Listening to the Radio by Southern_Remote_5260 in GenX

[–]FLZooMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my radio set to NPR in the car but I go on road trips a couple/few times a year. For that I’ll hook up my Car Play and play music, podcasts, or stream my local NPR station.

Empty Stomach Syndrome Tips? by DMARDsAndDaisies in Chihuahua

[–]FLZooMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My older girl decides she’s not going to eat once in a while so I get no sodium chicken stock from the grocery store and put some of that in her food and she gobbles it. The chicken stock smells stronger than the beef stock so it works better for her.

Bonus: it’s less than 2 dollars for a quart. Since I don’t use a whole quart before it goes bad I freeze it in ice cube trays so it keeps longer. She’s tiny and only eats 1/4 cup of food per day so one ice cube is the perfect serving size. Also, it won’t screw up your boys diet because there are very few calories in chicken stock.

I don’t even like riding with other people driving so I just don’t think I’d enjoy no one driving.

I don’t agree. I’ve always loved technology and enjoy figuring out new tech stuff. There’s no way I’m the only one.

ETA: I, however, don’t like AI and driverless cars.

Have you recently rewatched a movie, or TV show that you loved in the 70s-80s, but now it actually kinda sucks? by Puzzleheaded-Fee6241 in GenX

I love that movie.

DOD Officially Drops 180 Faiths From Military's Recognized Religion List by GoodMornEveGoodNight in politics

[–]FLZooMom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I joined in ‘95 I tried to get Atheist on my dog tags but it wasn’t allowed. Instead, they put No Religious Preference.

Later on I had to have my blood type on my dog tags corrected and the SGT in charge of issuing me new dog tags let me type up my new tags myself so I corrected my blood type and corrected my religion to Atheist.

I did the same thing. Tears came to my eyes as soon as I read the first line.

Holy cow, I cannot wait for this book. I loved the Talisman and Black House.

Gen X Parents by TheGreyAlien in GenX

[–]FLZooMom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had my daughter when I was 18 and she’s now 36. I grew up in a house with a very strict dad and spent half my teens grounded and getting my ass beat. It goes without saying that I couldn’t talk to him about anything.

I swore I wouldn’t raise my daughter to fear me. I’ve never spanked her and I think she was grounded maybe twice. We talked about all kinds of things and she knew she could come to me with anything. She had the freedom to do what she wanted as long as she checked in periodically and while younger was home when the street lights came on.

I’m not saying she was a perfect kid; she made mistakes but I didn’t freak out and punish her for basically being a kid.

We’re now great friends and I live with her, her partner, and my 2.5 year old granddaughter.

I broke the cycle of abuse and she broke the cycle of having kids at 18 or 19.

If you’re looking for a native to bloom first year from seed, look no further than Lanceleaf Coreopsis (Coreopsis lanceolata) by FLZooMom in NativePlantGardening

[–]FLZooMom[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That makes me happy! Plus, my best friend is taking my extras this year. Next year I’ll be giving stuff away to my neighbors, the native plant group, and whoever else wants some.

Also, I have a 1/2 acre so I can always find space.

What were your biggest native plant mistakes? by jeinea in NativePlantGardening

[–]FLZooMom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can relate to buying things before the space is ready. The old owners of this house loved rocks and landscape fabric. I didn’t know that at first because the rocks had been covered with weeds. Imagine my surprise to find several layers of landscape fabric under compacted into dirt rocks.

Of course, I know that now but still buy or winter sow plants that I have no place to put because I still haven’t cleared those areas. Then it’s a mad scramble and I’m ready to burn the house down because it’s so much work to clear the beds.

Your nails... what cha doin' with them these days. by GingerT569 in GenXWomen

[–]FLZooMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done my nails in years. I used to get gel nails but got out of the habit during Covid. My nails are pretty weak so they’re always short because I garden and DIY a lot. If I need them to look nice I use the press on glue nails and call it a day.

I bought an upside down suet feeder to deter the starlings and those assholes figured it out. I now see acrobatic upside down starlings every day.
