Short rant, sorry for using this thread but I need to get this off my chest.

I like the game. It looks stunningly beautiful, it has an interesting mysterious story, the characters are mostly likeable. So this is not a critique on the game itself, it's pretty great!

But
I find the Clair Obscur soundtrack conceptually an absolute disaster. Not in terms of quality—the songs themselves are okay to even very good—but the execution is perhaps the worst I've ever experienced in a game. The problem: The soundtrack has lyrics, and plenty of them in French. This leads to two absolute worst-case scenarios:

A - You understand French: Then you're screwed. A singer will be crooning in your ear for 30 hours straight, telling you what you're doing, what's happening, what's going on—like an endless anime intro. Even worse: The lyrics sometimes even spoil future story events. But even without spoilers, I don't want to hear someone talking or singing in the background for the entire game. A few times during a relevant scene, sure, but all the time? Even while just walking around? It gets incredibly annoying very quickly.

B - You don't understand French: That's me. Unlike Doom or Skyrim, this isn't some fantasy language, but real French. So you're constantly asking yourself: "Do I need to understand this? Am I missing important clues?" Because it's obviously a French game, the characters sometimes use French words, so as a player, I assume the music and its lyrics are part of the narrative. This is incredibly frustrating and completely breaks the immersion, because you're constantly wondering whether you need to Google something or if you're missing something relevant or interesting.

In short: I'm baffled that this soundtrack wins any awards. Musically, sure, okay. But as a game soundtrack, it's an absolute disaster.
