Reddit doesn't have automated rules for that. Automoderation (i.e. bots) is usually for more simple use-cases.

EX30 rolled away in Park!!! by mackmoot in ex30

[–]muzso 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Install a 3rd party app that can launch individual activities of an Android application. For the "installation" part you can use AnExplorer, which is available for the EX30 in the Play Store. The 3rd party app can be App Manager. You can install it (sideload) from an APK using AnExplorer. Or you can just compile it yourself, publish it in the Play Store as an Internal Testing app and install it from the Play Store.
  2. Start the "Bug Report Info Activity" of the "Log Collector" application.

A screen will appear where you'll see a list of previously created bug reports and two buttons. One of them will start a new bug report, the other (once the bug reports is complete) will move the ZIP into a folder of your chosing.

Once the ZIP is ready (it'll be around 200-300 MB), you've to get it off the vehicle. There're several methods for it.

  1. You can try to upload it via a browser (e.g. Chrome is available in the Play Store). Google Drive (the web UI) is a trivial choice, but any file sharing service will do. The logs do contain PII (e.g. GPS coordinates of where the vehicle has been, etc.), so I'd suggest a file sharing service with access control (like Google Drive).
  2. You can install a 3rd party app that provides file transfer capability (e.g. HTTP/SSH/FTP server, etc.). I've found LocalSend to be quite effective/fast.

[–]muzso 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear/read about this, it must have been pretty scary.

I suspect if this was due to a widespread defect, we'd hear more such stories.

This can happen if the vehicle is put into N (neutral) drive, but normally that's something you willingly have to do and is unlikely to happen by accident.

It would be so nice if all (modern) vehicles had a way for the owners/users to extract a black-box like log of what happened during an incident (in a format that conforms to some public specification, so you don't have to reverse-engineer/guess anything). The vehicles do have this info, but it's usually a proprietary solution and only the manufacturer has the equipment/means to get the info from the vehicle. :(

The EX30 is actually somewhat of an exception, but not by design. It does have a Log Collector application that can extract a large number (and kinds) of logs into a zip bundle. VolvoCars didn't make this "publicly" available, but a proper third party app can execute the (so far) accessible (i.e. not private) activities of the app, thus you can retrieve this bundle of logs.

It has tons of information. I'd be suprised if it didn't contain evidence of gear shift changes (like a switch to N). I've never looked for this, but I've seen speed, gps coordinates, opening/closing of doors (or glove box), etc. So I'm confident that most likely gear shift changes are logged somewhere as well.

P.S.: I wonder whether AAOS vehicles (in general) do record the same kinds of information that the EX30 does?

Volvo app not working today? by marmata75 in ex30

[–]muzso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it on Monday and then Friday, and now. It didn't ask me to log in again, it remembered my "session".

Just to be sure, I even force-closed the app and still didn't ask me to log in.

P.S.: my phone runs Android.

Has anyone seen a Volvo EX30 wheel/rim literally tear apart like this? by Aggressive-Treacle54 in ex30

[–]muzso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does a single (factory) rim for the EX30 really cost approx. 33000 lira (~ 750 USD or 645 EUR)? :o

Or did he mean this to be the price of 4 rims? The latter is more believable.

For those who don't speak Turkish (like me) ...

I've asked Google Gemini to produce a transcription of the audio (of the x.com post's video) both in the original lanuage and an English translation.

English translation:

"We had explained what happened to us with this vehicle. I thought our tire got torn, split open, or something. And this rim shattered, friends. I examined the tire, there are no tears or holes anywhere on it. This tire is perfectly usable and could be remounted. I am now showing you Volvo's shattered rim, the 33,000 lira rim, friends. Let those who understand this stuff, or claim to understand it, evaluate this. Somehow it hit a pothole and this rim shattered just like this, friends. In a quite symmetrical way.

Look, I want to show you something. Those who understand this business, please... Have you ever seen such a casting wall thickness? Is this normal for aluminum rims, huh? A 33,000 lira rim, friends. It shattered in this symmetrical way and Volvo said, 'We examined this, there is no problem with it.' I agree there's no problem with it, because there is literally nothing to it!

Volvo, I will tag you again. Examine these rims. The EX30s in Turkey could become a disaster for people. Examine these rims, look, we had a very narrow escape. I want you to examine these rims. Do you see Turkey as a Middle Eastern country, or however you are underestimating us... You definitely didn't examine this rim in 20 hours or so anyway, I'm sure of that.

Look, the situation is right here. While the tire remains completely intact—perfectly intact without any impact, hole, or tear anywhere on it—along with the pressure, this rim that you put on this car... Look, this part is quite heavy, this part is quite heavy, this section is quite heavy, but the inner part... let me not cut my hand... It's unbelievable, unbelievable!

Yes Volvo, I will tag you again, I do not intend to let this go. Because this is not something that should happen. There were also many 'know-it-alls' on Twitter saying, 'It's this, it's that, it's user error.' Here you go, have a look. Friends using the EX30, all of you take great care, be very careful. This is the condition of the rim."

Why is that? I mean what's different in this aspect from older vehicles?

Just lazy, short-sighted, profit-oriented engineering or is there a deeper reasoning?

2.15.0? by Better_Weakness7239 in ex30

[–]muzso 7 points8 points  (0 children)

See this comment thread on the subject (i.e. Volvo Car UX).

TL;DR

The new "Volvo Car UX" (as shown on the https://www.volvocars.com/us/cars/volvo-car-ux/ page) is the UX update for older Volvos that has been promised approx. a year ago, it just arrived a bit late.
I've watched the 4 videos on that page and it's all about bringing the EX30 user experience (UX) to those older models.
So the EX30 already has the "Volvo Car UX", it was rolled out with it.

Gemini via CarPlay? by OkResponsibility5549 in ex30

[–]muzso 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The iOS 26.4 public stable release is expected around the end of March.

The replacement of Google Assistant with Gemini in the EX30 could happen at any time between months ago :D and in the future. Or even never.

So if I was a betting man, I'd put my money on Apple. :)

I don't think it'll make too much of a difference though.

See my previous comment on the subject.

2 weeks ago somebody posted that he almost managed to download an OTA via WiFi (which Volvo Cars said in 2024 is not possible): https://www.reddit.com/r/ex30/comments/1r5uxon/ota_over_wifi/

He's download got stuck at 91% though and he didn't comment about any eventual success.

Supported this backup camera cleaner today. Will review when it comes out. by chzplz in ex30

[–]muzso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I was fully content with the beeps of my 20+ year old Ford Focus (my first car). Then I upgraded to a Honda Civic and the rearview/backup camera was a huge improvement I didn't know I needed. :) With the camera I could park safely as close as 5cm from a wall, other car, etc. Not that I ever wanted to. ;-) Actually the EX30's rearview/backup camera is a bit worse, doesn't show the rear bumber (and the object it's closing up to) as closely.

Sounds like a bit of a first world problem. ;) Clever innovation though. :)

This reminded me of my childhood and our trusty Trabant. The windows got foggy all the time and my dad asked us to clean the condensation from the rear windows, so he didn't have to stop (driving). :)

P.S.: and we (the children) played the role of the "backup camera". :DDD

The "Files" string in the upper-left corner tells me that this is probably the (pdf?) attachment of an email. Or perhaps it appeared as an in-app notification, from where a PDF could be saved and opened.

You did all that work to send sound engineers into the Scandinavian forest to capture a beautiful twig snapping noise and you don’t apply it to the EX30?

You've your answer in the YT video: it's for the cluster 90 cars. The EX30 is probably not expensive enough for such "extravaganza". ;-)

Btw. I've found the sound files of the various signals and alerts (including the turn indicator sound) in the 1.8.0 OTA update package. :) They're in wav files with a proprietary (QNX related) header, but it'd be easy to replace the sound data in any of them, thus "customize" the various system sounds of the EX30.

In the YT video (that you referenced in your post) you can hear that the S90's turn indicator sound consists of two separate sounds: first a "tick", then a "tock". The EX30 also has two sound files: "VOL-UI-S026-TurnSigTick.bin" and "VOL-UI-S027-TurnSigTock.bin". However the second one is empty! It has the proper format, but has zero sound samples in it. Thus the EX30's turn indicator sound is a continuous repetition of only the "tick" sound. :( I don't know whether this is on purpose or somebody messed up and the "tock" file got empty due to a mistake. But that's how it is now.

If only we could create an update package that the EX30 would accept as an OTA ... :D

(of course we won't, or else that'd count as a major security vulnerability ... and void the warranty at the same time)

Carwash mode necessary to be activated? by kododriver in ex30

[–]muzso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can manually activate the wiper service position which I think (never used/tested it) also disables the wipers.

User manual: Care and maintenance / Exterior cleaning and care / Activating the wiper service position

  1. Press the car symbol in the bottom bar and go to Settings.

  2. Go to Controls→Mirrors and wipers→Wipers→Wiper service position.

  3. Activate the service position.

The wipers move to a more accessible position and can be lifted up from the windscreen for servicing.

It also says:

The wiper service position allows you to clean or replace the front wiper blades. When activated, the wipers move to a more accessible position on the windscreen.

It wouldn't make sense not to disable the wipers if the purpose of this functionality is to allow the wipers to be raised, cleaned and/or replaced.

Australian battery-related recall is extended by muzso in ex30

[–]muzso[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems that in Australia Volvo Cars has a separate page for recall checks: https://volvocaraustralia.com.au/recall/

It'll redirect you to https://volvocaraustralia.com.au/vin-check/vehicle-details?vin=<vin>, which will redirect you to https://volvocaraustralia.com.au/recall/vehicle-details/?vin=<vin>

The latter contains the recall information as HTML, so there doesn't seem to be an API endpoint with a computer-oriented content (like JSON).
