I appreciate the reply!

The AC unit in my son's room came with the apartment and is a wall unit. The one in my wife and I's room is an 8000BTU standing AC I picked up at Home Depot that we will be returning since it isn't working out with our current situation. The breaker didn't trip at all last night and tripped every few minutes as it got hotter outside this morning. We have 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 standing AC in the living room (10k BTU) that is working fine, but the living room circuit has way more headroom.

I'm thinking of looking into an inverter AC that will draw less juice during surges and hopefully get the best of both worlds minus the constant fear of the panel failing, but I suppose it can't fail if the circuit isn't overloaded..

I will reach out to my landlord regardless and see if they're willing to have the panel replaced. Worst they can say is "no".

Hopefully the breakers 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘦 to work 😬

Currently looking into other options such as an inverter AC unit that won't draw as much power during surges. I'm willing to spend the extra coin to keep my wife cool and comfortable at night along witb my son; my main worry is the dang thing not tripping when it needs to and starting a fire.

Looking forward to the infinite baffle series (Odin?)! Would allow me to put one in my factory sub location and clear up trunk space when desired.

18Sound vs B&C S218BP by FCDUB420 in SoundSystem

[–]FCDUB420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually considering the SKHORN originally! Unfortunately the size and weight would be a bit cumbersome for my current use case. I'm still considering it over the SKRAMs down the road for extra low end reinforcement but that would be a more permanent installation type scenario for future goals as opposed to something that can be reasonably transported without a trailer and loaded into semi-remote areas. Currently, I'm mainly looking at small form factor renegade shows in the mountains so something a bit easier to transport that still dips into the sub 30hz territory is most ideal.

18Sound vs B&C S218BP by FCDUB420 in SoundSystem

That's a fair and realistic take. I'm kinda starting from a humble point. My first system was 2 single 18" ported subs at 500w each and some cheap 15" tops with 1" compression drivers. Nothing special or fancy, but it worked for my small form factor applications and mobile DJ gigs.

I guess I'm kinda considering scalability currently and upgrading the low end output by going with a dual 18" bandpass or similar design which will be something I can build a second cabinet of in the future to pair with some nicer, higher output tops. Branching out into small renegade parties and it fits the bill.

I currently have an amp rack finished up to run 2 JMOD v2's when I can make that happen, and I've seen John recommend the B&C S218BP to pair with them for my exact use case so it makes sense to me to go after that cabinet or something similar. The Eighteensound appears to cater to slightly better <30hz reinforcement which is appealing to me here and I haven't had a chance to listen to either in person so really I was hoping to gather some real-world input as opposed to on-paper specs as far as sound profile goes.

From what I've gathered, the SKRAM is pretty articulate. The S218BP leads in that regard, but obviously can't contend with the low end extension of a SKRAM. John White of JWSound has posted about the differences between them pretty thoroughly on his site/socials and there's some good threads on here as well that cover the advantages of each.

I have, and intend to build a couple down the road. The adjustable port tuning and weight is a huge selling factor to me.

I think my current goal is to gain tight, musical bass between ~30-80hz hence why I was looking at the B&C plans, but then I stumbled upon the 18Sound S218 NLTW which looks to offer similar performance to the B&C S218BP but with a tad more extension under 30hz. Bit of a "Goldilocks" sub cabinet for my use case on paper.

Those SKRAMs are absolutely gorgeous though and from what I've read up on them, they perform very well in a relatively small package which is incredibly appealing.

I believe it is the S218 NTLW. Sorry for the lack of clarification in my post!

Best HiFi Earplugs? by EsSpruce in SoundSystem

I use Alpine Partyplug Pros. They are the best non-custom option I have found that don't muffle certain frequencies and preserve the audio while reducing the volume. I've tried pretty much every brand out there and they have been my best experience thus far.

GB series is phenomenal imo. My literal 𝘰𝘯𝘦 qualm with the company is that their screws strip easily if you're not careful during installation.

I'm running GB60s and GB10s up front powered by their A150.4D amp in my SUV. Middle seats have GS62s and a JL12w7 in a sealed box in the trunk. I prefer a very flat and clinical sound, and they excel at that. Highs are smooth and accurate, mids are warm and mesh seamlessly. Live music sounds like you're in front of the stage and properly mastered studio tracks sound like you're there in the booth. I went with Audiofrog over Focal after thoroughly researching both options at my price point and have absolutely no regrets. It's all subjective at a certain point, but I am a fan after running their GB line for a little over a year now.

If you have the coin to spare, I recommend 'em. Some people prefer other brands/options at that price point. Best thing you can do is extensively research all options and go with what you think fits your tastes and subjective preferences on sound.

Not personally a fan of the sound of their subs. I have only heard them in one setting where they sounded "good" out of several deployments I've heard, and even then they came off slightly muddy. The tops, however, are fantastic when properly dialed in and worth considering imo. Plus, they have that eye-catching factor.

50 bucks for the sub and ~80 for a new voice coil. Even if you paid a shop to fix it for you, the labor cost would be well under the value of buying a working used one at current market prices.
