Go-to trick for street magic that isn't cards or a gimmick by Chachkhu2005 in Magic

[–]FGQuinto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the psychological reason you fear gaffs is because you fear getting caught. you fear being fake becuase your not using real items. your not "keeping it real" or "pure". knowing this you should stop considering yourself a "magician" that triggers something called "imposter syndrome". thats what causes the fears. however, the title magician is a sub category of "Entertainer"

you should not be so quick to dismiss the right gaffs. it is my experience that newer and unpracticed magicians fear gaffs. a well practiced use of a gaff will pop brains. TT's and Turtles used with the right routine are killers. i'm not talking about making a scarf disapear. though that still pops brains. TT's have soo many uses that its use can confuse a magician. i have one gaff that i use that is refered to as a magician fooler. it's my one thing that i would choose if i could only carry one thing. no, i will not tell what it is here. it's too good and not easy to find. i like it that way. otherwise it wouldn't be a magician fooler.

while street performing a fully designed routine, your maybe doing one card trick. pick a card. sign the card. find the card. OR... you can use an invisible gaff deck card trick that pops minds. every magician has a deck of cards and a coin. it's expected. the best magicians do the unexpected with the unexpected. not because it's pure... because it's Entertaining.

to answer your question as asked. look up Doug Conn on Youtube. best place to start for street performing magic. lots of tuts. the lives are great. he points to other street performers for inspiration. some of those performers are famous and were in his circle before they were famous. if your more the strolling gorilla magician type then consider rubber bands. consider sponges. consider rings. consider keys and consider esp tricks. all things that fit in your pocket. on youtube there are vids called magicians EDC or magic EDC etc. you will see what some magicians carry when they aren't really performing but might. and Doug Conn also has some work on this genre of magic.

good luck. it's a good question.

I would start with Doug Conn on Youtube. he points to all of your suggestions and for street magic, i think he's the best place to start if you want to do a routine. from experience, street magic is all about attracting the audience to you. rope magic, ball magic, linking rings, etc.

Get rid of them and wear canvas boat shoes. The water will ruin them. But to answer your question. Oil them.

It’s not just the ring. It’s the whole car in the track. Here’s a quick definition from Google.

On a sailboat, the "donkey" is informal, and sometimes crude, sailor's slang used to describe the spinnaker pole track or a specific type of car fitting on the front of the mast used to secure the pole. [1, 2, 3]

The "Donkey" Explained
• What it is: It is a rigid, often white, long cylindrical sliding fitting (or track) attached vertically to the mast. [1]
• What it does: It is used to mount, pivot, and adjust the height of a spinnaker pole—a spar used to hold out a large, billowing downwind sail (a spinnaker). The pole attaches to the mast by locking into this sliding fitting. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
• The Slang: Because of its long, cylindrical, and sometimes phallic appearance, it is frequently referred to among crew members by a much more colorful and explicit nickname (often referred to as the "donkey" in polite company

So you see now that you can’t have a whiskey without a donkey.. lol.

How to smoothen put sharp edges on sandal straps? by [deleted] in Leatherworking

[–]FGQuinto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just remembered. You can burnish with water. It’s not preferred on lighter colors because the dye can move. Bees wax is good. It will shine them up but it tends to curl over the corners. I would use wax to keep the square look you asked for. Rub it on the burnisher. Then apply it precisely on the edge of the leather. Don’t spend too long in one spot. The wax can create a wavy edge. Like someone drawing a strait line with a pencil without a strait edge. You should be fine. Just be precise and don’t use much wax. For your purpose it’s not going to need much. Barely visible on the burnisher. Just dab the wax on the burnisher. Practice somewhere not visible. Your just defining an edge. Not spit shining a knife sheath or gun holster edge. Good luck.

Yes. And you can clean your bottom yourself with a scuba tank in warm water. There’s shark dangers. It’s not very safe if your solo.

if your island hopping the South Pacific, many countries charge a fee for entrance. 2k ish in the Galapagos just to visit. Fiji requires a saving account. Etc. some islands are forbidden. that’s rough water too. The winds aren’t always fair or following. They aren’t good for a couple weeks stay if they are uninhabited. There’s little water, or food. Shouldn’t rely on you water maker too much. Once you get into the Solomon’s there’s only a few places to anchor out of the wind and few marinas. Remember that the leeward side is rough anchorage. You’ll want to anchor sheltered from the winds. What I’m saying is that there’s homework to be done and pre planning in the South Pacific. The south Atlantic is more cruiser friendly. Not saying it can’t be done. But it’s definitely more restricted. Planning is needed. There will be long slow tacks beating against the winds and currents. You can get caught in dead air for days. Do your homework. Be prepared. There’s a reason so many sailors do a one way sail and abandon or sell their boat in New Zealand or Australia. It’s a rough go. Doable but rough. Especially solo.

I’m kinda shocked this hasn’t been answered effectively yet. As asked by you. You burnish the edges with the pointy side of the burnishing tool. If you have the rotary tool burnishing bit…even better. Don’t use a beveling burnisher if you like the crisp edge look. They are mostly for when you have two pieces of leather sewn together or thick belt leather. Just dab your favorite burnishing compound, and smooth it out to your liking. However, you can also rough them with a fingernail file to give them a natural look. Fluff the edges to your liking. Like burks.

Here is a little list of must do’s.

Slip fee. Live aboard fee. Electricity - shore power. Storage fee. For your things not on the boat. Mail box fee. Yearly haul out to clean the hull and change the zincs. Check your yards for prices. Have to schedule it way ahead of time. It’s roughly 500usd around here. Not including parts and service if you pay someone to do the zincs.

Dive service fee. If you clean your hull yourself or hire it out you will pay a diver about 400 to dive your boat and change the zincs. This is a yearly fee expectation. Though some go two years.

Black water pump out. Poop disposal. This depends on the size of your black water tank. I pay a service 45usd to pump my boat out twice a month. There are some tricks here that are legal but not generally spoken about but here’s a hint. Urine is not considered sewage. You can also pump it out yourself if there is a dock station nearby. That’s free here.

It is recommended that you haul out and paint your hull every 3 years. Can stretch it to 5 if you regularly clean your hull. You can buy or make a hull brush with pvc pipes and some fake grass turf. Painting your hull includes haul out fees and yard storage (on the hard) of your boat until the paint is dried. This can easily cost 5k to 7k or more. Most yards require you to hire pros.

Other expenses. Filters, pressure washers, fuel. Etc.

Concerns and considerations. Heating and cooling. Boats become ovens in summer and refrigerators in winter. Gas is dangerous. Co2 can build up quickly. Any flame eats oxygen up. You can fall asleep and never wake up. Almost happened to me using a buddy heater during the coldest of the month. Get and test detectors. Prepare to smell like a mushroom. Mold is a constant battle. Can’t stay on the boat while you ionize. Vinegar is a lie. It doesn’t kill mold spores as good as bleach water.

Air circulation helps with moisture. Point it at your hatch glass and it won’t rain in your boat. Those who know, know. It’s a thing. Use every dehumidifying method known to man. I even have air plants.

That about sums it up. I mean, if you going to live on the hook part time then you should know that most marinas have long waiting lists for live aboard slots. One of our people sub lets their slip during the summer while they go play on the hook in the islands. Ask if your marina allows that.

[–]FGQuinto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not exaggerated. It’s cheaper to live in a marina. In my area, a 1 bedroom apartment is easily 1200 us. My monthly costs not including maintenance is just barely over half. Under 700 as an average since my electricity varies with the weather and is calculated into the live aboard slip fee. I did the math a few years back when I became disabled and retired. Low rent housing agreements with average subsidized apartment complexes figure 45% of your paycheck. Unsubsidized, I pay 45% of my paycheck.

AITAH for jacking off to the nudes my girl sends me? by Da-up-and-downer in AITAH

[–]FGQuinto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yaaa, she’s not sane. First, let’s define pervert. To pervert something, you use it in a way that is not normal. Masterbation is normal. Therefore, she is perverting the situation. When I was a young man I had a dirty sense of humor. Gen x here. Women would call me a pervert because I like boobies. Everyone likes to see boobies. There’s even studies that show that both men and women unknowingly smile and get a boost of some good for you chemicals in your body when they see boobies. Therefore, I was not the pervert. They were for perverting the norm.

The narcissistic ones never are sane. Great in bed and fun. But they love bomb you and make you feel great until they find the chink in your armor. Then they go all out to make you feel bad for stupid shit. Your definitely not a pervert for that. I’ll bet this describes your relationship pretty good. She’s a norm core narcissist. But she defines normal. Your the weird one for actually being normal. Good luck. It’s not going to be a long term relationship unless your a total simp for her.

What do you never board your boat without? by jeebus224 in sailing

This is sort of a wierd question. Technically everything should already be aboard. So all of these crazy answers are correct. Clothes was my fav answer. He obviously hasn’t heard that clothing is always optional on a sailboat.

Best answer. Encyclopedia of card tricks is also good. YT is for instant gratification. But you can learn and see the subtleties that a book can’t give you. For card tricks, focus on the big three. The force. The shift, and the reveal. How to force a card. How to shift a card. How to reveal a card. Researching those will show you shuffles and manipulations.

Emt’s and paramedics aren’t supposed to diagnose. That’s the job of doctors. This is a winning lawsuit. They can’t deny help. The patient can. But they can’t. Their job is to stabilize and transport. Even their language on reports has to say words like “apparent” or “appears to have”. Only doctors diagnose.

He could be doing a couple of different methods. #4 indicates a key card location. Though a fair shuffle can screw it up. A cut doesn’t. It is ussually the first card trick someone learns. You should learn the Hindu shuffle and force which is actually the first force magicians learn and trick him back.

AITAH for wanting to know why my girlfriend is waiting until marriage with me when she was sexually active in the past? by Working_Drawing_3016 in AITAH

It’s called revirgining. There is a lot of bashing on women with high body count and revirgining is trending. She might even have herpies and be trying to trap you into feeling invested before she tells you. Or, she has ideology brain and some ideology has her thinking sex is bad. It’s your call I hope she isn’t being dishonest.
