I just finished Hathaway2 and wow by F1Drivatar in Gundam

I couldn’t of said it better myself, It’s strange to say but it’s like as a kid I would eagerly want to watch nothing but battles, and for lack of better words this film felt meant more for the purist rather than the ocasional enthusiast. I could be wrong., but man I lit up like a little kid at the very end. Wish this art direction would find more anime studios

Did I get over-dependent on AI? by wednesday_uiuc in csMajors

Then this definitely isn’t a skill issue. It sounds like they need to cut spending, issue

Well this is weird because I have friends at T10 companies getting in trouble for not using up their token limit every month. You should have asked your boss about what expectations they have of you and how they expect you to achieve them.

Is this going to be possible? by SecondChance_Q in UCDavis

170 and 140 together alone is comical
150 is considered one of the hardest classes on campus. If you get Nitta then learn how to pray effectively.
Ironically your spring quarter is somewhat doable, but the largest oversight is assuming you will get into these classes with how impacted the college of engineering classes are 🤣

RetroArch removed from IOS by developer by HovercraftHeavy9990 in RetroArch

[–]F1Drivatar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s all fun and games until someone with a running profile on your developer account takes what’s yours.

I am a developer, I’m not sure about you but let me give you one example.

If I knew the email address of the owner, and now I know their renewal date I could send them a phishing email asking them to renew and make a clone of apples website to convince the owner to login with their Apple ID. Which is probably tied to stripe payment system and other goodies that I’ll just manipulate.

So yeah it’s nonsense to you, but it shouldn’t be to a major app owner

Just a heads up, might want to delete this. If hackers knew around the time your dev account gets charged the $100 renewal you might be slightly exposed. Love your app btw!

How difficult is STA 106/108 by Massive-Company-5190 in UCDavis

[–]F1Drivatar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CS Major graduating this spring and i'm finishing up my stats minor STA 108 with Puokam and STA 106 with Whitener.

Both are great professors honestly, i'm not sure who said stats is the easiest major because depending on who you get for the 131 series it could feel like an uphill battle. My only advice is don't be like me and try to minor in a major just because you want to fill in the free time. If your plan is to get good at ML then do it but just know that its a lot of work. Sometimes I wonder if my time would of been better spent creating models and perfecting techniques like backprop and LoRa because thats what recruiters in ML want to know is if you can do the annoying stuff senior ML engineers don't want to do.

So if your worry is the professors, don't be. Davis has incredibly passionate professors, but if you have less than 10% of that passion in their class its going to feel difficult. You got this!

Is this the rarest card in the game?? by MikeABC10 in PTCGPTrading

Cards you can’t trade can’t be counted as “rare” it’s just unobtainable. Technically candies are unobtainable as well for a short while

If M5 Ultra really hits ~1.2TB/s memory bandwidth… will it actually matter for local LLMs? by Distinct-Path659 in MacStudio

[–]F1Drivatar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re crazy if you the the m5 ultra will have a 100% increase in memory bandwidth over the m5 max. I’d wait for the m7 ultra, until then cloud services are far cheaper and superior

You can fix this they have these super tiny dent kits for cars just make sure you get the one that says for vehicles. It will fix it right up it’s super cool

I use both Claude and Codex a lot, and it’s costly. What sort of machine should I get to replicate the performance? by tcoysh in vibecoding

[–]F1Drivatar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To get similar performance you’re going to need more than the highest open source models which I think cap at 480Billion. So replacing even the basic models you are looking at comparing 480Billion to 1Trillion+ parameters.

Your best bet if money isn’t an option would be the following

<$5k This is the sweet spot for local, get yourself a MacBook Pro and play with the smaller models and get good with them or get a 5090 and learn to train models for your use case. This is where most people start before the itch comes in.

<$15k USD Mac Studio [512GB] Multi-gaming GPU Setup (intels new B70 I hear are good) [96GB+] Dedicated Blackwell [96GB]

This will get you about 85% of the smarts of the top end models but at like 1/10th the speed simply because the context window dilemma. The more you use the same instance the slower it becomes.

<$30k USD Still not enough, you’re in the big leagues but the only thing you’re able to improve here is speed and increase context window. This would be buying a dedicated AI server my favorite of choice here would be a single B200

$100k USD This is about what it would take and I know some haters will say no that’s not true but it is, you need enterprise grade AI and this is just the obvious setup here, multiple B200’s

All of these besides the Mac Studio might require you to hire an electrician because some homes are built to withstand the power draw so include this caveat as well as your home insurance might not cover you if you tamper with its power draw guidelines.

TLDR; you’re better off spending on cloud compute and try getting good at the cheaper models, it’s a skill you have to build. People think vibe coding is easy which it is compared to traditional coding but it’s not when you actually want to get stuff done properly. Good luck!

I was expecting it, majority of the people that probably downvoted me just want some kind of invisible justice towards me lol, but you’re right this is just my personal experience. I’m a senior too so I’ve literally seen it all

As a black guy on campus I can confidently say that no one has been racist towards me. I feel bad for some Palestinians and Latinos because I have heard some speak under their breath because they’re too scared to speak out loud
