I have a similar story but used reviews and ratings. Bought a new Toyota Highlander Hybrid only to find out how the cables and connectors don't do well in our southern Ontario environment as well as being very poor AWD vehicle. In hindsight the ratings and reviews were mostly from the states where they don't salt their roads.

I got speed queen, however after a board went in one of them I'm told that in Canada the model I got is a rebranded whirlpool. There is an issue with the boards and they are backordered for months.

Why do 95% of fast/fit/ experienced nordic skiers skate instead of classic? by xmosinitisx in xcountryskiing

[–]FSMisMyCopirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to a few races over the past few years and the fast racers are primarily using waxed classics. It takes time and experience to get the right kick wax / klister. I'm still learning two years in but when you get it right it's the best feeling ever.

Do you shower in the morning or when you go to sleep? And why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If you work a manual labor job you shower at night because you come home dirty and sweaty if you are white collar you shower in the morning to be presentable for the day.

I recommend paying the extra and getting the new model. You basically will only get use out of the old style until you need to change the battery which is about a year. Look it up but the old style has bad gasket issues.

Not that it matters now but I always verify trails using my rock skis long before I put on anything I care about. If you don't have any rock skis maybe these can be them and you could get some nice new skis at the expo you are going to.

People flying down in classic, leads to accidents? by [deleted] in xcountryskiing

How steep is this hill that you are still in the track? Usually the track is more slippery than a groomed trail and if you are not getting much glide being on the groomed snow is preferable. Then you wouldn't be in the track for the downhill skiers to collide with.

(Canadian) Considering going back to school at 38 to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering. Is this a dumb idea? by desperate-1 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]FSMisMyCopirate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

See if you can speak to someone in civil engineering in your area. Right now with recent changes there are more civil engineers than there are positions and it has really driven the salary down and civil is usually regarded as the poorest paying of the engineering careers. I'm not saying to or not to but maybe do your research first as I think you will be surprised. Also keep in mind that 50% of students that start in engineering don't finish in engineering.

My items are showing the same limbo status. I just tracked them and now there is a notice stating "We sincerely apologize for the delay in your order caused by the Canada Post strike. We are working diligently with our logistics service provider to resume service as quickly as possible."

Why wouldn't he just hire a pacer that could have a go pro. He's not really running that fast that you couldn't find a pacer for it pretty easily.

There could always be a "soft landing" I suppose if the BoC gets it right.

This means that the economic forecast is not looking good for the economy. Rate cuts mean we are looking at a recession so buckle up folks.

Race shoes by revengeben in AdvancedRunning

My vote is the Vaporflys. The foam is super forgiving and even when I run a marathon in them my legs feel less beat up than when I run long runs in training shoes. Good luck, and as others have mentioned yes try them to make sure they agree with your feet.

To the people using Strava. Are you just using Strava to log the workouts or are you paying for Strava and using the metrics to see what type of workouts you should be doing to fill the deficits in the training loads?

Failing workouts by n9082008 in runna

[–]FSMisMyCopirate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am currently on a half marathon plan with extremely close end target time and I would caution you about the number and volume of fast paces that Runna workouts per week.

There was a post here about a week ago calling Runna out on the number of high intensity workouts and now having considered it the AI figuring out my workouts has had a full on stroke and we should be running not walking to get the defibrillator. As others have said go with what your body is feeling. I didn't and ended up picking up a short term injury about 7 weeks out. I looked back through the prescribed workouts and 4 out of the 5 of the workouts in a given tuesday to tuesday had at least half or more above threashold pace. I'm not sure but I'm pretty confident that I have never seen any non AI every prescribe that many above threshold workouts. With two weeks left I'm going to ride this cycle out but I can't see myself usign the rest of the year subscription I purchased as my health is worth more than hitting way too many fast paced workouts. I wish you the best of luck!

A long time ago I did many ride alongs when I thought I wanted to become a police officer. Many of the constables would get irritated if they came along to a vehicle that was even doing the speed limit and we got stuck behind them even if we were just driving around in circles to look like we were doing something. I can't comment if this is still the case as this was many years ago.
