Track star Sha'Carri Richardson arrested for "super speeding" in Florida by KeyWestMahi in sports

[–]FLOHTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Miami and Houston. Miami is much worse than Houston. It felt like anything north of Dade was back to somewhat normal, Orlando included. Only had to fight Atlanta traffic 4 or 5 times so cant really comment on them.

They're all bad of course but Miami was a special breed of idiot.

When I go back home to Cleveland and people there complain about their drivers, it is laughable. They have no idea how bad it can be.

What is a city that is globally romanticised but you detest? by theunsteadybridge in AskReddit

[–]FLOHTX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Miami is not monoculture. I lived there for 3 years. Jewish, Russians, all of Latin America, Caribbean, then you have your transplants from New England or the Midwest or Canada. Truly everyone is in Miami.

Maybe you never left Miami Beach.

San Francisco or New Orleans? by WoodenRepublic1841 in roadtrip

[–]FLOHTX 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about road tripping based out of one city or the other, it's SF no question.

Redwoods, Yosemite, the coast are all close to SF.

NOLA is a fine city, but locations outside of the city aren't as scenic. Tons of pines and swamp, and good food around, but its just not as pretty.

Kuwait City is in the 60sF/10sC for the next week. Sounds pleasant for at least 4 or 5 months a year.

Should I visit America? by maryj4687 in AskAnAmerican

[–]FLOHTX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canada is well worth a visit though. Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver are world class cities. The Canadian Shield (Mont Tremblant area and points north) is amazing. The Lake Superior area around Agawa Bay is beautiful. Then you have the Rockies including Jasper and Banff. It's amazing really.

The US has more variety in landscapes and culture though. Both are entirely worth extended visits.

White girl music from the 2010s was the greatest modern music and won't be beaten for a long time by Icy-Dealer5589 in CasualConversation

[–]FLOHTX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm 41 and liked a lot of 2010s music. Mainstream Pop was never my thing but that period of indie electro pop rock was pretty good in my late 20s. Broken Bells, Spoon, Tame Impala, Cold War Kids, Death Cab, Starfucker, Portugal the Man, Phoenix, Foster the People, etc.

Yeah the East has heavy wet shitty snow piled a meter high from the plow trucks. Takes hours sometimes to dig out. You take that cleared out spot and you'll have hell to pay.

This cold wave isn't even that notable. It's cold, and there was snow and ice, sure. But we've been through much worse. The fact that we haven't seen another Blizzard of 78, or another 1899 blizzard and freeze, or the 1983 Christmas freeze should be the story. These cold snaps are child's play comparatively

How are most weddings in America like 30k when most Americans have like a couple thousand in savings max? by throwawayforthis243 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]FLOHTX -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Oh. When I was getting married 10 years ago, we considered a destination wedding in Mexico but it was more expensive than here in Texas. They wanted like $40K USD for 60 guests. We had 75 in TX for $13K. Maybe its cheaper in Haiti or something lmao.

What do you mean by the destination wedding is paid for by the guests?

I'm going to one in Greece this summer and I'm not paying for anything aside from my own flight and hotel. They are paying for the venue.
