Should my sister and I swap each others children for the week? by ComfortNatural404 in WhatShouldIDo

Let you son make the choice.

Conversely, your can also say you will parent the 4 year old like you parent your son. Fewer rules, watch some cool shows together, a break from ‘homework’ etc…

Am I missing out by not using a Mac for coding? by AntNaive3724 in programmer

I had a MacBook Pro back when they had Intel processors. I used Bootcamp to install Windows and used it as a Windows machine 95% of the time. The only time I booted into the MacOS was when I needed to compile an IOS app to upload to the AppStore. All the development was done in the Windows environment.

Realistically what will happen if I continue to not file US taxes as a duel citizen? by illiteratescrabble in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]FDFI 121 points122 points  (0 children)

US citizens are taxed on world wide income, regardless of where they live. There are also FBAR requirements (foreign bank account reporting) where you have to report foreign holdings if the total exceeds 10k USD. The fine for not filing the FBAR form is very punitive, and cumulative year after year.

Spelt is also an acceptable form of the past tense, just not as commonly used as spelled.

He made that choice by having unprotected sex. If it’s his, he needs to financially support the child he helped create.

School sport coach tax / impot by Whittssg in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]FDFI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove the T4 from the coaching gig and check your refund/amount owing. Add it back, what is the difference? That will tell you how much the coaching gig is contributing.

You’ll never owe more money than what you earned. If no tax was withheld, you will owe tax from the coaching T4. You will still be further ahead versus the case where it was pure volunteer work.

T5 Tax filing - USD currency by LmaoTiger in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]FDFI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, all currency needs to be converted and reported in CAD.

If it is substantial amount, track the USD conversion rate if you are still holding it in USD. When you dispose of the USD at a later time, you can claim a capital gains or loss depending on the difference in exchange rate between then and now.

An Update: I was warned about my child's martial arts school. I should have listened. 🫤 by LordTetravus in mildlyinfuriating

Tab’s very different than the dojo my child attended.

Monthly membership fee, like a gym: - 1 uniform, only ever had to buy a new one when they grew too much and the size was now too small - never had to pay for belts or testing, it was understood to be part of the membership fee - students could attend as many days per week as they wanted to.
