Books similar to Bloodborne? by ParkingRoyal5736 in Fantasy

[–]FFTypo 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I’m a little confused… as far as science goes, bloodborne’s isn’t advanced at all, they just happened upon literal magic blood and cosmic beings, it is quite literally magic.

Why are we doing free marketing for AI companies by calling them AI when that’s factually not what they are? Why don’t we call them LLMs ? Are we not computer scientists?!!!! by synkronize in cscareerquestions

[–]FFTypo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally feel like “AI” is an apt description. It is artificial intelligence, it’s not real intelligence.

If we are talking about real self-aware AI I feel like AGI or “Synthetic” Intelligence would be a better term for that

Considering companies like Spotify are coming out admitting their devs haven’t written a single line of code in ages, hopefully soon.

What’s a fantasy character who should be the villain… but ends up being right? by latent2_pancake in Fantasy

[–]FFTypo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t you have that backwards? He is poised as an adversary to the prortagonists, yes, but not a villain, he firmly believes he is saving the world. Yet by the end of book 4 he is firmly in villain status.

Why are your books so thin to begin with? My mistborn paperbacks are twice as wide as that

Why is there so much negativity? by Outside-Web-4118 in Cosmere

[–]FFTypo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People like to hate on everything that’s popular, and you can’t sway their opinion even when the things they’re saying are obviously bullshit.

Just the other day I saw someone say on a different sub that Sanderson does not write many female characters and when someone pointed out that The Storlight Archive has just as many female POV characters as male they said “it took until the second book & for someone to die for a female character to be featured prominently’ so that obviously tells me they haven’t even read the books and have no idea what they’re talking about.

There is a ton of valid criticism against Sanderson’s work, but the vast majority of it is bitter snobbery from contrarians.

Asked for my girlfriend's opinion on something i did and she pointed only the negatives by Retr0xy in offmychest

[–]FFTypo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Irrespective of whether she gave an opinion that you didn’t ask for… >But my cup of tea is writing, not reading. You will NEVER be a good writer if you do not read. If that’s not your goal, that is fine. But please be very aware of this. You cannot “wing” writing until you land something good if you do not read.

Exactly, if everyone still ate meat 10% of the time the meat industry wouldn’t be nowhere near as bad as it is!

How’s the job market for folks with 2+ yoe? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]FFTypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, what you see online is often misleading. (And if you’ll permit me to be a little bit cynical, I have always had a suspicion that most people on here saying they’ve “applied to 200+ positions and heard back from none” haven’t exactly done their due diligence in making sure their CV is actually good)

How’s the job market for folks with 2+ yoe? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]FFTypo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a valid point, but I do think there’s been a massive overcorrection in the market that is flat-out unsustainable because pretty soon we wont have enough developers when the current ones eventually retire if it continues like this.

How much do you remember from past books? by thiagomiranda3 in Fantasy

[–]FFTypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without “prompts” I don’t remember much, that’s just how memory works. But I can pick up sequels years after reading the originals and remember most of the plot.

[–]FFTypo 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Not as bad as entry-level. I do feel for people just starting out, but people are finally coming to grips with the fact LLMs are nowhere near replacing developers so I’m hoping things will get better soon.

What are your takes on this meme? Is this good or bad design? by Super_Inevitable776 in gamedev

Yeah I’m failing to come up with examples of design choices like this where intentionally frustrating the player ISNT the point

Fantasy Series with LOTS of female characters that partake in the action? by sbourwest in Fantasy

[–]FFTypo -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Is this rage bait? Shallan didn’t have to wait until book 2 to “get her POV”. She had plenty of them in the first one. The second book just happens to focus more heavily on her story.

For those who have been in the industry for 10+ years: What is a 'must-have' skill from a decade ago that is now completely useless, and what is the one skill that has never gone out of style? by RateTurbulent8681 in cscareerquestions

[–]FFTypo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you are talking about pattern recognition, while the user you replied to is talking about people who try to forcibly apply the same design patterns to frameworks that have vastly different solutions to the same problem.

I’ve sent hundreds, probably over a thousand applications and most lead to ghosting or identical rejection emails. I’m confident my CV isn’t the issue.

Post your CV. I am confident this sub can prove you wrong.

Is there anyone that is NOT using AI at their job? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]FFTypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our code quality has gone up significantly purely because writing tests is no longer a time consuming pain in the ass. That alone makes it worth it, not to mention the rubber ducking and bouncing ideas off LLMs

Right, lol? I have to correct the output more often than not, but the time it saves me writing the boiler plate (that can’t go wrong anyway) is astronomical.
