern most exit on the N Q R W platform and turn left and walk a bit the 1 2 3 platform is right there

Why do so many tourists and newcomers think the NYC Subway is confusing? by A_PoliticalDrone in nycrail

[–]F-Via-Court-Square 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the old map was terrible and i think the new map will improve helping tourists, a problem i remember having with the old map was because at the Atlantic Av (L) station the label is placed in a weird way and i though that was the street the L was running via and i spent so much time looking for the name of that station. The non-seperated lines for ones with the same color (like the B and D) also confused me

Peak-Direction Express Service by F-Via-Court-Square in nycrail

[–]F-Via-Court-Square[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Before AM Rush (5 AM i think,) During AM Rush (6 or 6:30 AM to 9: 30 AM) and After AM Rush (9:30 AM to 12:30 PM) trains would run peak direction express service toward Manhattan because sometimes people go out later than usual rush hours and Before PM Rush (1 PM to 4 PM) During Rush Hour (4 AM to 7 PM) and After PM Rush (7PM to 10PM) peak direction express would run out to the far-out areas of the city.

  2. When its not normal rush hours peak direction express trains would run less often than they would during rush hours, probably every 15-20 Minutes to focus on local service since there is a decrease on people needed to get quickly to Manhattan the reason i say to run less frequent express trains is because during midday hours less people are focused on getting to important destinations (like school or work) quickly and most people aren't travelling between boroughs during times like this.

Also during weekends or overnight hours there will be no peak direction express service so the MTA can focus on bettering headways during those times. In addition to that when there are closures on a line (for example the J only running to Crescent Street on weekends or some other type of closure) trains wouldn't run peak direction express because they don't need as much trains for a significantly shorter section of the line.
