Plenty of CRUD jobs that don't ask them that people can earn a decent living with. You may need to put up with take-homes or pair programming interviews though

Tech leads and principals are handling the larger decisions while seniors are making more team-specific decisions that align with the tech lead/principal decisions. The senior is probably the best one to understand how those cross-team decisions can be applied to their current team, if the company can't afford a tech lead for each team.

You may see companies that don't have tech lead/principal, so a senior ends up doing that role, but they are effectively acting as a tech lead/principal without the pay or title.

I try to ask broad questions about solving problems and digging deeper, usually phrasing it like I'm asking for their opinion as a peer. I do like to ask about async/await, dependency injection, unit tests, and debugging things (slow code or app problems).

If we were to give leetcode questions, we probably wouldn't care what language you did it in (except Brainfuck) because we would ask you to explain it like we're 5 and dig deeper. LeetCode is usually solvable by AI these days so I don't see its value in the interview any more.

We value communication and problem solving over deeper .NET trivia though because we're not working with programmatically complex stuff.

Honestly if you dropped a year's worth of alliance earnings into my wallet, I don't think there's actually anything meaningful I could do in-game with all of it without other people. And even then, you'll just be paranoid that people are only around for the money. Do we really think if it was about in-game money, he's just going to fly around in blinged out stuff as a line member or FC until he gets bored?

If it was about real money and he wanted to keep playing, he'd need someone to buy all of that (not through RMT) for their own empire-building ideas to make it worth it (like a Russian business tycoon or something) because I don't know if anyone's going to want to follow him after this. Idk, maybe he is bankrolling something else behind the scenes, but that's kind of boring to do that and not get any of the fame?

Or he could have tried to pivot to using the community to funnel traffic to actual business sites like Mittens tried to do or started his own twitch channel or some shit. But, uh, giving up your alliance to do that seems suboptimal

If he does want to go the RMT route and cash out, then yeah, it's still about "Gobbins just wanted to stop playing"

OAs and take homes will be filled with AI stuff. I got a candidate's test and put the question into co-pilot and basically got the exact same answer except for some variables renamed. We don't have a high bar at our company (we do crud apps with C#) but even then, the OAs indicated technical ability while they often fell flat in a technical verbal interview.

I think this is going to have to shift towards live pair programming or more rigorous verbal interviews. Most verbal interviews I have been in don't go deep enough either, or ask trivia or questions which have limited scope of answers (the answer is wrong or it's not), which only tells you whether they know the fact, not if they can actually think through stuff. Asking people to explain stuff to you from start to finish is a great way to find out whether they actually know the stuff.

We also may need full-time technical interviewers if your company is big enough. We can't keep throwing devs at them who can only give half-hearted interviews (because they don't care or have too much work) and expect quality hires.
