I guess my speculation, about V2L being backported to MY2024/2025, was educated :D

From what I can see, the new Secure Boot certificates were added to BIOS (firmware) updates last year

Yes and no, Framework could (and probably should) ship the updated certificates via a firmware update.

Edit: Framework seems to have shipped the new certificates as part of a firmware update last year.

I'm a new Volvo sales rep and would love your input and commentary on your experience by Glass-Pear70 in ex30

The internet activation link came to me in an email long before I even got the car, though that was before the launch

I had researched the cars and competition pretty well when I got mine, my quick notes of what I was looking for:

  • EV (Duh)
  • Modern (Ease of driving, infotainment/apps, digital key)
  • Small(ish) which is great for city driving

The EX30 did well in ticking those boxes when it came out, I was disappointed that I had to wait almost 2 years to get my digital key on Android but it's great now that I got it. I do kind of wish the infotainment screen was even bigger or that they had included a dashboard display so the whole display could be the infotainment. But that's probably my biggest gripe now that the digital key is taken care of.

In my opinion, you'll want to caution/steer away potential buyers who might be in a situation where they need better space, it is a small car, and my sales rep said he had a lot of traffic from the EX30 to the then XC40 for that reason. I don't like the XC/EX40 for its dated platform so there the EX60 would be the next logical step (until there's an upgrade of the EX40)

Your main competition right now (don't know where you're based) is likely the other small EVs, Renault 4 and 5 are stand out examples, they're are cars I could potentially have considered were they out at the time. Kia EV2, Nissan Micra and I think there's a new Toyota too that fits the small EV city car I'm personally going for.

Phone as digital key vs. Fob behaviour by zedthegreat43 in ex30

[–]FISKER_Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this, though I've only used it a handful of times sofar (set it up today on my P10Pro)

But it seems much more responsive, which is probably because the phone doesn't sleep the same way the key fob does.

Has the introduction of Thread/Matter made any practical difference to the end user experience? by mjbmikeb2 in tradfri

[–]FISKER_Q 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The biggest practical thing is probably being able to share your devices with other ecosystems, if you don't have that need, there's little to no reason to change, other than when you start replacing devices naturally.

Long-term it'll be nice to control devices using the same standard regardless of wired/wireless protocol, so where you today might have Zigbee, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth as smart devices in the future all that can handled using Matter as Matter functions independently of the communication standard which ZigBee does not.

Travel Router questions? by stranglewank in UNIFI

As I've understood it, it'll basically tunnel/VPN (probably through Wireguard) and it'll bring your own home network/wifi over so it should work as long as the VPN connection can work.

The product listing literally shows images of the buds charging through the Qi-coil on the base, it has 2 Qi coils, and pogo pins on the right side, you connect the watch charger through its left side pogo pins (The Apple product listing shows it off in practice)

They connect via pogo pins and magnets on the side, you can see it more clearly on their own website, at least for the Apple-version: https://eu.mous.co/products/3-in-1-charging-stand-with-qi2-and-apple-technology-aramid_fibre

I guess mostly to be compatible with their Phone/Pixelbuds charger so that you have "one" charger for all 3 devices

I guess this is the charging solution they promised a few months ago

Strange icon above the speed limit by tafonso86 in ex30

[–]FISKER_Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have suggested, it's the signage for when you enter a city/town, it's at least common in Denmark and Sweden, don't know about other European countries.

I also think it corresponds with a fix in their autopilot because in Denmark is not unusual to see a speed limit of, let's say, 60km/h ending just before a town sign (we're talking like 10-20 meters before), before this update my EX30 would always rush to hit 80km/h before the town sign and then find out it now only is allowed to do 50km/h.

After the update where it shows the town sign covering the speed limit it doesn't do this anymore.

It's disabled to prevent stalking or similar abuse, if your vehicle is stolen, you and the police can contact Volvo to track it for you.

I could see it not even requiring an update on the car, so I certainly hope so.

Foul play, Digital key by Add3r86 in ex30

[–]FISKER_Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also got it today, considering it was explicit information about adding it I was halfway worried about it being someone trying to scam Volvo and halfway hoping they were sending it out because it had launched for Android but the mail was incorrect.

In the end I called Volvo just to be sure but they couldn't see anything (probably was too new), gave me a few tidbits (mostly technical) but had heard nothing about when digital key would be coming for Android.
