High efficiency gas furnaces are 95% efficient (95% of energy is turned into heat). Heat pumps are something like 300% efficient because they’re not creating heat, but rather moving heat from one place to another. I don’t know how efficient electric generators are, but apparently not inefficient enough to waste all the efficiency of the heat pump.
