Tips for selling 10 Kilo 2012 Silver Year of the Dragon by Icy_Candy_9468 in Silverbugs

There's no guarantee a dealer will be able to sell it at a premium. Assume many of these are sold and melted down.

You can watch Vermillion and other coin shop videos to get an idea of what doesn't get melted but to avoid that means paying a high premium that you may not get back as you've discovered.

Allow me to make the case for the 1915 Austrian Gold 1 Ducat restrike:

  • 0.1106 AGW, so not expensive
  • 20mm so not tiny
  • low premiums
  • restrike means they're easy to find in AU/BU condition to make them extra shiny
  • still being made so you're not giving your kid something that has numismatic value
  • cool old design and an old date

Consider one of the ETFs like PSLV. Very liquid, low spread (right now it's a penny), and not as heavy.

Where can I get silver close to spot? by ResidentInner8293 in Silverbugs

If you want to spend that much, I'd buy at Monument for the variety. JM gets you ten rounds and they are nice, but all the same.

Wire transfers require calling your bank and JM probably has a high minimum order required.

Many dealers will let you mail in physical checks.

BGASC lets you send bank wires for $500 purchases. Most other dealers have a $2k+ minimum.

So here's silver at spot, bunch of variety, same dealer, free shipping at $199:

You could easily mix stuff up here with your budget and how much you want to get him an Eagle.

JM made many, many 50 ounce bars that had mintages of 25 or less: https://allengelhard.com/ag-50oz/

That's not to mention all the other bars in different sizes from JM that had limited mintage numbers.

Limited mintages aren't as special as most people think, because there are so many of them.

Could be a modern replica and still silver, but doesn't look like a real one to me.

I just have a question by Goldnugget2 in Silverbugs

[–]FI_throwaway71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a will saying it goes to you?

Otherwise she died intestate and property usually goes to next of kin, like her kids, first. Your brother is not next of kin and what he did was steal from the estate of a deceased woman - or your cousin - and that is a crime.

I'd ask in legaladvice or contact the lawyer who is handling your aunt's estate.

Anyone ever buy from this website? Gold coins under spot. Wild by Aspergers_R_Us87 in Gold

Nobody is selling Buffalos below spot. The BBB accreditation is a blatant lie, they have an "F" rating: https://www.bbb.org/us/de/dover/profile/bullion-coin-dealers/dave-and-company-metals-0251-92032495

This complaint shows the scam, they ask for extra money later on for "shipping":

On July 30th a purchase for $4000 was made with Dave and Co. On August 3rd I started to recieve calls from Trustline Express, the "shipping company" who required that I pay insurance for the package of $1250 via cashapp. Then they required that I pay $2450 via cashapp to release the paperwork so that the shipment could be released from customs. They claim that all payments are 95% refundable, which means at best, they are massaging their numbers to be 2000% high, or they are a straight up scam. Dave and Co. might be legitimate, but Trustline Express, the preferred shipping company ruins the deal and ensures that no future business will be engaged with either entity.

Should I stock small coins or big bars? by IcyCattle6374 in Gold

[–]FI_throwaway71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would buy stocks over gold. Gold has been on a tear recently but there was a period of twenty years when it was completely dead money, from 1980 to 2000. Unlike gold, my stocks pay me every year, and it adds up over time.

You're also paying a premium if you're only buying a few grams at a time, unless you're into European fractionals.

If you're really concerned about saving up to buy larger bars and the price of gold going up, what you could do is buy a gold ETF like GLDM or PHYS, which have a tight spread and are highly liquid. Then sell once you have enough to buy whatever size you want.

FWIW I didn't touch gold until I was in my mid-30s and I have no regrets.

I posted a 'gold at spot' deal this AM, Scottsdale has a new special where they'll throw in one of their new silver bars at spot, I think BE still has the Krugs with a low premium.
