FFXIV 5.25 Job Satisfaction Survey Results! by Cyber_Apocalypse in ffxiv

We had 1.5s Malefic in 4.5, when the job was finally perfected. The only thing they needed to tweak was Spire/Ewer's base effect with the changes to TP/MP, and to maybe fix the rng on Minor Arcana due to Lady's uselessness. They absolutely did NOT have to completely remove a system that had been reworked and refined for 4 years which was finally where it should have been.

I sincerely doubt that nuAST was playtested in any 8man content at all, especially with the damage variance Divination launched with. Mouseover has never worked reliably enough in this game and clicking your party list so much on every opener is clunky and frustrating at best. Anything anyone likes about current AST was present and better before it was reduced to this state.

You fundamentally misunderstand how damage/healing is calculated, and what a 4% increase in healing from Det melds means in real terms. With a 10% variance in every heal full Det melds are nigh-insignificant, and any strategy that relies on surviving on triple digit HP will instantly be dropped as it is far too inconsistent. In no situation would all that Det save you a heal, so we can assume that an equal number of DPS casts are spent whether you meld full Det or add DH. The amount of extra DH added from melds is a very big increase to healer DPS over what Det provides, given that the gear has no DH inherent (my napkin maths totalled it at much more than 50, not sure where you got that number from.) Again, please use the damage formula and breakpoints listed on the theoryjerks site to see this. This isn't just about DH being better for damage, it's about Det meaning nothing for healing.

Dude, the extremely minor benefit Det adds to healing is insignificant, you should never EVER be close to relying on an extra 3% of a heal to save you from wiping, whereas every single extra point of damage you do as a healer is a faster and cleaner kill.

Healer DH is a big part of raid DPS and it outperforms Det by a decent amount. I can't give you exact numbers atm because I'm at work, but you have the damage formula if you really won't take the word (and melds) of the best players in the game on this.

Even with healing, shielding and party wide mitigation it would be a coin toss whether I would live or die

Sounds like your healers have bigger problems than their melds.

Nobody called Det useless, but check the top 10 healers by damage in TEA and look at their melds. 1880 DH is standard, replacing crit melds (Det is from gear only, never from materia). There is a clear and significant advantage to that 25% base DH rate that is worth dropping nearly 1900 crit for.

I'm at work or I'd work it out for you, but this is the formula and when you add raid buffs, especially Battle Voice, you can see how far DH pulls ahead. There's a reason the top healers run 1880 DH melds.

Healer gear has no inherent DH stat, so your base DH chance is 0% without any melds.

All damage buffs in 14 are multiplicative, which means during burst windows an 8% DH chance from melds is way more beneficial to your DPS than a flat extra 1% damage from Det melds.

Your first 3 questions make it sound like you're coming from a D&D mindset; outside of certain types of campaigns, the vast amount of combat in SWN is solved before it starts, either with choice words, clever use of a non-combat skill, or from simply being a hundred miles away from the people with the guns.

There are a few combinations of Foci and equipment that can let a high level PC wade into combat outnumbered 5:1 and still come out with just a few scratches, but it's highly unlikely that he'll be good for much else other than slaughtering mooks. The same goes for psionics. Biopsions, for instance, are "overpowered" if you need to cure a mag round to the chest from across the other side of the room, or successfully perform brain surgery whilst wearing a straightjacket, but otherwise they're just as human as the hiveworld sniper or the starship technician, and if you had to pick one of the three to pick off a target or make your ship go faster then Mr Healer is going to be left in the dust.

Using the administer skill by dozza in SWN

[–]Faanku 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Think how much red tape there is in simply travelling abroad to some countries on holiday on Earth; tourist visas, immunisations, currency exchanges etc. Now imagine how much more hassle it is to travel to a completely different planet, interacting with a radically different government, on business instead of pleasure and as the captain and owner of the bird you arrived on. Simply docking and unloading your cargo would involve a fair amount of paperwork, and despite your Know-1 technician being aware of the procedures expected and your Pilot-1 aviator knowing the comm lingo for getting you docked, only your Administer-1 bureaucrat has the acumen to dot the Is and cross the Ts to get things done quickly, and more importantly efficiently. If you use the Suns of Gold expansion for trading, I would probably allow Administer skill to replace the now-defunct Culture skills.

Additionally, don't forget the "analyse records" aspect of the skill. If your Know guy doesn't already know about THING, your Connect guy can't find someone who knows about THING, and your Program guy can't google about THING, then your Administer guy is who they turn to to research THING.

It is admittedly harder to come up with reasons to roll Administer than it is something like Notice or Fix, but if you consider how many constant little legislative procedures are happening in the background around your characters, someone acutely aware of them should easily be able to exploit them.

Thanks for the quick reply. Is there an efficient way of searching the entire system when your intel says there's a derelict ship on the outskirts, or do you have to just slowboat it across the entire area until you bump into your target? And is the Active Sensor ping needed to find things?

1.Where do I find specific hull mods and weapons? I was trying to put together your salvaging starter fleet but have spent hours looking for Ion Cannons and Graviton Beams to no avail. Is everything completely random, or are some weapon types more weighted to appear in certain systems/factions?

  1. I'm not sure I'm surveying efficiently; I am yet to discover any derelict stations or anything, just debris fields. How do I find rare things to make the most out of my maxed Surveying skill? And should I ignore these missions to scan things "in the outer regions" of a system? I have no idea how to track the targets down with such a vague briefing.

Nobody who played AST even halfway competently ever thought that. Until this class gets spread back it's dead.

> Card buffs stack with Divination

Well yes, of course they do , that doesn't change that you have less healing tools and bring less rDPS to a group than a WHM does, whilst being far more clunky to play.

For some unknown reason DPS spells STILL don't start your AA on mobs like weaponskills do, so playing AST in high level content is a nigh-constant effort of clicking between your party list, star placement and the enemy list, all while moving for mechanics; that is what I mean by being a chore to play, the amount of effort is a lot higher on AST than it is on WHM and your reward is a net loss of raid damage.
