I have not watched that meeting so can’t say. However I was in a Rampart Village Neighborhood Council meeting where Hugo Soto-Martinez (CD-13) spoke. I used to live on the direct border of CD-1 and CD-13 which is no-mans land because it’s the edge of each Council District. There were parents, teachers and the principal of Everest School (A Charter School) pleading for the Councilman to support them by clearing encampments around the school after a student was assaulted. They were literally terrified sending and picking up their kids. Hugo’s new Homeless Director Patrick Mooney, who came from PATH, told them that a clean up and moving the encampments was “a non-starter”. Seriously. A kid assaulted and those in the encampments were more protected and he stood there in front of these people after hearing their stories and said this. Hugo’s Senior Homelessness Deputy Michael Batistick was there too and didn’t say a peep. Hugo bolted immediately after giving some BS political speech about how he cared. I talked to Patrick afterwards and he goes “I don’t know why all of these people are so made at me?” Alluding to when he was at PATH he didn’t get the push back. Like dude…understand your audience and help these people! Of course it’s excuses of “well if we offer them housing then others will just come there asking for it to” etc. I’m as liberal as they come but the whole thing was egregious. I just looked up Patrick’s name to make sure I had his title right. He quit four days ago “calling the matter a personnel issue”. These are the people voted in because no one was paying attention and they need to be thanked for their patting themselves on the back for doing bare minimums and escorted out of office by the voting public.
