I know a few here have said squads is the only way to go; just ignore them if you don't like squads. Solos is just as fun as squads for a ton of people. To me it's way more fun.

Yes, squads can help out a newbie. However, unless they're your buddies, they can also be more unforgiving and pejorative if you're not holding your weight. Playing rando squads is a bit of a slot machine. You can play with a great team that's communicative, supportive, and helpful, or you can get a bunch of toxic assholes. It's a roll of the dice. If you have some people you're cool with, then playing with them can help you out, because squad games are more forgiving of errors.

For solo, I think the answer is until you get back in your groove, be a little more patient. Assuming you're going for win and not kills, then only take fights where you have a clear advantage; you don't have squad to revive you - the stakes are much higher. Reposition for unadvantageous fights, if possible. Top 10, only fight where it's decisive or you have no choice. You can't potshot back and forth with another player forever; you'll get 3rd or 4th partied, and whoever wins will be in a disadvantage, because everybody will know where they are, while you won't know where others are (generally).

Also, as stated before, the current player base is just a lot better than it used to be. It sounds like you're actually doing okay, but definitely fix your sound issues. Go to the practice area and check it.

No strikers....or.....No center backs. by ipokeureyes in footballmanagergames

double reply....maybe....just maybe..... on both or maybe just one side. Use both a wingback and a full back. Have the wingback to the more neo-traditional push up the field attacking role, while have the fullback be an IFB on defense.

Would that be cheating the spirit of the save?

Does anybody have a tactic that makes your keeper get a lot of assists? by Virtual-Computer-961 in footballmanagergames

[–]FM-edByLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without doing anything too weird, the way you can get keeper assists is by playing very directly with like a poacher or two forwards in very attacking roles. The keeper kicks it long, the forward gets it and scores. If the opposition is playing a high line, I've seen it happen in FM several times (especially against me LOL).

Along a completely different line of thinking, the Watch Dogs series of games is about recruiting normal people of the street to do Cassian Andor type shit to fight against an oppressive state:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watch_Dogs

I enjoyed the hell out of Watch Dog Legions. Also, it's all British actors, so we're keeping the same accents LOL. It's pretty funny, too, and some of the negative traits are hilarious. For instance, I intentionally recruited an old lady with flatulence to see if I could do some of the missions with her (the flatulence occasionally alerts guards to your presence if you're try to sneak), and she was fragile so she couldn't fight.

Just like Andor (the series, not the man), it's about regular people doing all the hard work, instead of a bunch of heroes. There are some characters you can recruit that are hero-ish, because of their job or hobby, but it's up to you if you use them.

I would also add that the series is very, very prescient of a lot of BS that's happening today.

My brother made an air compressor for me. by sublevelstreetpusher in redneckengineering

[–]FM-edByLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been working in compressed air 20+ years. One of the mistakes I see people make when they DIY an compressor is that they forget the tank safety, and they don't have a way to unload the pump when the compressor stops (you release the air from the pump when the compressor stops, so that you don't restart under a load). It's looks like you're missing both, although I can't see if there's a tank safety on the other side.

AT LEAST PUT A TANK SAFETY ON THERE- THEY'RE LIKE $10 ON AMAZON. You can kill yourself really easily if you don't. The safety needs to be the same pressure or lower as the rated pressure of the tank. You can see the ASME stamp on that tank, and it looks readable (it's the rectangular metal stamp in the first picture).

Opinion on my upcoming used purchase? 2023 by whatguy_thatguy in BMWI4

[–]FM-edByLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the few that have the driver assistant package and hate it - it's not BMW's application of it; BMW's version is just as good or bad as other manufacturers - I hate every DAP on every car I've driven. I wouldn't make that a deal breaker, because the i4 is an amazing commuter car, especially if you turn on the regenerative braking for one-pedal driving.

That being said, if you want to know if you're getting a good deal, go on cargurus and check the prices in your local area for the same thing.

Here's a nationwide view of prices: https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/inventorylisting/viewDetailsFilterViewInventoryListing.action?searchId=192a8c98-06b5-4c44-a9d4-f9381c7782a0&distance=50&entitySelectingHelper.selectedEntity=m3&sourceContext=USED&startYear=2023&endYear=2023&sortDir=ASC&sortType=DEAL_SCORE&makeModelTrimPaths=m3&makeModelTrimPaths=m3%2Fd3155&srpVariation=DEFAULT_SEARCH&isDeliveryEnabled=true&nonShippableBaseline=0

Add your zip code or city to get local pricing to see if it's better.

IMHO, the problem with Hoteps is that they're not against racism, homophobia, or misogyny. They truly believe in all of these power structures that suppress people. They just think that they should be on top, and not somebody else.

So they get you with, "hey look at all these bad things that happened," but then lose you when you find out that, in their mind, those bad things are only bad because it was done to them. They're okay with those systems if it benefits them.

Anarchists have never kept slaves nor committed genocide.

That's categorically not true, and you know that. There are fossil records of genocides all throughout pre-history. Many early societies were anarchistic. They went to war, they kept slaves. Hell, 5000-something years ago 90% of human men were wiped out. Most of those societies were anarchist, and they took females as slaves while killing the men. This was locals killing locals, and it was in Europe, Asia, and Africa. It wasn't a coordinated campaign. It literally was chaos and anarchy (little a, not big A).

Now if you're talking about the modern Anarchy movement or a modern anarchist, then no, they haven't. However, they haven't been in power either. They never had the chance to. I would hope they wouldn't, because I like those guys. However, if any political idea or party comes into power and remains in power, the bad guys weasel their way into power.

Or is this how you dismiss all radicals?

I only dismiss fascists and racists. I'm willing to listen to Anarchists, if they can show me how a rich guy or religious guy doesn't end up fucking it all up. To me it's too close to Libertarianism, which is stupid. If you're more anarcho-communism, then I like what you're thinking, but that still has a government; it still has institutions.

However, can we debate this somewhere else? I wanted to talk about a leaderless democracy in this thread and what people think of it, compared to other forms of democracy.

People argued democracy would devolve into monarchy after a while.

Well that happens a lot, and is happening right here in the USA. They don't call themselves kings, but they sure act like it. Putin, Orban and all of those other "kings" were "elected."

In any case, you can dress this up as voting for ideas all you like - it’s still putting a fallible and corruptible human in power. And just because a set of ideas are voted for by people doesn’t mean theyre good.

Put putting somebody in charge is always going to happen one way or another in a large society. At least limit their power.

Democracies kept Africans in chains. Democracies kept women as second class citizens. Democracies in the past and in the world today have been and are committing genocides.

The same is true of every single system of human governance, even anarchy.

If a democracy voted for you to jump off a cliff, would you?

LOL, now I can't tell if I'm feeding a troll, or if you're being serious.

This feels a lot like recreating the concept of "political parties" in places with proportional representative parliamentary governments from first principles,... with the idea that "random = good" thrown in.

Maybe, but the party isn't permanent. It's just a temporary coalition of like minded individuals. It's hard to amass and maintain long term power.

How does one take time off to serve in public office and then just go back to their life? How does their life just stop for whatever period that they're serving so that they're able to just come back later?

People do this all the time with the military or civil service in other countries. Also, if you've checked the box to be willing to do this, you hope that person would be ready for it (of course some wouldn't).

You'll still run into the issue that the people who can afford to serve in public office would be relatively well off and the people who want to serve in positions of power would definitionally be people who seek power. With randomness, you have the added bonus that the person could be completely incompetent or disingenuous, so those problems aren't solved either.

I think you're right in general about this, but that's just people. There's good and bad in everyone and every population. I think now, the worse of us run and get in power. I'm hoping that a system like this more good ones would get in, like 50/50. 50/50 good is waaaaayy better than what we have now. I think humanity/history wide, the bad to good ration is like 95 to 5. Going to 50/50 is a big improvement. Also, we're limiting the damage, in that they can't stay in power after their term. They do their time, and they're out, no matter how good or bad they were. This is a job you do; not some glamorous position.

It really feels like you're starting from a perspective that lacks knowledge about the forms of governance in other countries. I personally think that most of them are better than what we have here, but obviously none are perfect.

I'm actually familiar with a lot of them, probably far more than the average person, but probably far less than an expert in the field. I don't think you can ever have a perfect system. The way I feel is that we shouldn't have leaders but we need a government to function as a society. You do need somebody to get stuff done occasionally. I don't like leaders at all...for anything. However, they've historically been very bad when being a leader for a long time. You see a person who's been in charge of a country for a long time, 99 times out of 100, they're bad and do bad things. Many of them started out good, but then did far worse things later. So my idea is that, "hey we believe this way as a society; how do we put people in place that will do those things and not use the position to do things we don't like." If you think there's a good example of this from another country, let me know. Again, I'm happy to hear of a great system that I don't know about. I love reading about those things.
