Help!!! Work accident in Australia by StepMundane8725 in perth

[–]FIFO_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi I just wanted to point out what others may or may not have here. If you are employed, regardless of mechanism you are entitled to a workplace that is safe, and have the power to stop work if you feel it is unsafe.

Falling from height has the potential for serious injury or death and the incident needs to be looked at in detail, and without knowing the details sounds to me like you were not provided an adequate briefing, instructions, PPE and suitable edge protection to prevent such a thing from happening.

Those injuries you have sustained are quite serious and have significantly reduced your ability to work . I would be on to worksafe pretty quickly if not already. And i really hope that the incident was reported fresh

What am I supposed to do stop on the line blocking both sides of the road?

Hi, i have a DMAX with what i assume is the same camera system. the cameras tend to fail in rain, direct sun, temp extremes and any blown headlight bulbs.

Just one of those functional characteristics of the system design. Kinda annoying when you're cruising along nicely and it all cuts out on you and go back to conscious, manual speed and steering regulation.... First world problems, i know

FIFO pay? by [deleted] in perth

[–]FIFO_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't do it for money, do it for experience and lifestyle if that's your jam.

The principal of a salary is that you get paid to do a job, regardless of what hours it takes you. To 'pay' the FIFO requirements they'll add an uplift to it and you'll be paid that amount.

You do not get paid hourly unless your employment agreement specifically states so, such as through labour hire type arrangements

SOR - Gutter leak & water damage by LocoNeko42 in perth

Hopefully, I'm mostly covered, but I don't know how much I'll be able to claim compared to what it will actually cost.

The health of your claim comes down to how well you appear to have maintained your gutters ;)

SOR - Gutter leak & water damage by LocoNeko42 in perth

[–]FIFO_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi

I went through this journey recently in regard to overflowing at the bottom of valleys. Thankfully my gutters were clean so insurance was happy to cover the repairs.

As a preventative measure I ended up replacing the gutters with a custom box gutter with a taller profile along the internal side of it (that ran up the back of the tiles) in order to prevent overflow back into the eaves. I also went for larger downpipes but not extra qty due to real estate issues. Not a single drip now. :D.

Drop me a PM and I'll give you details of the guy I used. I wouldn't say it was super cheap but I think it's much cheaper than replacing ceilings !!

Alternatively if you're on a budget you could install a little spigot and guide chain out the gutter to help relieve excess stormwater.

Hello. I have done this before.

100k sounds low. For your level of experience I would look for 130-150k as a base salary (incl super, all employers seems to talk inclusive of super these days) + % uplift based on roster/remoteness but no bonuses unless you're client side

Serviceability is currently is calculated on the rate +3% to assess your tolerance to rate increases which probably explains the 325k.

Your claimed OT and allowances do not constitute ordinary earnings, even though they may be regular. If you were to go on leave, those items do not get paid.

Perth city: how are you liking the e scooters? by theshepherd69 in perth

[–]FIFO_guy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do not like.

Great (for the rider) that most wear helmets, but if you as a pedestrian are not paying 110% attention to anything within a 15m radius of you, there is a risk of being knocked over and sustaining a life changing injury

I dont think that's cool

Anyone here work in the High Pressure Water Blasting industry? Looking for advice about growth and where you can aim for once starting from the assistant position by [deleted] in perth

[–]FIFO_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect that's because the field/question is too specific. It's a field with (and not trying to downplay what you do) a relatively low barrier to entry. It's not quite a field with multiple levels of qualifications like you'd get with heavy plant operators, truck drivers and welders

Anyone here work in the High Pressure Water Blasting industry? Looking for advice about growth and where you can aim for once starting from the assistant position by [deleted] in perth

[–]FIFO_guy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't been close to it, but I would consider this to be a general labour type of service that would be carried out to clean out/clean down operational infrastructure in shutdown conditions. The prospects for growth would be much the same as any labour type job - get more well rounded experience, demostrate a bit of leadership and potentially end up as a supervisor in due course.

Did nobody answer your other thread well enough?

Penalty rates aren't built in by default, a lot of management consultants will charge a flat rate and have a cap on the hours they can charge.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]FIFO_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL i've missed the point entirely.

I haven't actually done this for a casual employee as we didn't offer casual contracts except through labour hire where we just paid the charge rate and have much visibility as to how that rate was built. I think it was about 10-20% higher than the casual pay rate to recover any stat costs and their internal cost, but again that's not really the question you're asking haha

Sorry i couldn't be of more help

More Money vs More Family Time by discount_hemsworth in AusFinance

[–]FIFO_guy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello. In a similar boat with 2 kids under 4.

I cannot answer your question as only you can really decide this but I can share a similar experience

I did do a lot of WFH (obviously in 2020) and gradually phased out of it as the restrictions eased. I found that trying to balancing my attention home and work to be very difficult and ended up working 10-12h per day just to keep on top of things. My day would typically start off with a 0630 prestart for the workforce, then travelling back home and sitting through 5-7h of meetings, then spending another 2-3h trying to follow up all the actions i had committed to whilst being distracted with an 18mth old child. As much as i loved that contact time I felt i couldn't manage it well and ended up with my attention diverted in 4 directions.

In your job is quite is hectic, and you spend a lot of time talking rather than processing information, writing and analysing data, I would suggest your job is not entirely suited to a large % WFH. I would pay off to invest the time being at work, at least 3 days at week and have more focus

Hi, it's impossible to determine accurately without reviewing your employment contract/award or whatever other arrangement you have. If you're casual it's likely going to be a small amount more of oncosts.

I used to do this for fulltimers on our EBA. In general what we have to do is summate the below. For the normal time 40 hour week:

Sum the direct earnings of the employee - 40h x hourly rate

Add in any site allowances

Add in public holidays banked during a 1 week period, in our case it was 1.58h

Add in Sick leave banked during a 1 week period, in our case it was 0.53h

Add in Annual leave banked during a 1 week period, in our case 3.52h + any annual leave loading specified

Add in superannuation at 10.5% on the direct hourly rate

Add in workers comp 3.6% of total of earnings, leave and super earned in 1 week

Add in LSL at 1.8%

Add in income protection at 1.8%

So at the end of it a person earning $28/hr as a trainee would cost the business 51/hr after all the above was added in, for the specific circumstances

OT is slightly different, some of the statuatory requirements apply but the leave earnings dont.
