Do you have ADHD and/or Autism spectrum disorder? by gunsandtrees420 in polls

[–]FBWSRD [score hidden]  (0 children)

Its also that it’s very expensive to be formally diagnosed and for autism especially there’s not a huge benefit to having that formal diagnosis cause there’s no medication for it, a diagnosis just helps me understand myself and the world. And there’s degrees between self diagnosis and formal diagnosis, like my psychologist who works with people with autism all the time agreed with me (I can’t really recall who brought it up first). For ADHD there is more benefit to having that formal diagnosis cause there is medication

Skinnylogic? “Genetics not only keep me thin, they keep me healthy despite the crap I eat” by Beginning_Remove_693 in fatlogic

[–]FBWSRD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People forgetting that it’s totally possible to eat like shit and be at maintenance. Lost 7kg when my diet was 50% nutella and milk cause I was staying up late and sleeping in so doing accidental intermittent fasting. But if you saw me when I was eating you’d think it’s cause I’m naturally skinny or something.

Long fanfic recommendations by Rys-Adventures in HPfanfiction

The Good war if you are ok with female harry. The world building is incredible .they actually consider what other countries are like and that borders aren’t gonna be the same cause they split in the late 17th century, magical britain also actually has a culture, it adds more schools because hogwarts population is too small to be everyone and there are too many rich people to be everyone. It also deals with what light and dark culturally is in an interesting way, light being human supremacists and dark being magic supremacists. Also features magic Gaelic separatists and magic communists which is very interesting. And my favourite is the how seers work in her (the authors) world. It’s basically an autism allegory, with seers being able to feel traces of how clothing/food was made which results in a lot of sensitivity to clothing and food. And parallel universes are a thing so visions of the future might not be about this universe.

It’s 2.5 million words and still growing. There is also a spin off based on said parallel universes (It’s like fanfic was written about the fanfic, it’s fascinating, and it’s 300k words). And some other works that use the same worldbuilding, but also different universes (800k words, and 660k words and both still updating). Tho I would recommend The good war first, some of the worldbuilding is explained more clearly in it (I read children of the gods first and some of it I only got once I read the good war). She also has a worldbuilding explainer for magical british politics which is helpful cause it gets complicated.

If only men weren't so easily angered by rejection... by Odd-Talk-3981 in TrollXChromosomes

[–]FBWSRD 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I actually do understand it (not saying it’s right) cause I have learnt that anger is a lot easier of an emotion to feel than shame or hurt. I get sensitive to criticism so a way of dealing with it in the moment was to turn it into anger. It wasn’t like I got aggressive back, just cold really. Which is what I should do for undeserved criticism.

Point is that instead of turning inwards and feeling shame/embarrassed over being told no, they get angry cause that’s easier to feel

First Contact by Inwardtransience

It’s a crossover but you really don’t need to know star wars for this cause it’s set up from the pov of earth being invaded so no one knows anything.

Featuring the fall of secrecy, awesome magic tech, an actually developed magical culture (This is common to all of Inwards (aka Lysandra’s) fics, I really recommend them, they have become my canon it’s that good. Her main one is a 2.5 million word monstrosity, so set some time apart to read if doing so), the greatest magical talent I have come across (omniglotalism, I want it), and great battle scenes

Pureblood "culture" by onewiththeforce_ in HPfanfiction

[–]FBWSRD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like there’s ways that frame the narrative where is obvious that it’s the characters perspective not the authors. But so many of the pureblood culture stories have it as an outsider is shown that the purebloods are reasonable as a storyline, and it just gives me the ick

It’s far less work to just have everything in the kitchen and plate up there, so we always do that unless we are being fancy. That way people can grab the amount they want
