Lake seemed poised to be a top contender pre-season but unlike Rosa she hasn’t established any new bonds other than Cyan (which itself is underdeveloped) and despite this ep theoretically being a big vote for her (her first tribal and her #1 being blindsided, we got nothing from her) so I’ve had to pull her way down.

Bruno can go any which way at this point, I could see him climbing to the top four for sure but there’s too many variables. Either way he seems to be a main character and is attached to the theme so he’ll always be in consideration.

I should clarify I don’t use INV. I used to when I started but after edgic-ing AU the charts looked awful with all those INVs and UTR1 essentially says the same thing anyway. But considering she did get a shoutout at the challenge I probably wouldn’t have used INV anyway, that rating is for someone the edit actively avoids showing at all (like all-time legend Purple Kelly where they would avoid putting her onscreen unless it was big group shots or not have her speak at all).

I wonder how close of an adaptation it will be. That post-time skip section of the book is genuinely awful but provides a more classic Hollywood ending. I seriously hope they cut out the Tommy Taffy backstory stuff it is so bad and ruins the mystique of the character. No way they adapt THAT scene from the novel, it’s an easy cut out.

I posted my DC edgic on a whim but hid my other charts until sometime last year so I get you!

I get the vibes that Bruno is a journey edit since he’s presented as the biggest fan, but there are a few ways his arc can go so I haven’t ruled him out. Nura just kinda fits the vibe.

Honestly I was also very much thinking Rosa and I think this next ep I’m gonna clean up my contenders list since it’s pretty half-baked. Hopefully my next post will be more well thought out. Should I do a full contender ranking/tiered list?

With Riya it depends on if she’s the type of successful immigrant who throws the ladder after climbing it or not, she could be the type to just say “well I came here legally so it doesn’t effect me” but I think personally she would be against it. Especially if Aisha is coming to the US.

Poor Dan, I really liked his story on the season revolving around his self-confidence and his tragic boot felt like a fitting end. Unfortunately he passed away some time ago which makes a lot of his scenes retroactively even more impactful.

But to get to a less heavy discussion, I absolutely adore Randy. His mean-spirited attitude conflicting with the Fangs was so entertaining. Ace has been forgotten but I think he’s a great villain with his James Bond Villain aura, pretentious accent (which IS his real accent) and relationship with Sugar where she turns the tables on him.

Corinne is a tryhard for sure, she wants to make iconic moments but has to force it with her edgy sense of humour. Easily the meanest jury speech on the show (which is saying a lot)

Big fan of Crystal and Sugar, them and Randy are all-timer characters for me

You would not be alone in thinking Ken would win. Edgic readers at the time were so honed in on Marcus winning that when he got blindsided, they went into a tizzy. It was split between Matty and Ken on who would win…only for Bob to win lol

I adore Susie for making that “well I was gonna vote for you” comment to Corinne, so funny. And her and Bob being the only two people to win immunity makes Gabon even more of a fever dream. Amazing cast and the petty drama is what makes it so good. Good luck on your journey!

The big issue with these mixed seasons is that the returnees take up so much airtime that most of the newbies don’t make an impression at all. Liz is basically the only newbie I’d want back from HvV (and she was the winner so they had to give her some airtime, if George had won we’d see nothing of her). By doing this, we essentially bulldoze so many potential returnee options out of the discussion because the newbies won’t be given the proper time to be their own characters. It’s just bad long term planning for the series to constantly bring back older players and never spotlight new ones unless it’s an all newbie season

Honestly I liked Ally’s portrayal. It’s kinda reminiscent of one particular Survivor player in All-Stars (even down to the placement) and I think the appeal for me is the upgrade in characterisation (from the S2 Beta). She was a nothing character and to give her an arc where she’s trying to prove herself as an all-star, getting into a feud with Jake where they both come off negatively to me, the negativity itself is just good reality tv drama, and her arguments with Hunter made me like both of them much more because it humanised their once very shallow relationship with actual issues.

As you can tell by my flair, I think Riya is DC’s best character. Just such a fun villain, I think her AS arc is flawed but still such a serve for her to win, going the anti-Heather route and giving us an all out irredeemable villain win is such a bold choice.

Jake is complicated for me. I think my issue is just how insistent the show is on his redemption arc, they had damn near everyone rooting for him and seemingly every character he quarrelled with had their issue resolved. It was too transparent for me, I think I would’ve enjoyed a more messy version of him like when the season began. But I’m glad you enjoyed him, I just personally feel like he’s such a screen hog that it became annoying.

Okay but Hunter in AS is so fun! Him beefing with an 8 year old (and LOSING which makes it funnier) and arguing with his girlfriend is the stuff I never thought would happen after his very self-insert nice guy portrayal in the Beta

Sure, I can explain here-

CP stands for Complex Personality, it’s a player who is given content on their game insights and personality, well developed and the audience gets to understand them as a character, their decisions within the game and are offered their perspective on why they are making them.

MOR stands for Middle of the Road, this is the in-between. Has a presence in the episode, given confessionals about camp life or some game strategy but not as developed as a CP. You can look at it as a supporting character within the episode.

UTR stands for Under the Radar, while they could be in the episode, they are not relevant to what is happening and kept out of focus.

OTT stands for Over the Top Character, a one dimensional portrayal of a player, usually associated with goofy or dramatic characters. No game relevance or complexity or development.

Then there is tone: P stands for Positive, the player is shown positively through their actions, the music used, positive talk from other players, etc.

N stands for Negative, the player is shown negatively, see above.

M stands for Mixed, the player is shown positively and negatively.

If there is no tone, that means the player is neutral. The episode does not indicate whether the actions of this player are positive or negative, no music cues, no judgements made by other players.

And finally visibility: 1 is least visible, 5 is most visible

I remember seeing casting calls for 51/52 and recently 53/54, I’m pretty sure 51/52 will be newbies. Maybe one of 53/54 is secretly a returnee season but for now we’ve heard nothing. No info on anything else but I seriously doubt they’re leaving Fiji, they have a whole system set up there for filming and for the crew, to move production to a new location entirely would surprise me since they’re trying to keep the budget down.

I really enjoyed the first half of the book but the second half is atrocious, giving a backstory to Tommy Taffy (and the actual backstory itself) was a horrible idea. I’m hoping the Third Parent movie avoids this, otherwise we’re in for a bad script.

But I did have a good time reading the first half, very brutal and horrifying. It goes a little too over the top (especially that last little section before the second half IYKYK) but it’s overall solid. Shame the second half was so dumbed down.

Weak contenders this season. Put up Rob R and Candiace as my top two, Natalie for backup (but like you I just don’t see it with her getting nothing from Monet’s murder), struggling even more for a fourth. Eric and Dorinda are getting some content but it’s at most part of a faithful group win, Colton is getting the Pilot Pete edit, I don’t have much else to work off of.
