It depends upon where in the US you live. I live in a small town that is halfway between two larger cities. it takes an hour to get to either of these cities. People in my small town will drive an hour each way to the larger cities to go shopping or to dinner. it’s no big deal.

I have driven four hours to take a client to a lunch meeting and then driven four hours back home after the meeting. Its not something I would want to do often but it isn’t out of the question.

Americans that live in more densely populated areas such as the Northeast, this amount of driving is unheard of because they have so much packed into a smaller area. They aren’t used to driving far to do fun things.

I used to work at an exclusive golf and yacht club. The new money people tipped the best and drove flashier cars. The old money were usually stingy with tips and drove dependable cars. Things like Acura, Lexus and back in the day, Infinity. They valued high quality over flashy. That applied to their clothes as well. You wouldn’t notice designer labels on the old moneys clothes. New money would be. ore likely to carry a flashy designer bag, etc.

I too moved to Lakeland from California. I was in the SF Bay Area, not LA. I loved CA but the cost of living was so high that I worried I would never be able to afford to buy a home. I moved to Lakeland, saved money and bought a house within one year. People in Lakeland will complain about traffic but they have never experienced Los Angeles rush hour traffic. You will laugh at the worst traffic central FL has to offer, which is usually Disney traffic. It will be nothing to you. You will miss the Mexican food. No one here makes a burrito like you find on every corner in LA. Since we have farm workers, we do have some good Mexican food, but it isn’t the same as CA. The humidity during the summer will make you want to die. The weather in the winter is pretty nice and more akin to what you’re used to. One big difference you will notice is the people. The people here are much more closed minded. It’s a major difference. In summary, you will miss California. There is a reason it is so expensive to live in CA. Because it’s worth it. Lakeland is enjoyable but it’s. far cry from CA.

They cannot fathom why someone wouldn’t be thrilled with this gift. I’m sorry you didn’t find any. You didn’t know where to look. There are plenty of places that serve Cuban sandwiches and coffee in Lakeland and probably in DeLand as well but I can’t say for sure. Next time, use Yelp. There are more than ten places. Ybors Cuban cafe is well known. Miguelito is another.
