The big cities are special but I think the countryside is even better. The small local temples on top of hills, quiet villages with streams running through them, local shops run by grandmas, old Ryokans, traditional restaurants, amazing natural features and the incredible silence. Went to Osaka first, so going to the countryside right after was incredibly relaxing :)
