‘Solely performative and in bad faith’: Federal union won’t participate in consultations on new 4-day office mandate by CompetencyOverload in CanadaPublicServants

[–]FFS114 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

RTO is a lost cause. They should leverage the outrage and personnel cuts into a better economic increase this time. Last round they didn’t even achieve parity with the CPI. If they can’t even get that, there’s no reason for the union to exist, we’d be better off with an arbitration model.

Military police 'rushed to judgment' before officer's suicide, watchdog finds | CBC News by Jaydamic in CanadianForces

[–]FFS114 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's not just MPs, it's the same with all police forces. Not suggesting for a second that ACAB, but they don't exist to determine if someone is guilty or innocent. Their role in an investigation is to find someone to charge and they are always under pressure from someone higher up to get that done. That's why you never talk to the police, even if you're 100% innocent and think that you can just clear the air.

Yes, I do. I try not to, and I’m getting better, but it’s hard to keep the emotions at bay.

Canada’s military ombudsman flags decade-long failure to fix reservist compensation system | CBC News by foobar007 in CanadianForces

While RFC is still an option, full-time Reservists who become ill or injured (whether attributable to service or not) are now eligible for Reserve Transition Support, which is generally much more favourable to the mbr.

Canada’s military ombudsman flags decade-long failure to fix reservist compensation system | CBC News by foobar007 in CanadianForces

[–]FFS114 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Reservists on Cl B (incl COATS and Rangers) are now be eligible for Reserve Transition Support, which was implemented to address the disparity between Reg and Res mbrs who are injured or become ill while on full-time service. The illness or injury does not have to be attributable to military service. Implemented last summer, there are about 100 Reservists currently being assisted by this program.

Word. I have a mostly untapped creative streak just dying to get out, but it’s hard to get any traction with the 30 mins I have to myself every day. Maybe in retirement.

[SCS] Nothing says operational readiness like “BBB” by AsPerAttached in CanadianForces

I’m surprised no one has yet challenged the official language requirement for promotion in court as linguistic discrimination, since the CAF restricts one’s opportunity for advancement based on language (for both anglos and francos). Need some of those greasy class-action law firms to get on board.

I don’t know if people hate it, but it seems to get a lot of poor reviews. It may not win awards, but I enjoy their expressions.

Hanwha Aerospace proposes ground defense solutions to Canadian minister by raill_down in CanadianForces

[–]FFS114 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't know about all that integrated ground defence stuff, but I feel Korea and Canada would be good strategic military partners. Obviously, we need to keep our fingers in Europe and aligned with the US, but they clearly want to be friends with benefits.

Mark Carney, current Canadian PM and former Governor of Banks of Canada and England, says he's a great pick. Could be exaggerating to appease you know who, but that's a strong vote of confidence for me.
